>>97182523I like Dungeon Meshi's solution that dungeons spontaneously create themselves in areas of high magic.
>>97182538Wrong response. You're supposed to give a backstory about an individual named Whi.
>>97182545A lot of different anime series have that kind of system. Like they are some spontaneous expression of mana in a region, or they are some kind of other dimensional tunnel between worlds, or something the gods whip up to trap demons in an area.
>>97182553Ask chat gpt if you want backstory slop.
>>97182545>spontaneously create themselvesread the manga
>>97182545This is what I really hate about Anime fantasy these days. They just have such a blunt video game out look on things. It's never a forgotten tomb of some long dead king, it's never an abandoned tunnel system of the dwarves. It's also>There's a dungeon because there needs to be and adventurer is just a job anyone can get.
>>97182523>>97182545We didn't build the dungeon. It was always building since the world was turning.
>>97183083We built this dungeon on rock and roll.
>>97183083Someone needs to make an anime about a dungeon safety inspector.
>>97182523>Who built this dungeon?>Yes.>I mean the fellow’s name who was contracted to build it.>Who.>The fellow who built the dungeon.>Who built the dungeon.>Well, what are you askin’ me for?
>>97182523dungeons are advanced loosh farms with treasure as bait, the evil entities that build them don't give a fuck about the treasure but they do give a fuck about fresh souls coming in to die and get trapped there, it's a casino where you gamble with your soul in exchange for riches and magic.
>>97182545That sounds fucking retarded
>>97182523>We built this dungeon!>We built this dungeon with rock and stone!
>>97183168>What's the guys name who built this dungeon?>No, What's the name of the dragon that lives inside>I'm not asking you who's the dragon>Who built the dungeon>I don't know!>That's the goblin king. We're not talking about him

Well, most people have forgotten about it but the sun went dark for a couple of centuries and the surface was a frozen wasteland. In order to survive everyone went underground. Some more advanced civz moved whole cities, stone by stone below the surface. What used to be some caves and mines with the odd dwarven stronghold here and there became all that is. Trade routes were established, temples were build even shipyards and harbours in order to cross the massive underground lakes. The gods eventually took pity on us and the sun shone bright again and with time the age of darkness has been almost completely forgotten. So there, now you have your answer. We built the dungeons.>But that is just Arx Fatalis!Yes.
>>97182553I second this idea. Tell us more about Whi you lazy git. Lets see you answer a question fo once. Come on, use YOUR imagination, you might like it.
>>97183819Oh shit a Donjon reference>>97182523To answer OP's question: Donjon is a French comic book series https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/ComicBook/DungeonTwilight whose starting point is life in a megadungeon and its management. The dungeon is built to attract and trap adventurers in order to steal their loot. The story expands to a completely crazy fantasy epic, which I'm not getting into, but that's the explanation for why the dungeon exists in the first place.
>>97183926I second reading the reply to the post you upvoted.
>>97183309>>97183056Don't worry, Dungeon Meishi also thinks that's retarded because that's not true. It does even have the Dwarven tunnel system thing, that's how the main Dwarf got in, his original party was trying to raid the tomb from underground.

It's a fantasy setting so you can rest assured the world has gone through its share of apocalypses, Ragnaröks, and raptures.People built strongholds to survive them, often not surviving despite the effort. This also explains why they are full of treasures and traps. Attempts to hold the darkness at bay.Outside of that people still build tombs, prisons, etc.

>>97182523Dungeons are in fact part of the life cycle of the humble mimic. A dungeon can be separated into discrete sections, which are called Tiles due to an antiquated form of dungeon mapping. Each of these Tiles is in fact an elder mimic in the final stage of its lifecycle. Mimics prefer dwelling in caves or other areas protected from direct sunlight. A dungeon often begins with a simple cave and a chest(mimic) hidden in a nook, luring in treasure seekers. Once the mimic has absorbed enough nutrients it will embed itself within the earth or stone, similar to weaving a cocoon, the mimic will metamorphosize itself, and the surrounding stone, into a larger edifice, to provide a more tantalizing presentation for its bait. How mimics gain their aesthetic sense is unknown at this time. The mimic will then bud, producing more mimics. Which in turn mature becoming a new edifice, and in doing so form a symbiotic bond with the pre-existing Tiles. Becoming a vast interconnected single organism. Which is how dungeons are born.
>>97184679At first these dungeons will attract wandering creatures through some form of pheromone, like a pitcher plant. Providing protection to its core aspect, and passive sustenance from the detritus and remains from these creatures. However once a dungeon has advanced enough, its ability to mimic other lifeforms matures and the dungeon is able to produce false creatures under its direct influence. Most notable is the "Dungeon Boss". Kept within the deepest part of the dungeon, it is the final guardian for the aforementioned core aspect. This dungeon core, is the central repository for the dungeon's awareness and magic. Should the Boss be defeated the dungeon, as a defensive posture, will regurgitate a large quantity of valuable materials to distract the potential threat. Dungeons can feed on the ambient energy of magical items, which will often be found in this treasured ambergris alongside precious metals like gold and silver which are believed to be indigestible material. Some dungeons at this point will seemingly collapse, but this is a deception. The Dungeon as a final defensive posture recedes into the Earth and enters into a period of hibernation. Only to re-emerge decades later, when the threat and even knowledge of its existence has long passed.
