>>97158712My favorite "characters tropes" is the one that lets me play the game for the entire session, without having to hear anyone put on voices, or read off their pre-planned script, or help someone write a novel they're never going to publish.
The fallen hero that thinks he's given up hope for the good in people, but is secretly holding out for someone to prove him wrong
>>97158966That's just me irl.
>>97158712The gay couple put in to spite conservatives
>>97158996Riveting.
>>97158996OP?
>>97159190>couple
>>97158712Retired hero reluctantly gets back into the game, fearing that he can't live up to the tales of his old escapades. Especially if he's now out of shape or a recovering alcoholic
>>97158712Anyone who is or was running from something getting dragged back into it because, despite the degree to which they would protest, they're needed.
>>97158712God I hate these cringey tumblr "le heckin troperino" pics.
>>97158947You've never experienced any of this because you're a shitposting nogames faggot who looks for excuses to seethe about "storyshitters"
>>97161811NTA bit storyshitters are the worst
>>97159928OP is a lonely faggot after all.
Hitler was noble, but only ended up being cast as a 'villain' of the story because he could not win. Vae victis.
>>97158712clueless succubus

>>97162394anon, 2004 was over twenty years ago, get new content.
>>97161874>gets mogged by narrativistslol
>>97161874Sandbox games are always dogshit every single time.
>>97158712Combat doctor, medic, healer, who is tired of everyone's shit.
Wacko with a blunderbus.
Small bands of violent fun loving idiots.
>>97162394Shit happens. And it's been like that throughout recorded history. The world would be a lot different if Hannibal had destroyed Rome. We would be talking more Phoenician-derived languages and Latin would've faded into obscurity.Unfortunately sandpeople would've been the majority.
Creepy eccentric magic men.
>>97158712>clueless utilitarian cuck with no agency, no bike and total ego death
>>97163051They're fun in a beer and pretzels kind of way, where you running it with a large group whenever you all feel like picking it up and getting funny moments out of it. Though that's ultimately a once in a while thing, not all the time.
The nameless rank-and-file soldier who has no grand ambitions or purpose that somehow got dragged along on this insane quest and just wants to finish it so he can go home to his nameless rank-and-file wife and their nameless rank-and-file children.
>>97158712If you like that garbage, give me an example of a series that does this trope well.
>>97163195They do this in anime all the time.
>>97158966>>97161337>>97162438>>97163195>>97163396You guys really never got over the loss of BroQuest, didn't you?
>>97158712The stand-up, boy scout paladin type hero in a game we were playing when asked "Why are you so good?">The world is shit. The gods are shit. Everyone and everything exists to screw over everyone else. The biggest "Fuck you" I can give the universe is by denying it what it wants. I don't help others because "it's right". I help others because every god, nature, and the universe itself doesn't want anyone to help them because they are at best indifferent or at worst sadists who love suffering. Fuck those guys.
The unabashed speciest who makes good points about the Orcish Question and is in all other respects an upstanding person and great ally. Bonus points if the party contains an Orc who he says is "one of the good ones.">>97163168A flavor being lost every day under the unending tide of fat green midget elves. Which are nice in their own way, but I wish they were their own race instead of supplanting gobbos in the zeitgeist.
>>97158712
>>97164139"Psycho who found a law-abiding niche" is a fun one.
>>97164121>but I wish they were their own race instead of supplanting gobbos in the zeitgeist. You only think this is happening because you consume too much porn (yes the "le heckin gobberino cheesecake" threads on /tg/ count). Everywhere else they're still yhe wonderfully awful, scrawny shits goblins are supposed to be.
>>97158712My favourite trope is playing games. Wish you will some day experience the same.
>>97164512Sadly OP is too busy being a faggot to ever play games.
>>97161811When I "played" 5e, the DM literally ripped his script from some D&D podcast. They had asked me if I wanted to play a game, but I ended up just sitting there listening to the results of someone else's game.
I hate blobtropes.
>The villain is also genuinely moral, but is opposed to the hero's proposed solutionsor>The villain and hero are both heroes, but to two mutually exclusive nations/peopleIt feels like this kind of dynamic is pretty rare, and no I don't mean "evil is actually le oppressed" - that shit is disgusting. I guess you probably need a lower stakes conflict than is popular to make it really work.
>>97162394He was the villain the moment he betrayed a nonaggression treaty signed in good faith.
>>97164822Thankfully he lost, now the g*rman will be extinct within the century and europe will be a beautifully DIVERSE shade of brown! We may have lost against Rome before, but this time our victory will be absolute and eternal!
>>97164860Germans literally were the destroyers of Rome lol
>>97164868Be silent, goyim. You understand nothing.
>>97164912goyim is plural retard.
>>97158712Pathfinder/guide/scout who fails at every single navigation/survival/scouting situation but somehow succeeds in everything else.>>97164121>A flavor being lost every day under the unending tide of fat green midget elvesCoomer addiction has been a disaster for the human race. Worse than an atomic bomb.>>97164860Hey, at least you can vote and have your voice be heard!
>>97164807That second example is more like the original conception of heroes. In the Iliad, both the Trojans and the Greeks had heroes, both paragons of virtue (but not without their tragic flaws) for their own side, but opposed because they belonged to different peoples.
>>97163051You're thinking about sandboxes wrong in that case. Every one of my shadowrun games, two of my warhammer rpg games and a Pathfinder 2e west marches thing I did have been technically sandboxes, and those were great games."Sandbox" just means that the pc's chose where the game is going, usually in a setting that's open enough to give them many options. It can work perfectly well.
>>97164121>>97164445I want them to be both. No reason they can't be anarchist little shitbags and shortstacks at the same time.Alternatively, just use warhammer gobbos, where females don't even exist.
>>97158712Foreigner with a funny accent who worships gods that appear to be evil demons (and actually are evil demons) to the rest of the party but to him it's just normal."Here you don't make blood sacrifice to Lord Mozog? Strange people you are."
>>97162394Double chin faggot.
>>97163525Not well I find. Its a very sheltered creepy as opposed to being interested in the esoteric and unearthly.
>>97164121>but I wish they were their own race instead of supplanting gobbos in the zeitgeist.I don't even bother making specific species distinctions the player characters know about in any clear way between the various humanoids. I don't even really codify them for my purposes.
>>97164912Man you're a goy.
>>97165683He's right though. I'd say most people know on some level that his motivations were around what was good for the german people. That's a pretty virtuous outlook for the leader of those people to have.
The gentle giant who terrifies everyone, but is actually just trying to look after a child.
>>97166093Except for all those Germans he killed for disagreeing with him.
>>97164695>scriptHave you ever looked at a module?
>>97164139I like this a lot better than the charismatic serial killer.>>97163363The morally correct thing to do is to find his bike, beat the person who stole it to death, bring the bike back to him, and smash it in front of him while calling him a weak willed faggot.>>97158712I hate sympathetic villains.>>97162438I have a worldbuilding idea for succubus but it is just coomer shit.>Succubi have 2 different sexual drives: one for hunger and one for reproduction>They rarely get emotionally attached to the sexual partners for the hunger one unlike the one for reproduction.>Usually, the two sex drives are opposites in some way like wholesome/degenerate, gay/straight, dominant/submissive, etc.>>97164121I really hate how we can't just say some from the objectively evil races are just one of the good ones.>>97162394I hate "sympathetic" villains.
>>97166946Players still get to do a little bit with modules, a little bit more than just sitting and listening to someone else talk.
>>97164860>Germanic blood comes back to the fatherland Indo-European super tribe!
>>97158712The paladin/cleric/whatever who is at odds with his faith but rediscovers faith through another tropey plot device.
>>97167793
>>97167793Man I wish we were getting vandals instead of subsaharans.
>>97164445Maybe, maybe. /tg/ and twitter will certainly warp the perception.>>97165152Nah, making them hot chicks changes the vibe. Slapstick violence becomes fetish material. It's like watching the Muppets but they all have fat tits, I'm sure some people are into that but it's not what I'm after.
>>97166373>11 identical faces with dead eyes God anime is such trash
>>97158947What's wrong with voices? I mean they aren't mandatory, but if someone can do them well, why the fuck not use it. Pull that stick out of your ass, sperg.
>>97158712I like >Runaway Princesses They're just fun. They work as characters, and they work better as NPCs (immediately a big thing in the setting that player can choose to respond to in a plethora of ways that affect the setting depending on what they do with her). They can be sorta incompetent, they can be absolutely incompetent at everythingPrinces are fine too I guess but generally they have less to run away from. >ZealotsI find them to be really good ways for newer players to get more into roleplaying and decision making. It genuinely helps a ton to have "well I should check what my religion's tenets are and apply them here" as a fallback to go off of when presented with a decision. And personally I like dealing with religion as a motive in characters anyways. And it's cool to see if/when they do decide to break from it and what the fallout of that can be - though of course that doesn't need to happen.
>>97171144>Runaway PrincessesAny young and naive character is an excellent template for a good character development
>>97158996This is just as gay as>Nazi wizard put in to spite teh libz >:]
>>97162394>becomes addicted to meth>lets Dunkirk happen>invades Russia before conquering England>tries to play Total War irl instead of letting the best generals on earth auto-win for himHe may have been right but he was also retarded
>>97171144Okay but the princess has to crossdress to hide her identity>pc thinks he's getting some fagsex with the Overprotective Knight's young Squire>surprise fucker you just slept with the third in line and it was straight all along
>>97167867A trope I call "Grandfather of Evil">a villain trains someone who needs up being the main antagonist of the gameI like using this trope because it shows how the antagonist didn't spring outta nowhere and has become too powerful for their mentors to control
>>97171211MedsThis never happened
>>97171401Huh, sounds like conservatives are less /pol/brained and more tolerant than leftoids.
>>97164868Did no such thing. You can thank Justinian's autism for that.
>>97171013None of them are even really characters, they are just the generic group of kids Fudou watches over. Makes sense, from a production point, to not dwell on their designs.
>>97158712>The hero doesn't even want to be here.>He was just passing through, and somehow the other characters dragged him into this situation.
>>97163600What's bro quest?
>>97162394>School shooter put in charge of a country>nobleOnly if you are anti human.
>>97158947FPBP.I came around to doing NPC voices because I'm pretty good at them and it makes my players laugh. But 100% the best way to play is to describe conversation, it's fast, efficient and any one can do it.Having full on improv conversations all the time is cancer
>>97161337I like Pratchett's post-hero world. Read some Discworld if you haven't already.
