Cool card.Way too expensive, but cool.Lorwyn looks good to me so far. Looking forward to drafting it. Been saving up, since I haven't played any UBslop.
Lorwyn Eclipsed (ECL)Released 2026-01-23>>97176697Were there vampires in the previous Lorwyn sets?
>>97176087>They do not care AND they are idiots.Yes, this is becoming clearer every day. WoTC have been the worst custodians of this game imaginable.
Premodern prices on MTGO has got to be the greediest thing I've ever seen
>>97176714this nigga loves deaf owls and trans vampires with down syndrome
>>97176697>Is Lorwyn Eclipsed gonna be good or bad?Worse. It's gonna be d&d slop full of technicolour races that are all the same.
This shit any good? Very good in draft, of course, but in standard?
Anyone play against this guy before? Currently running the clock down lol
>>97176697>How is there a vampire in Lorwynwe've known how for actual years, op
>>97176796We now have TWO cards showing strixhaven students in lorwyn and we've seen less than 30 cards. Is this their way of saying omenpaths are the new way of doing "blocks" over multiple planes?

>>97176801>is this their way of saying omenpaths are the new way of doing "blocks" over multiple planes?again, we've known this for LITERAL years
>>97176817Based. Do they still include books with fatpacks or is that a thing of the past?
>>97176820They didn't neatly lead into the next set quite like this before
>>97176821>Do they still include books with fatpacks or is that a thing of the past? The last fatpack to include a novel was Eventide's, in 2008where the fuck are you people (like >>97176801)popping up from
>both Premodern youtube channels I watch put out a video today after barely having any for monthsPremodern leagues have been another win for Magic I guess
>>97176792Went up against him again lol
>>97176828At least it ended on a good note. On Shadowmoor, really loved the short story format. I can't remember his name, but the story of the cinder fucking up dozens of treefolk before getting snuffed was cool as hell.
reminder that this card is broken
>>97176860I remember playing Shadowverse back in the mid to late 2010s. I got to their highest level even broke the top 1000 once on their leaderboards for whatever that is worth. There was a new set every couple months and new cards that would always be just better than the old cards. So you had to basically put more and more money in every month. They also had a lot of cross promos and anime cards in their game from other series. It all felt very commercial. Like the soul of the game was being sucked out and fucked for money.I thought to myself. I'm glad magic would never sell out like this. I'm glad they've solved power creep at least a little bit. But here we are. Every couple months the next power creep happens, then the next, all to make the line go up. It can only go up so far until people lose interest and just like me with shadowverse they never play again.
>>97176697Every set takes us closer to a reality where traditional deckbuilding focused on card advantage and making hard choices is completely dead in every single format. WotC has made it very clear that if an older card in a format brings out problematic design elements of newer cards, they'll ban the old card to maintain their new agenda for the games playstyle. It's not about wizards casting spells to them, it's a creature dick measuring contest game. Creatures used to just be one part of a larger variety of strategies and compromises. Now there's no compromise because creatures are simply the best, and their supporting permanents can be even more broken because without a statline, at this point, a card can cost anything and do anything for any amount of mana. The power nine are barely fucking impressive at all and in a pre-FIRE modern deck, would be almost completely useless against the sheer value of a current year modern deck or standard deck.
>>97176763Yeah, it's a 2/4 creature tutor for 2 and green. Plus the untapping something for a 1 and a tap isn't bad as well.

>>97176880you'll hear from my lawyer

>>97176842Forgot to screenshot but in the next game, I cast guru, grabbed octopus form, then next turn he tried to kill spell gran gran when I had mana up, and went on another rant about my cheating when I used octopus form.
>>97176719No. Vampires are transformed humans and one of lorwyns unique features was that it didn't have humans. The story of lorqyn eclipsed is that strixhaven students are taking an excursion there leading into the strixhaven set at the end of the year. The focus is the strixhaven students with lorwyn as a backdrop for their conflicts
>>97176860>>97176869Am I getting baited? How is that card broken?
>>97176994Gay as fuck. Ironically the stories were much more interesting when blocks were entirely their own self contained stories.
Firebending works kinda nicely with foretell also. Hmm
>>97176869>my pay to win game was good when it was cheap, but bad when it's expensive :(just print proxies, play with friends, have fun
>>97177296Not really what he said at all. Sometimes, especially when I see a thought out post, I wish the replies actually added to the conversation. Instead its reddit gotchas
>>97177296How did you pull that message from that post?
>>97176697boy i hate omenpaths
>>97176994>The focus is the strixhaven students with lorwyn as a backdrop for their conflictsI've read through the first two sections and am part of the way through the third and this is accurate. It's a very painful read and the first time I've read an MTG story since they were in books form with fat packs. I hate the students. They are painfully stupid with small, pointless lives and goals. Everything feels like a bad collaboration event story where Lorwyn characters and places are merely backdrops for the characters to walk across on the way to their next destination. The brief moments where the students are off screen are better I suppose, but it still has not elevated itself to a passing grade. If I could nit-pick further, the descriptions are very poor and fixate on the wrong subjects. Is this really the best they could do?
>>97177013>>97175191
I've checked prices on singles for TLA and the only cards carrying this set are the badger and the owlwhat a flop
>>97176697I liked Lorwyn's weird one off creatures. Which were your favorite?
>>97176842Hi Deku_Justice
>>97177357sweet jesus that is amazing artthanks for posting it, never seen before
>>97177357I wonder why they named this imp Dieflyn. Apparently its an archaic spelling of Dublin which means black pool. Seems like a name better suited for a black/blue card.
>>97176821>>97176828Erhm, I think you mean "Packages of size". Your language affects people, be responsible with it!We call them "bundles" now, anythoeverwaybeit.
>>97176860Yes, all the pros got it wrong at worlds. They all missed the power of that card. Once it's power is discovered in standard it's only a matter of time for it to warp other formats like modern and legacy. I'd buy copies now, but I'm sure it will be banned once everyone finds out what you know about the card.
>>97177364Isn't black pool just a tarpit? Flaming oil is definietly BR
>>97177391Black pool refers to dark waters like Douglas refers to dark river. I don't think there are any tar rivers.
>>97177312>>97177320Sorry, I didn't read the post properly.
>>97176763Doubt it.
>>97177391Flame on
>>97176994>strixhaven students are in the front, with lorwyn as the backdropSo you can say, Lorwyn has been... Eclipsed
>>97177455Don't worry the students will be eclipsed by the Fomori and Oko, the previous fairy queen's secret brother.
>>97177374This but unironically, the "pros" are too busy shilling, insider trading with wotc and just copy decklists to have something decent to play.
Anyone with time to waste care to take a look at my WIP Vintage Cube for the boys?Definitely taking suggestions for the last 36 cards too if you have any. I haven't played since Mirrodin so I don't know shit. Most of this is from lists already online of cards that do what my friends say they like(d) about Magic.Don't worry about the specific versions, that's just what CubeForge defaulted to. Except the Godzillas. I put those on purpose.https://pastebin.com/h0i3M8iN
>Firebender ascension copy trigger can trigger multiple times in one turn after 4 counters, and retrigger the attack triggers which can trigger the quest counter again which can trigger the copy ability again>it can copy every attack trigger from every creature that is attacking and has an attack trigger>with firebending you literally get fucktons of free mana to cast other spells like extra combats to keep triggering FiAs copy trigger at least twice, granting you even more mana to keep casting spells>paired with Great Train Heist and draw spells you can practically end the game in one turn with one attacking creature>add other type of card that can copy spells>add bolts and removal>you got peak solitaireit's just mouse-cori red cancer all over againyou just can't close the game on t2 anymore
The balance of this game is in shambles, and you have to remember will be even worse with more sets next year.
>>97176714>butterface, girlboss pose, fatCan't we go back to the old, more impressionist art style? New cards look like they based them off real people, ugly ones at that.
>>97177644>fat what
>>97177013There is a resident retard who defines himself by his inability to evaluate cards.
>>97177495Any card that you have to jump through hoops to play is worse then one you don't. Isshin, Two Heavens As One does what Firebender Ascension does without needing FOUR ATTACK TRIGGERS to work at all, and guess what? Completely unplayable in every format.Your card is shit. On the turn it comes down, it's just giving you a 2/2 with nothing else, it forces deckbuilding restrictions by needing lots of creatures with attack triggers, it's takes fucking forever to get online and you have to play a bunch of creatures that suck ass on their own for it to do anything. It's a commanderbait card, nothing more.
Phew, i was worried that we'd be missing a few transwalker here and there, thanks Maro for affirming their stance!

>>97177750I don't know about the fag requirement to be on tumblr. But I trust you, fagxpert, on fag matters like this.
>>97177751You're also worried about shit like male to female planeswalker ratios, Magic's 'lore' and write deranged brainrot like "transwalker" so I'd say you've got a good grip on fag matters. Have some confidence.

>>97178610No, you're missing the point.>New cards look like they base them off real peopleA significant aspect of impressionism was that they looked more like real scenes than idealized versions. At best it's a huge misunderstanding of impressionism, at worst it's a cowardly attempt to mask your real complaints with something that sounds more agreeable. Just look up "impressionism nude" and you'll see pages of fat butterfaces (poses vary). If your issue with the art is that she isn't fuckable enough, at least have the spine to say it out loud.

The Skrull and Symbiote types would seem to be an indication that they have abandoned the type permanently, even in UB sets, but sadly, they did make a single Alien tribal card, so some dipshit redditor is going to complain about not having any new Aliens for his EDH deck until they inevitably bring it back.

Vast majority of cards are draft chaff and a good number of them aren't even good for that either. The only place any of the bad cards have is in Draft where it might be what actually wins the game for you or any single-block or single-set formats. All formats always turn out to be just the absolute best cards available because there is ZERO attempt to balanced between blocks and certainly no attempts whatsoever to balance between sets in the entirety of MTG history. Draft is the closest thing to a balanced format for MTG.

>>97182701>game of diplomacyRichard Garfield's ideas are hit and miss, but his assertion that a "game" about politics is not actually a game was spot the fuck on.
>>97182701>>97182723"In my experience critiquing games, the concept that has caused themost dispute is politics. I refer to a game as political if it hasmore than two players, or sides, and during a significant portion ofthe game the other players could agree to make you lose. Two-sidedgames, like Magic, chess, bridge, and basketball, are never political.Right now my study of political games is riddled with judgement calls, making it far from precise. For example, Yahtzee is a game for morethan two players that isn't particularly political: I could win evenif everyone else decides I shouldn't. RISK is highly political, however, since one person cannot expect to beat the rest of theplayers allied together unless they account for less than half thepower in the game. There are some good things about political games. Any player usuallyhas a chance to catch up, no matter how far behind he or she might be.A political game is as deep as the players wish to make it: simple andstraightforward, or convoluted and laden with conspiracy. That said, I lean towards games where politics take a back seat. Ihaven't always felt that way, but over the years I have found thatwhen I played games with a strong political component, the game itselfdidn't matter much.Playing Nicely With Others--------------------------There is a wide array of opinions, often passionate, about the role ofpolitics in games, with equally intelligent folk at all extremes. Most people who have played a lot have had some good experiences withpolitical games. It is always hard to draw conclusions from past gameexperience, though, because good players can make any game fun.Similarly, it is hard to determine whether a political game is itselfat fault or if the players aren't playing well. When someone isalways whining about being behind, is that a problem with the playeror the game?
>>97182755Players often increase their enjoyment of political games byestablishing unwritten rules of conduct. I know circles where whiningis punished by group attacks. Other groups forbid negotiations, oronly allow players to exert limited influence. Players are commonlyexpected to maximize their personal position even when they have nochance of winning. Often it is difficult to figure out exactly whatthe rules are, and playing around on the boundary of what isacceptable is risking group displeasure. When the game depends onunwritten rules, I usually credit the players with creating a lot ofthe fun, rather than the game. There is a lot of potential for abuse in games where players can traderesources freely, since two players who cannot win individually couldflip a coin and give the winner all their pooled resources to create asingle viable position. To prevent such abuse, groups sometimesoutlaw coin flips or random decisions, but players can stillcircumvent such efforts b alternating the "winner" between games or bydeveloping understandings. For example, if John is out of the runningin this game and gives me good trades or gifts, he will get reciprocalconsideration in the future.
>>97182759Bad Games and Good Politics---------------------------Many features crop up frequently in political games that I considerbad game elements. A major part of the strategy in a political gameis to draw attention to other people's positions and attempt to playthem off against one another. One of the easiest ways to do this isto take a weak position. This may not immediately appear to be bad,but the implications are profound: if you _choose_ a weak position, then it is not actually weak. And if weak positions really have thesame power, then how you play the game doesn't make much difference. What really matters is how you play the players, whether the game isRISK or Family Business. One of the most unpleasant features of a political game is what Irefer to as kingmaking. Kingmaking happens when a player who has nochance of winning can choose who does win. This holds some charm forbeginners, because being a kingmaker allows revenge against irritatingplayers, and justifies diplomacy - the winner is chosen by someoneelse. The advanced player tends to dislike kingmaking, though, because it trivializes the time spent playing. The longer the gamegoes on, the more irksome is such an ending.Another depressing thing about many political games is the way theyencourage passive play. If attacking another player costs me and myopponent resources, then there is a strong incentive to sit back andlet other people fight. Games that have this characteristic can be alot of fun if some of the players ignore this and attack anyway, butare real drag if everyone sees waiting as a disadvantage. How manytimes have you seen one player get sick of doing nothing and say,"Well, I have to be going, so I have to attack"? Boredom should notbe an incentive for conflict in a game.
>>97182755His is confirmed to be a smart man.Misguided in some of his design pursuits, but at least capable of thinking through his goals.Unlike some people.
>>97182762It is a good exercise to evaluate the effect of politics on gamesinvolving more than two sides. This can be quite a challenge, andpeople who meet it often come out with a different perspective on thegames they play. The result for me was discovering that mostpolitical games were, underneath the veneer, the same game, and that Iwas tired of playing that game."-- Richard Garfield, The Duelist, June 1997

>>97182925Just spitting facts.MTG writing ranges from simply abhorrent to morally abominable literary atrocities.
>>97182871MtG writing has consistently been an afterthought if even that, and it has always showed in the quality. WotC's writing is consistently in the realm of Potential Man where the setting has a lot going on then the story is the most atrocious dogshit you ever read and only moves forward because everyone involved (including the allegedly smart characters) acts like a retard. For context, the way Weatherlight (which many consider the best story arc in Magic's history) concluded was Guff changing the future to guarantee heroes win. Despite this happening, and Urza knowing this happened, Urza gives up right at the end and gets his head cut off (WotC retroactively tried to justify this 3 times). Then, AFTER getting his head cut off, Urza's severed head exposits that actually the whole time Karn was a superweapon capable of oneshotting Yawgmoth and all they needed to do was plug the batteries into him. (The batteries being Urza's laser eyes which everyone naturally had the whole time).
>>97182950>then the story is the most atrocious dogshit you ever readpretty much sums it up
>>97182871>Is this the usual standard of MTG writing or is it exceptional in its poor form?>That one time the BBEG built infinitely useful interplanar infrastructure for her enemies, altered all the armies of the most powerful villain faction in MTG lore to die instantly the instant she died, then got into a fight and didn't defend herself and died like a moron bringing all of Phyrexia, a three-decades-old beloved villain faction of the setting, with her.No actually the nuLorwyn story so far is fucking Tolkein compared to the shit MTG usually gets.

>>97183214Yes, the hole in the multiverse universally described as simply something you can regularly waltz through without any additional magical effort, and it leads you directly to where you were going with said mundane effort. The Omenpaths require no special knowledge to traverse. Nothing within the lore, other than pure handwave fiat, is stopping Valgavoth from expanding his house through them.
>>97183229Omenpaths are variously stable or unstable. There are consistent, never closing omenpaths (the majority of the ones used during the aetherdrift race), omenpaths that open and close in a predictable fashion like tidal zones (some other aetherdrift race tracks), and those that open spontaneously but close just as quickly (these let the mad max morons flood into the race).Valgavoth is at the point where he can only very briefly create one of the third kind, but obviously as the narrative requires, he might get an “upgrade” to create more permanent pathways. If this is the case though, the heroes are just going to find a way to cut off omenpaths, basically amputating the “limb” before it takes over another plane. However, besides a debate about portal logic and power scaling, there are a few reasons I think this would be dumb.1. Valgavoth already has a near-infallible grasp on his plane, and potential for serious outside interference as it stands is basically zero (especially with planeswalkers becoming such a rarity)2. Valgavoth already had a fully functioning ecosystem in his plane before the omenpaths allowed him to start being more aggressive in his “farming” and wouldn’t need to make the farm any bigger3. Despite turning an entire plane into his personal mental rape and breeding camp, basically no interplanar force cares enough to oppose him, and invading other planes would draw all ire towards him

The entire plot of duskmourn was him trying to learn about as many planes as possible to expand his hunting grounds. An invasion into another plane as such would be a costly endeavor and one he would be unlikely to try without an almost full guarantee of success. And like I said, they might bend the rules for the sake of the narrative, but that wouldn’t make it a consistent or satisfying choice. Already a lot of the tonal stuff with duskmourn is all over the place, like them somehow being permitted to participate in the Whacky Races for a spark despite it being well known that the plane is run by an insane demon.

>>97183108>CitiesI've asked Usea numerous times to update his but he hasn't yet. Maybe soon. People went for the 7th edition foil when he released it so I think people care less about the original art which sucks. To be clear, I have them in hand and they are too red overall.>Swords>White is by far the trickiest colour. there has been several attempts at expensive white foils, academy rector, menges StP, etc. and they all look "decent" but not accurate. og white foiling is extremely bright, whereas usea's attempts are quite dull with too much of the frame texture showing through and darkening the foiling effect.Summarizes it well. I think his white and blue foils need the most improvement; foil MMQ Brainstorm is great and actually does have the white frame highlights but most other blue cards lack them.>>97183357Ask Roland. I get the impression it was more of a just for fun deck given that Burning Wish isn't exactly stock in Grow.
>>97183300Much easier to read thank you. Some ideas:>More blue creatures usually I go for about 40-50% creatures even for blue>A few ideas: thieving magpie, omenspeaker, mist raven, mulldrifter, draining whelk, torrential gearhulk>Include all the titans>You have lots of planeswalkers which is fine could be good to include pithing needle, phyrexian evoker, and vampire hexmage for extra answers>There are other cards ask yourself what archetypes you want to support in the cube and add to support them
