In a universe where music can have actual magical properties like D&D or Warhammer, musical instruments would be a major area of research and development for any government or other power institution, so it's likely that modern instruments would appear earlier in the timeline than in the real world. Not only that, if electronic speakers and radio could be used to transmit magic as well as sound, bardic-type magic would probably become the dominant form of magic once the infrastructure became advanced enough. The recording industry and the military-industrial complex would be even more indistinguishable in a magi-tech society than in real life.
