I think they don't like it either.
>They already have. Console+PC for a strategy game is just setting yourself up for failure, and you can see from the screenshots that they've already gimped it with a phone-game UI. This is also creative assembly we're talking about. The company full of retards who can't even get units to path properly in warhammer 3 and took several years to finally do something about units having ass-ladders that trivialized sieges. Anyone with a smidgen of competence at the company is fighting an uphill sisyphean battle against upper management idiocy.
>The design decisions already made make it clear that the only thing going through upper management's heads with this game, is ticking off the checkboxes for what makes the most money possible: Release on consoles and PC at the same time, who cares if strategy games don't work on console, just do it. Plus 4 factions at launch so they can shit out endless $60 DLC for the next 10 years. Total game cost in 2030 will run over $1000 if you get every DLC.
>Shit's absolutely cooked.
>Dawn of War 4 might be ok, I don't have high hopes but it has a chance. Total War: 40k though? Just stick a fork in it, the game's cooked already.

The animator fell for the typical "big dude is wearing armor that means he's slow" trap ignorant retards always fall for with marines. I like mixing ArmyPainter's washes with speedpaint medium. Dilutes the wash pretty well and it shades the model quite nicely without overly colour-tinting the model's colours too much.
Example of such a mix in use: https://youtu.be/YBQvcezm1ik?t=606
I've noticed that AK is going to release their own acrylic washes in dropper bottles. Seems their acrylic deep shades may have bombed.
I wonder if I can mix the acrylic washes with their quick-gen medium and get similar results.

Depending on your faction, but Total War deals with tons of units. 40k in tabletop is more in line with Dawn of War scale. It is small unit tactics. You might have as many as 100-200 models in the most extreme cases with horde armies like imperial guard/tyranids. Wait why am I telling anyone this in /40kg/? But Total War isn't Dawn of War. A full army in Total War Warhammer would have almost WHFB 8ed levels of infantry blobs depending on faction. If they make it for consoles, they'd need to make it way less models and onscreen bullets or objects whizzing around the screen being processed. If it's PC first then ported, I expect the console versions to run like crap. It'll either be so Dawn of War that it's pointless to call it Total War, or it'd be insanely demanding for consoles, likely poorly optimized because Creative Assembly is Creative Assembly.
>>
It is inescapably true that Total War: 40k is just not going to work, but the reasons have everything to do with the companies (both - james wokeslop and creative assembly) and the game being made for consoles first and foremost. I can quite confidently say that this game will be an absolute disaster in every single way that matters - creatively, in lore, mechanically, aesthetically - except in the one way that ultimately determines the life or death of it: Whether it sells.

Because I can't imagine it won't sell. People are desperate for any kind of 40k slop, no matter how rancid it is. Only in hindsight 5 years from now looking back at the game will the anything-consuming slop-eaters realize what a mistake it was to give money to this dev team and how naive they were to have any hope for the game.

Frankly if you're a fan of 40k, Dawn of War 4 is starting off on much firmer ground and I'd recommend focusing on that one instead of the garbage creative assembly is about to serve you. I can't tell you that DoW 4 will be good, but it's going out of the gate in a much better position, with a dev team that at least likes the company-of-heroes/dawn-of-war style gameplay, has some prior experience with it, are on the upswing with new ideas they want to try rather than the downswing like CA.

Total War: 40k not designed for Total War players either. It's designed for console players and 40k fans who have never played a TW game. Its amazing how TW fans have completely memoryholed CA trying to kill Total War with HYENAS. If that game had made it big, they would have already ditched Total War completely.

It is an indisputable FACT that strategy games and consoles don't mix. They didn't mix 25 years ago, they are not about to mix today. The absolute best strategy game ever released on console is Halo Wars, which is by the standards of PC strategy games, completely forgettable.

Making a total war game for consoles is the height of idiocy. This game is dead on arrival for the sole explicit fact that it is being designed from the ground up around a controller instead of keyboard/mouse, let alone any of the other common problems that come from games being on the console, like the dumbification of everything so console players can understand it - console players that can barely even grasp simply charging at the enemy. I expect this'll be the most basic total war game if it has to work on controller. and they can't design the game differently for each platform, at best they'll make a slightly more PC UI and call it a day. Would laugh my ass off if DoW4 ends up being the more intricate game.

>I expect the console versions to run like crap
For me, the problem is not Total War on console. The problem is "console Total War" on pc. It's similar to your complaint in that it'll likely be extremely dumbed down but my problem is the dumbed down version is going to be pc. Most Total War players are clearly pc gamers thus this is a high risk gamble alienating or providing seriously dumbed down material to your main audience. That announcement better be a Halo 2 level "Out trailer is 100% completely different from the final game" because
>1. Console RTS.
>2. Made for mobile UI.
>3. 2 Resources in Campaign.
>4. CA’s DLC Policy.
>5. Tiny maps/no FoW.
>6. 12 unit Army Cap atm
>7. No indication of diplomacy
This feels like Total War lite. It's going to be the mockery of the rest of the Total War community for being the most baby tier mechanically if it's basically a console Total War on PC.

And we don't know if this Chaos Marine is Ausvarx, formerly of the Luna wolves and veteran of 10,000 years of the long war; or Bobivex, who just last year was cleaning the latrines before he was taken and stuffed with geneseed to swell the ranks.

Looking to kitbash a non primaris Wolf Priest for my guys I'm working on. Got plenty of bits for the body and accessories, but the things i'm stumped on at the moment are his helmet and crozius. my best idea so far for the wolf skull helmet is to try and get my hands on one from a 30k Deathsworn unit, but as for the crozius, I don't have a solution beyond taking a normal one from another chaplain model and using that, but I figure that sense I'm doing this, I might as well go full wolf as best I can. any of you guys have any alternatives?

The question is, why do this when consoles are on their way out? Maybe 4 years ago I understand, but now nobody cares about consoles if its not the switch.

Lascannon is higher strength and more range which allows it to be a backfield support piece, especially with the aura. The plasma cannon is a reliable source of D3 as well, and has the AP to actually be threatening to TEQ unlike the rokkits which just bounce off.
>>
>>97172605
The flashback is the proper course, when Titus is at his lowest and he thinks back to an exchange he had with Gorillaman that gives him a surge of strength
>>
>>97172612
Anon you get a single shot of a d6 lascannon for 135 points. The deff dread gets 4 d3 damage missile shots. I'm not saying the deff dread is an incredible unit but you have to be delusional to not see how the sm dread is abismally bad if it's worse than the deff dread no matter what you do. Nevermind that you have the ballistus there for 5 extra points giving yoi twice as many guns, more wounds and more toughness. Dreads are just bad.
>>
>>97172579
>>97172612
Also don't mistake this as me saying the Dreadnought is costed properly; it's not, but the Deff Dread is still a bit pricey and also lacks squadroning. The Deff Dread should be 105 and the Dreadnought should be about 115.

I got this terrain set that includes everything you need to play the game, including a printable mat image so it's not as difficult to get into. But again someone in my playgroup has an FDM printer, that helped a lot. I think the whole thing cost us about $70, excluding the printer. Need to get together and just paint the terrain some time.
Our first game took about three hours, but the 2nd one we played afterwards was only 75 minutes something. I think we can finish a game in an hour once we get to know the rules/detachments.

Decided to go with the bottom right as an army mate suggested that as it's on the flank armour and not sloped it'd be an area you'd want to protect more with whatever you've got available.

To add some more decoration to the front I found some old chain bits and added them. I think they're probably from the flagellant set. I'm trying to keep my IW practical rather than ornate, so the chains are there as additional armour to stop projectiles hitting the groin, but I think they're a good addition for style too.

For me, it's also how the overworld map would be in a setting where interplanet travel is ship-only and CA constantly refuses (for better or worse) to do naval battles. And most armies can deploy armies of troops in drop pots or nail places with orbital bombing, so how would the settlement management system be balance (if at all) when everyone can do that? In WHFB or to my knowledge most of AoS, nobody could do something so game breaking.

well, I think logistics are fun, but I know that most gamers probably wouldn't be. like, it sounds very fun to manage a supply train system on top of the existing map and being able to cut it off or getting cut off yourself and having to get creative. also it sounds fun to start a battle with little ammo because your supply train got cut off, so you have to make it count. just seems fun. but getting it right is more important when CA said in their blog that they want to make "the definitive accurate 40k galaxy simulator"

Galaxy Map
The galaxy map functions as a hybrid between a campaign selection menu and meta-progression. You don't actually move armies or end turns here, instead you're given an overview of the galaxy at large and offered several campaigns to take part in.

Those campaigns are split into three types: Full campaigns, short campaigns, and singular decisive battles. Full campaigns will be closest to traditional Total War, set in a full star system meant to be longer and finished over multiple sessions. Short campaigns will feature only a few planets and be intended to be completed in a single evening. Singular battles are self explanatory. So it's a "choose your commitment" type system

Campaigns can either be generated, or narrative. So there will be campaigns set in handcrafted systems/locations from the lore, with narrative objectives and factions, and also campaigns that are more randomized

Completing campaigns carries over effects and changes to the galaxy layer and potentially future campaigns. The example they gave was helping the Imperial Guard in one campaign leads to allied Imperial Guard forces showing up to support you throughout battles in your next campaign

It's unclear how much management will be done at this layer, but the article does seem to hint that you'll manage the systems you've taken in campaigns
>>
>>97173660
Campaign Layer
The campaign layer sounds like it will function like a traditional total war campaign. You have armies, fleets, resources, infrastructure to manage, and you move them around the map

Campaigns will feature multiple planets in single systems/sectors. Planets will be different biomes and states of war (some may have ongoing battles, be hive planets, etc)

Planets will be separated by space (seemingly connected by lanes, if the gameplay preview is anything to go by), which will be traversed by your fleets. Similar to the role the sea played in previous total war's

Upgrading fleets and fighting space battles was mentioned, but those details aren't being revealed yet

Planets
Each planet will function like a little mini total war campaign map.

Continents are stated to be about the size of provinces in current Total War. Armies move around here like a normal Total War map, where you move them around on a board essentially.

Instead of building cities you are mostly relegated to building outposts and bases. Cities will still play a part however, they will be more like independent entities that you occupy and then manage from there instead of building and upgrading yourself. Constructing buildings and recruiting units in them was mentioned, so it seems like it'll be a similar to current city management just more horizontal rather than vertical.

Your fleets can interact with planets by doing orbital bombardment, exterminatus, etc.

>Nothing about the sliver of gameplay they showed suggested it had consoles in mind.

I know the UI was just a static image but even then it doesn't suggest console support at all. How are you supposed to click on all of these with a controller? I don't trust CA and I want more gameplay to see how things work but complaining about things that aren't true won't do anything.
>>
>>97173548
While playing no but when I write stuff about my dudes I do like to consider logistics and any other logic implications of what they are doing or need to do to complete their objective. Makes things feel more grounded to me.

>After how non-functional Realms of Chaos was, I have no hope they do anything new well. Though this sounds DoW enough that I can't call it new.
That's understandable but the system described there makes quite a lot of sense. How it will be implemented is up in the air but from a design point of view sounds solid and much more sensible to the reality of 40k than just having the usual total war map and campaign.

>>
>>97173721
Possibly cycling with shoulder buttons or they're doing PC first before making a console UI later. But it's been mandated a console release immediately and therefore they'll need to make it work for console. Even a port means it needs to run and it's announced already it's coming, not like a last minute change. This means it's saddled with it from much earlier.
>>
>>97173760
Or perhaps the console port will be an afterthought and will be janky and unplayable at higher difficulties. If it turns out to be super dumbed down (which I don't think why it should to be honest) then sure make some noise but right now there's nothing concrete to complain about in that regard. Supposedly they'll talk more about the game in the 16th.
>>
>>97173660
How will they account for the fact that it takes decades to cross a single segmentum using traditional warp travel methods? Or did the Great Rift change that?
>>
>>97173780
It doesn't take decades. It's not instant but you can cross the entire galaxy in a couple of months. I was re-reading the 4th tyrannic war the other day and Agemman was near Ultramar chasing Death Guard after the plage wars and he was fast enough to go all the way to Bastior to help with the defense there before the tyrannids arrived.
>>
>>97172058
>painting the ultramarine symbols on both right White
They look like toilet seats, lmao
>>
>>97172180
No, that would upset Space Timmy players and we can't have that!
>>
>>97173771
It might be an afterthought, which would imply CA at least has the foresight to preemptively give up on it, but that assumes they'd allow it to be a trash port from corporate demand. You could just as easily argue the placeholder UI is just their first developed or may not even be functional on PC, and thus we know little about what is being made, be PC or console. Currently CA is hemorrhaging after HYENAS had been canned and they are clearly both desperate and constantly making bad decisions. Just looking at the unit size from the short display, it's already been more compared to DoW than past Total Wars.

And it's not just janky and unplayable at higher levels, if they build so a console can handle it, even ignoring hardware, it can lead to a fundamental dumbing down of mechanics because controllers can't keep up with more complex gameplay. Reminder that the other console RTS CA developed was Halo Wars 2 and that game is dumb as bricks and has less depth than even your average rock-paper-scissors RTS. The moment combat looks dumbed down and with CA's incompetence, the pre-alpha would need massive backlash to get them to change it besides cosmetics and (lol) balancing.
>>
>>97173799
Yeah, that's nulore. Rick Priestley has stated that his original intention with 40k's setting was that warp travel takes so long that armies are restricted to their own local galactic regions for the most part. This is why during the Eye of Terror campaign in 3e they had to create an entirely new Ultramarines Honor Company disconnected from the Ultramarines command (made up of successor chapter members sent individually, like the deathwatch) based around the Eye of Terror to justify ultramarines participating, because the actual Ultramarines are based in Ultramar which is nowhere near the Eye of Terror. I guess that wasn't capeshitty enough for GW so they changed it
>>
>>97173842
Nobody gives a shit about lore that's not canon anymore.
>>
>>97173833
>Just looking at the unit size from the short display, it's already been more compared to DoW than past Total Wars.
By blind people. DoW has 10 orks per unit. Every shot we have ot TW40k has at least 80 orks per unit. The guard units also have about a platoon worth of men in them. I'm more concerned about how unit movement and cover will be than comparing it to DoW sizes because that's just plain wrong.
>>
>>97173842
They need to have the same dozen characters in every single story beat so we can't have that.
>>
>>97173833
Yeah, I'm scared shitless that the battles are just gonna be halo wars levels of retarded and dumbed down and that the scale will just be "slightly bigger dawn of war" instead of Epic scale. Orbital bombardment in the gameplay was definitely an epic scale strike and not just a regular dawn of war/28mm scale orbital strike though, so here's hoping what was shown is supposed to be a small battle or something
>>
>>97173842

man I wished this was still the case
>>

>>97173862
I fail to see how HW2's battles are any more dumbed down than DoW's. Not every RTS is a fast paced micro hell like StarCraft.
>>
>>97173850
Everything is canon unless a piece of lore directly contradicts it/a GW employee comes out and outright says it's not canon. Ultramarines honor company is still canon as a result, it's just that the reasoning behind it now makes no sense
>>
>>97172676
This looks pretty dangerous, if it was a BL novel I could credibly see one of them stub a toe.
>>
Why don't more 40k media remember Space Marine stasis implants? The stuff that makes them enter a living but near-death state upon huge injury. This would justify troop replenishment or upon winning a battle you can say your injured guys were recovered and stabilized.
>>
>>97173868
Well DoW's battles always were retarded and dumbed down. Honestly the only RTS featuring guns that aren't single-shot is probably Graviteam Tactics or something, everything else seems to be a variation of "guy gets shot ten billion times, doesn't flinch and eventually falls over"

gonna be real with you chief i have played most of the total war games and sunk a lot of hours into TW:WH. i can see TW:40k being a functionally good game. my biggest problem with CA is that the TW:WH games so far have had a bunch of DLC slapped onto the arse end of it and it is always over priced. i will still love the tabletop, painting and books a lot more than a video game though.
with that said though /40kg/ has had dogshit thread quality as of late and i don't want /v/aggots shitting it up even more with their gay little shitposts. we only recently bullied the namefag out of here and i think he just lurks now but he is so clearly autistic that his posts are always obvious. /v/iggas pls go.

>>

>>lasbolts clipping through terminators to hit things behind them
That's probably going to be a thing kept given that map doesn't look all hills and raised platforms. A balancing factor for guns in Total War tends to be their inability to rain at an arc and you can only directly fire. This is where bowmen and crossbowmen, though lacking in armor-piercing and gun-exclusive benefits, can lob shots over. Positioned badly, your guns will incur tons of friendly fire. For the Skaven and Chaos Dwarfs, they care so little about their underlings that they regularly fire into their own forces without a care but given the lack of bows in 40k? I bet it'd be extremely troublesome if they didn't remove friendly fire.
>>
>>97173986
>Doesn't account for the pitifully small scale, even compared to other TW games
How? Space marines aside both orks and IG had TW unit sizes.
>or the retarded shit like the guardsmen lined up behind barricades like napoleonic infantry waiting to get shot
That was my biggest worry before the game was announced but honestly I can't see any other way to do it that's actually responsive. They could do it like DoW2 but with units that big I don't know how.
>>
>>97173993

>>97174005
>How? Space marines aside both orks and IG had TW unit sizes.

TW battles that aren't made up of only a few units are usually battalion or regimental scale with thousands of troops on each side. This looked like a company scale engagement with only a few squads of marines and guardsmen vs maybe 100-200 orks. These should be epic scale (as in the game, epic, or Legions Imperialis scale if you're a faggot) battles, not games that look smaller than even an apocalypse game (apocalypse in 40k would still be pitifully small compared to epic/total war scale btw)

>>97174015
>>I don't want to actually set up proper sightlines and firing positions
You do but look at how flat that map is. There's going to be very little room for it with exception. Much of your manpower will be positioned waiting at locations they can shoot, basically camping in a corner, or they'd be waiting behind their fellow man because they can't shoot. Just MAYBE, there will be enough artillery for indirect fire but just look at those guard in the barricade behind the barricade. In-game, that's asking to shoot your own guy.

So has Lion done anything yet?
>>
>>97174039

I will grant that there are turtling armies and positioning is important, but corner camp cheese in Total War is one of the most boring and least engaging styles. One of the reasons I'm not as fond of Legend is because he's the type to just use a cheese build or A.I. exploits more than interesting or even skillful. If I have to deal with a Total War game that is obsessed with holding position and camping until the enemy dies of old age, I'm going to quit before the match is over.

What annoys me more is the stupidly uneven power levels in the fluff. In some stories you have CSM one punch killing Custodes and in other stories you have them getting rolled by Guardsmen. The power levels of factions seem ro be best represented in the DoW series of video games.

If artillery's in the game, it needs to be a deciding factor in battles, similar to how archers already work in TW...and also the fact that artillery is King of the Battlefield, with infantry as his Queen.

In most versions of Epic, having some form of artillery is essential, even a small unit gives you a huge advantage. I like everything Ive used from them so far EXCEPT their spray paint. I tried 8 different rattle cans each of a white, grey and black this year, and out of all them, regardless of conditions, all being shaken equally, only the Army Painter brands threw ruinous droplets out and repeatedly at that. I put my empty cans down range and shoot them once empty, Army Painter cans were the first time I've put half finished cans out there. They use shitty nozzles that the every other spray can brand abandoned decades ago.

Pic partially related, I'm an amateur who started this hobby early this year, so my opinions mean little.

I feel like most people I've ever seen talking about the benefits of gatekeeping anything are generally secondaries. They'll use whatever theyre seething about as the reasoning why they don't participate in the part of the hobby they're the laziest about or can't participate in due to money, social dynamics, skill, etc. Generally this leads to them being more often obsessed with the lower effort parts of the hobby like lore, or video games. Painting models requires the money to buy them, the effort to paint them, and the time it takes to finish them. Playing games requires the ability to interact with people in public, the means to transport their army, and the knowledge or ability to read your rules and know what to do. These are both higher effort parts of the hobby.

Hey bigsister-san
For best results pick up some microsol and microset - it softens the decal and makes it conform to rounded or uneven surfaces better.
Best of luck girlie!

AoS has the split stats with attacks and BS/WS as part of the weapon instead of the model, the non-modular weapons and the mandatory ability on every single unit since the beggining and all of that was copied in 10th making the game even worse. They copied the nonexistent FOC system AoS used until 4th changed it too. Everything wrong with current 40k comes directly from AoS.

>Everything wrong with current 40k comes directly from AoS.
I'll stick that more to the lack of a decent rules writing team for 40k than anything else.

Killing WFB has been disaster and it's effects are spreading.
>>
>>97174983
Nope.
AoS has some great models.

Anon are you stupid? All of these mechanics started in AoS and have been slowly ported to 40k since 8th. 10th is just the culmination of it. I'm surprised they didn't remove the S/T table in 10th too. About the only thing AoS has taken from 40k is command points and even then command abilities were a thing in AoS before 8th turned them into stratagems.

Frankly 10e didn't go far enough. It went halfway so it got the worst of both worlds, missing out on the shit that makes aos feel good to play. The fact that a lascannon beam still stops politely at the first cultist in a mob is proof of that

Even the AoS players think the new edition is shit so I don't think you want them to double down again.

Damage not spilling is one of the last redoubts of good game design left.

Infantry is the janitor that just cleans up the leftovers after the artillery, airstrikes, and direct fire party. They hold a position after the fight and provide targets for subsequent attacks. Queens of nothing but turning rations into poop.

And I plan on drinking more of them. Especially later joiners who never play WHFB and pretend they're oldfags. Those generate the most impotent tears whenever they try and rewrite history.

DoK and CoS mostly don't have that problem in AoS.

I find it amusing that in general /40kg/ has no grudge against AoS with occasional praising a mini that's liked but so many try to make it sound like AoS is disliked rather than largely indifferent here due to being a separate game.

If you loook at what they did with WHFB, I am optimistic about the whole thing long-term.

I am also a 25 year veteran of Total War games, and thus I am not very optimisitc for the first six to twelve months after release, because CA can't into QA.
Yes, Shogun 2 was an exception, I know that.
