Could a Changeling with Naming give people merits or flaws? Like, could I make someone permanently short? Or remove a person's addiction?
>>
>>97164192
you can with 10 successes make someone permantly a rabbit so merits should be fine
>>
>>97164208
>>97164192
>Get really mad at someone as a changeling
>Use Naming to give them the enemy flaw (5 dots)
>Caine immediately runs the guy over after swerving from a nearby drunk driver and leaves the scene
I'd love it
>>
>>97164296
well 5 Successes for naming 5 are for the scale of the transformation and the other 5 for the duration so assuming a 5 dot flaw is 5 Successes this can be done with 6!
>>
>>97164315
Magical, don't even need to win that much
>>
>>97164296
Wouldn't cursing someone with the 5 dot Enemy flaw be more like
>he has been marked for death by a garou sept after he accidently saved a Pentex exec from them
>>
>>97164540
Well, at least he can apply for a Pentex job.
>>
>>97158096
>>97158101
>>97158144
>>97158433
Thank you for these. My follow up question would be how feasible is it to establish any strong presence if you're right there in enemy territory? How would the players defend their new turfs if the surrounding areas just decide to send a small army to try and squash the coterie and their allies?
>>
>>97164540
the ctd version is at 5 dots
>kings or impossible horrors from the Dreaming would be five-point Flaws
>c20 pg 174
but i am not enough into ctd to say how bad those guys are
>>
>>97164540
This is probably a much more likely interpretation of enemy 5 but I'd like to imagine Naming working faster as it'd be mid-chronicle rather than at the start of the game
>>97164831
For the Garou? It was the day he personally raped Gaia. For the cursed guy? It was the day his life was ruined. For the Pentex exec? It was just another Tuesday.
>>
How do I make my own hunter compact/conspiracy without making them too overpowered?
>>
>>97165975
All the compacts have to be a little bit OP to contend with the literal supernatural, so just focus on what you're hunting and work specifically against that
>>
>>97165975
Use the we rules for creating them, round up the costs and round down the benefits if you are worried about making something op.
>>
>>97165975
What're you thinking of thematically? I'm running an HtV campaign right now so it's on my mind. The main thing defining a compact is that they are smaller in scope, but aren't necessarily set up like many of the conspiracies are to have a specific supernatural rival that they thematically cater towards.

Really a compact is just a group of individual cells, there isn't as much history to them so there's a lot less that they know (or think they know) for certain, meaning their advantages are often more in the bodies and physical things that they can provide (lodging, lifts, backup etc) than super secret rituals that make a werewolves balls explode.
>>
>>97164998
It's not. "Establishing a presence" in the vampiric sense is a long-term endevour that involves all kinds of activities, from bribed officials to webs of ghouls to revenue streams both legal and illegal, etc.

How they choose to defend their new turf after planting a flag and (presumably) driving out or killing all previous major players depends entirely on what assets they have managed to secure, and what assets are bearing down on them. It could end up being the police from three territories attacking from the front while a cartel alliance comes in through the back, the first thinking they are taking out a cartel cell while the latter thinks they are there to wipe out rivals, or it could be an entire fucking army of szlachta and shovelheads pouring into the streets from the sewers, overtly breaking the masquerade and just wiping out an entire block just to get to the coterie while compromising the use of the area as a power base.

It all depends on so many factors. Again, I think it's a cool scenario, but it would have to be the culmination of a long-term plan that likely started long before the game did, with support from all kinds of sources. Honestly I think I'd cover the entire thing with a cartel war and a border crisis involving the US striking cartels in Mexico, with the Camarilla having previously secured the support of special police organizations, etc., and then the coterie acts within all of that as it goes on, having the support of some officials that are losing their shit as things escalate beyond their control.
>cont.
>>
>>97164998
>>97166663
>cont.
Mexico is a shithole, so making all of this reasonable isn't as hard as it sounds, I think. But vampire society depends on fealties and favors, which largely does not exist across sect lines (but absolutely can!; not all "members" are devout sectarians!) and assets, assets, assets. Always think about what assets the Sabbat can bring to bear, and what assets the Camarilla/the coterie can secure or bring with them, keeping in mind that the Sabbat has been entrenched in the region for, what, two centuries, three? More?
>>
>>97165763
>For the cursed guy? It was the day his life was ruined.
In order to hunt monsters you must become one. Bane me up.
>>
>>97166906
>hunt monsters
>become a monster
All the curse is doing is putting the guy on the fast track to getting either murdered or be target practice for a Garou. Unless he can pacify them it's over
>>
>>97167606
His best bet is to work with someone who can fuck them over. Hell, he should strive become a Pentex exec himself
>>
>>97164208

Hell yeah, with just a few rolls i can wipe most of my flaws & add all those kind nifty but never worth it merits.

Also, if a Mummy used Nomenclature to delete a vampires heart, is there anything a vampire could do to stay alive?

>Also, if a Mummy used Nomenclature to delete a vampires heart, is there anything a vampire could do to stay alive?

ruleswise using naming the body's destruction does agg damage equal to the severity of the wound and "critical loss" which is the max the spell can do does 7 agg damage but it's agg damage that can be soaked with stamina regardless of your splat so a lucky or tanky vampire (or other creature) could tank it and creatures with additional health boxes will somehow surrive it even if you delete their brain or heart

nobody ever accused hekau to be well written
>>
>>97167894
No, only the damage over time AFTER the immediate seven is soakable

It makes the user feel greater than life - which can be used to make friends, inspire followers, earn favors from strangers, or intimate rivals.
Unlike Dominate which explicitly forces obedience, Presence is more polite way of nudging and asking nicely, which usually requires bit of roleplay song and dance to get the desired outcome. Except Majesty, Majesty is literally just a supernatural flashbang.

What would Etherite Cybernetics look like?
>>
>>97170992
Depends on how old the Etherite is.
>Was around for the Electrodine Engineers
Masterfully crafted victorion steampunk-prothesis and enhancements, and while they look dated they're just as functional as the cybernetics of the modern Iteration X. Kind of like the Legion Arms from Lies of P.
>Witnessed the betrayal of the Union and lived WW2
Pulp era sci fi cybernetics. Think Nyctalope, the OG Human Torch, Clockwork Man and of course Simon Wright. So this can go from "badass old school super hero" to "brain in a jar full cyborg."
>Born around the 60s give or take
Kamen Rider, Kikaider, Metal Heroes, Cyborg 009, Moebius aesthetics.
>Whippersnapper aka born after 85
Modern Kamen Rider, anime aesthetics (but more the "Casshern Sins" or other super hero anime than things like Ghost in the Shell, that one belongs to the Virtual Adepts), "new retro" and modern comic book stuff.
At the end of the day, they all would achieve similar purposes. Whether it's the "micro difference engine, hand crafter in platinum and uses ether punch cards directly connected to the base of the skull" or "ether-powered cyber-processing wetware", they'd both be cybernetic implants that allow you to perform complex calculations, access the digital web or whatever crazy idea you have in mind.

Clan for this feel?

The demons have a very particular problem when they leave the Abyss finally. They have lost their purpose. When they were Elohim before the War, God gave them their purpose. They had a place in Creation. During the War, their cause and their leaders gave them purpose. They were to win the war, to earn their free will, to free humanity, to get revenge, whatever their individual reason for fighting was.

The books state many demons planned to restart the War when the Abyss cracked but they discovered that the enemy was nowhere to be found. Elohim no longer roamed the Earth or at least were hidden from the Fallen. They couldn't enter Heaven any more. God no longer answered. Humanity had moved on from the War. It was over. Now they had nothing. No place in Creation, no War, just each other and humanity. There were new things, like the Garou, but nothing that gave them a purpose. Now they have to find their own way. For the first time in eternity, they truly had free will. What should they do with it? Should they create new life again? Should they become new gods? Should they continue trying to break into Heaven, to try to continue the War? Should they collect books? Should they play games? Should they get married? All these questions they've never had before.

Player characters are expected to be driven in some fashion of course. They have a clarity of purpose because they are players, they are the main characters, they have their plans when they build their demons. An RPG generally requires the players to participate in the world. They generally need to answer the call to adventure, otherwise they wouldn't be player characters. But what about the other demons? What do they do? Sure, there are the demonic Courts, organizations giving other demons purpose. How many are spiritually lost though? Wandering the world in search of a purpose that no longer exists? Do they yearn for the days when God told them what to do? Do they wish the War never ended?

Everyone but the Lupus and Mummies working under Zeus (the first Mummy). One seeks to bring about the Lunar Apocalypse and the other one seeks Greek dominance. I used to fiendfag occasionally a half-decade ago or so before returning to lurking most of the time. If you're certain about curling that monkey's paw I could be convinced to provide shit takes every now and again.

Thanks for your posts friend, they were fun to interact with

Monkey's paw is the name of the IP at this point, don't feel bad

since when do we hate the arcanum? did i miss something?
>>
>>97173189
We don't, but they're objective lazy "hunters" who hog useful data like gremlins. They're fun but they're not meant to be useful in game without bending over for them I think.

Salubri are good.

Fuck Tremere, this thread is a Hermetic thread. Go back to your cuck triangle

Most Arcanists probably wouldn't even call themselves Hunters.
>>
>>97173189
It's more annoyance and frustration than active hate. They're pretentious scholars more concerned with being "smart" than actually helping.
>>
>>97173230
>Occam is Welsh (basically Irish)
Perhaps all the Arcanum is like that
>>
>>97173189
They shouldn't be called hunters since they barely do any hunting. They're wannabe mages but without the true magic part. Then there's the fact they're mogged hard by big Leo and glowies.
>>
>>97173230
>Hey guys vampires are dangerous why don't we just hide and study them from afar
>This is boring. I should learn some magic. What, talk to some wizards and learn from them? Nah they'd feed me to their robot dogwife or something.
>Why do werewolves spell worm like they're dyslexic? I should obtain some extra research funds for this, sounds like a big job.
>>
>>97173264
On the other hand, the Arcanum are probably the most likely hunter org to get to sleep with the Werewolves

Sleep with the fishes, more like. Crypto-fanboys would make terrible kinfolk.

What are the best books for a total noob who wants to GM?

Finally proving their allegiance to s*tan. Guess who's much gonna find a better use for all that knowledge.
>>
>>97173300
Depends on what you wanna run. If you don't know, the consensus is Vampire and Hunter are the easiest to learn.
>>
>>97173280
They aren't kinfolk, but imagine when a Kinfolk actually engages with you about your special interest and treats you like a good boy for it instead of telling you you're some controlling schizophrenic and trying to leave? Woofs seem emotionally rather vulnerable like that.
>>97173300
You want an honest opinion and don't care about the lore or setting too much? H5 is probably one of the easiest things to run with very little to manage. If you want to actually play WoD at its best read VtM 20th and only allow stuff from that book except what adventure you want to be dealing with like some of the ones we've talked about here. Maybe a one shot.
>>
>>97173309
Leopoldites would immediately burn all the books and go back to square one though, arguably all you accomplished was killing off a bunch of nerds too scared to do anything.

The core books, basically.

The Irish bitching lines were all taken from the journal of Winthrop Murray, the de facto second in command of the Arcanum when it was founded. Picrel is him. He specialized in Egyptology. He was very mad when the founder, Benjamin Holmscroft, invited an Irishman to be a founding member and he was in utter disbelief when Holmscroft let women join. He spent most of his later years in a nice penthouse in Cairo which he named "The Watchtower".

He also somehow found a way to turn himself into a Mummy. He was that much of an Egyptophile.

He is him, the protagonist. That's very cool though, I'd headcanon that maybe his autism for Egyptology was so strong it developed into True Faith to something like that.

We would never, that's horribly inefficient. It would be selling lottery tickets to be able to rent out a Quintessence NFT.
