I've been in dates like this and it's awkward. They ask you to teach them, but soon regret it. They can't learn chess without focusing on it and if they do that it's not a date anymore, it's a borefest. Every mistake is a frustration and the game is playing on your opponents ignorance, it simply doesn't have that sexual spark. I know it's just an excuse, but is one of the worst ones.

>wow anon, such good move... you are so smart...
>bitch that was e4

Must be nice playing with a girl that knows chess though, especially if she gets a joy at beating your ass..

Chess requires a high degree of visual-spatial reasoning (i.e. the ability to think about objects moving through an imaginary space in your mind) and that is one of the few gender differentiated skills that women just do not have at a high level. The original use of visual spatial reasoning goes all the way back to our primitive ancestors needing to be able to judge how to throw things at targets. A trait that was selected for in men being the hunters of the family unit, but not for women.

Chess is a game for everybody but it is necessary to segregate it by sex so that both groups are playing with their peer skill groups. Women can attain high level Chess skills through dedicated practice and experience (see Judith Polgar) but on average the skill disparity makes mixed sex matches unpleasant for either party.

Sweet summer child not only are none of those pursuits of any value to humanity whatsoever, in actual fact they are the biggest threats in the world and one of only a few things that could wipe out humanity entirely. Not to mention the billions of dollars/euro waste and environmental impact of such research. I don't know about geopolitical strategist.

Furthermore, as has been pointed out many times including by Hikaru himself, elite chess players don't have exceptional intelligence and their talent is also centered around one thing.

Essentially, their brains have been wired a particular way since birth and just because they are really good at one thing doesn't mean they would be much good at another. As an example of this take the phenomenon of HSAM - highly superior autobiographical memory. Sort of the autobiographical memory equivalent of chess elites, these people remember every single day of their lives. Yet they are not exceptionally gifted in any other intellectual way.

People are good at different things, creative in different ways, intelligent in different ways. Even chimps can outperform humans at some memory tests. So where does this leave people who insist on a strict hierarchy of intelligence, all defined by IQ test numbers? It leaves them nowhere, because that's all bullshit and all a fantasy. It originates in a classist society where some families would become doctors/lawyers etc. and then other families would become tradies and the white collars would look down on the tradies and have a better life than them. For sure some people are better suited to different trades but the hierachy and idea of singular intelligence defined by iq is nonsense.

Whether or not this is true isn't the fault of technology there will be and have always been evil humans ripping people up someway or somehow.
I see obsessively dedicated learners with ridiculous genetic talent for abstract thinking and learning of deep systems Blubaum is one convenient example he started a mathematician. If it was only visual also they wouldn't be able to so easily play games blind or spoken by position. Chess is also only a fixed system according to the language game which discloses it, a paradigm like chess can always make sense under another just as in science a theory does.

Here's the secret to chess. The previous move is the biggest clue to find the best move. Chess positions don't change that much move to move. Focus on the changes the last move made, which new squares are now under attack and which squares are no longer attacked. Remembering and keeping track of what has already happened, will give you foresight into the future.

Making a goofy chess game, basically you're just doing puzzles for points with a streak multiplier like on a regular site, but for every three you get right in a row it lets you pick a single use card that can change the rules for one puzzle. If you use one it'll let you cook and try to beat the puzzle "under par" for multiplicative bonuses. I wanted to make chess Balatro but I only vaguely know what Balatro is. Kinda hard making the cards balanced and fun, but I did have a cool tactic with a "knights get pawn attacks" one, and my own minimum viable engine used the "Whoops! All knights!" one against me, so I think this could be neat with some more features.

I used to play go, but it's just slow as hell compared to chess. You don't have 4-10 move checkmate tricks there, or the equivalent of 1 minute bullet games.

IMO Go is way harder and less forgiving than chess. Things can swing either way very fast if the best/worst move is played, just like in chess, but there aren't many openings, gambits and moves you can memorize, there are patterns, of course, but it really depends on the whole board.

Smaller boards. 9x9 or 13x13, usually way faster games.

there are plenty of tactics in saving weak groups, life-and-death, connection battles, and ko fights, but they they may only give you a local result rather than a game ending advantage. There is such depth of strategy, makes me wish I learned to play it much earlier in my life.

What the fuck is up with Benko players online? I play the Half-Accepted variation where instead of accepting the second pawn you go e3 instead. I have heard that this can be a bit annoying to Benko players - well fucking tough.

But it's like they make every move in like 1-3 seconds and end the game usually with 2 minutes on the clock.

Is it supposed to be some kind of intimidation? Is it they really hate the e3 variation? Do they just know where they want to put their pieces immediately, even though I win more than Iose against this type of person? Is it that it's a bunch of kids playing the Benko? Like what is going on?

I wish I could say I don't let it affect me but it is offputting, this feeling like there's someone on meth at the other end. First few moves obviously is fine, still in opening theory, but this relentless speed and aggressive play also, do they think they will end with 2 minutes on the clock and everyone will applaud at this magnificent player? It's just offputting. Chess is supposed to be a relaxing game. Genuinely curious if anyone knows anything about this. See a little of it in KID also.

It’s a very low goal for an entire year, I was 1000 before I knew that chess had openings. I kept getting annoyed that people would “copy” each other and rage in chat that they should try having their own ideas. Some guy eventually was like “Uh it’s just the Ruy Lopez” and I went down a rabbit hole, in amazement.
Your goal for next year if you’re not retarded should be 1500 minimum. All time controls.

1. You know you can just use the arrows on your keyboard right?
2. Are you playing some kind of meme format? If not you got hacked and should report it.
>>
>>97263398
It's Bughouse, an highly addictive variant. The queen is coming from the other board.
>>
>>97263457
>Are you playing some kind of meme format?
not intentionally, I just clicked play online and got this game.
>>97263466
how to avoid playing bughouse? What other board?
>>
>>97263355
Interesting, Firefox can't play chess.com for me at all. When I click Start Game it just refuses to register it.
>>
>>97263484
Make sure when you click play game that the "variant" is Standard. It isn't on Bughouse by default so you accidentally navigated there
>>
>>97263484
>What other board?
Click "Partner" to see it. This variant requires a good coordination with your partner: you had to use the chat to tell him not to trade queens, or if it's forced, to trade when it's your turn to move.

Stop getting upset over chess games. It spikes your cortisol.
Gemini explains:
>Spiked cortisol, often called "cortisol face," causes physical changes like a rounder, puffier face (moon face), weight gain in the abdomen, and a buffalo hump (fat pad behind the neck) due to fluid retention and fat redistribution, plus skin issues like acne, thinning skin, stretch marks, slower healing, and premature aging, all from excess stress hormone affecting metabolism and skin health.

If your opponent did something stupid, it’s their own loss for being stupid. Stoicmax. Cortisolmin.

Hi chess autist anons.
Question:
Are female chess players really harassed at events and stuff or is it overblown?
This is apparently the reason why they have their own female leagues despite chess being purely intellectual
>>
>>97265036
Fell for what? If you're worried about the fork Qa5+ wins you a knight.
>>
>>97266342
>really harassed
Yes, but evidences are scarce and we trust what female players say in interviews. One case was confirmed though: https://www.chess.com/news/view/vulgar-letters-chess-meduza
>their own female leagues
Not the main reason. They are embarrassed to always be at the bottom of open tournaments, so they want their own thing with the possibility of winning some money.

I thought this was a good game before hitting Review...
>>
>>97266342
No the reason they have their own tournaments is because they’re less competitive than the best men and wouldn’t have opportunities to win tournament money and be professionals otherwise. There are competing explanations for why that is, but everyone admits that’s the reason.
>>
>>97267750
Good job. Don’t be alarmed when your rating drops back down, progress isn’t linear. Just focus on improving and don’t pay too much attention to rating. Sometimes when you’re improving and experimenting which will make you better in the long term, you can sacrifice rating and take some losses in the short term. That’s fine x
>>
Chessbros I started a couple months ago and am around 500 on chess.com, any tips on how to progress more quickly?
>>
>>97269776
Tactics on Chesstempo, studies on Lichess, review your games on WintrChess, play the same opening over and over until you master it.
>>
>>97269776
Watch Chess Fundamentals by John Bartholomew on youtube.
Watch opening videos by Hanging Pawns on youtube and decide on an opening.
Play nothing shorter than 15 minute games and study them after. This means turning on the engine and seeing what it says you should have played instead, and understanding why.
As you get stronger, begin to take an interest in chess history and look through the games of the greatest players. You can do this on chessgames.com.
Just keep playing and making a conscious effort to do better every game, seems like it would go without saying but a lot of people just spam new game and treat it like Candy Crush. Don’t mistake the fact that chess is fundamentally an intellectual pursuit and a science and requires immense amounts of study and education.

I always find games where I think I played a blinder I end up getting like 60 accuracy score, and games that I swore were sloppy low grade crap end up being 80-90. Happens every time.

>always be at the bottom of open tournaments
But I thought women are equal to men? So why would they be worse?
>>
>>97270280
Scientists say that they have a smaller brain.
>>
>>97270280
Women are less ambitious than men on average and are self-contained and self-satisfied. Men are constantly reaching outward and upward and trying to distance themselves from the womb. This is how civilization was raised, and why religion changed from Mother Earth worship to Father Sky God. It’s not that women are less intelligent, they’re just different, on a deep level. Women want to burrow, men want to conquer.
Theoretically, if a woman was grown in a lab and brainwashed to want to be a competitive chess player, there’s no reason she wouldn’t be able to, and her name is Judit Polgar.
>>
>>97270280
Women are not as adept at spatial-visual reasoning, presumably a biological hangover from when men were hunters and needed to anticipate and plan the movements of prey they were hunting. It's why they also suck at making furniture, they don't have the same capacity to visualize moving and placing objects in the future. Doing that well is obviously fundamental to complex chess but I'm sure there are other reasons too like women being in general less autistic and competitive than men.

You have to choose one of the current top ten to win a Classical game against, and if you lose, or draw, you die. Obviously, you’re going to die. But for the best of the slimmest of chances, who do you choose?
>>
>>97282255
Keymer easily. He’s pretty blind tactically and is basically an overtrained mediocrity whose parents had the means of hiring Peter Leko to coach him from a young age. His natural talent is minimal. I would complicate the game as much as possible and hope he fails outside of his classically trained comfort zone and misses a tactic.

What single chess video have you found most useful in your development?

Hmm no single video for me, there’s too much to chess for one video. But I get a lot out of
-PowerPlay Chess videos
-ChessBase India videos of OTB games like https://youtube.com/watch?v=csdj0DmrEvA&pp=ygUWQ2hlc3NiYXNlIGluZGlhIG1hZ251cw%3D%3D
-and the old chess24 rapid tournaments, especially during Covid
