Besides Middle Earth, are there setting with a monotheistic God but has powerful deity like entities who may or not be worshiped?
>>97183250Narnia
>>97183400I walked into that one....
Does Takahashi still draw girl's feet as cute as she does in Ranma?
>>97183250Warhammer 40K?
>>97183400>>97183416To be fair, it actually does fulfill your requirement of godlike beings. Didn't the Calormen have Tash?
>>97183250Traditional games?
>>97183455To be fairwoosh goes his pun flying past you as you fail to catch it.
>>97183400Come to think of it, Narnia is a rare setting for games.I wonder why?
>>97183250Marvel Multiverse.
>>97183858Because it's not really a setting.
>>97183923>Cap was unironically correct when he told Thor he only knows one god and he doesn't look like that
>>97183250Forgotten Realms has Overgod Ao and Dragonlance has the nameless High God. They may or may not be the same entity.
>>97183455Calormen did indeed have Tash, although he is literally just the Devil wearing a funny hat. This ties into Lewis' theology that most 'pagan gods' are just Lucifer in drag or blackface.
>>97183947It's weird how even the super anti-christian writers always eventually gravitate to "There is one God above all gods who directs the setting"
>>97183991Every classic D&D setting has a singular "Overdeity" as the term was coined in either 2e or 3e.
>>97183250Does the Cosmere, where said god broke into pieces but is worshipped by some anyway, count?
>>97183991>>97186611If you worship him, don't you get sent to like an eternal torture dimension or something?
>>97186607>It's weird how even the super anti-christian writers always eventually gravitate to "There is one God above all gods who directs the setting"No it's not, they're mostly jews; they just think it's Satan.
>>97186673Yes, but that's largely because Ao doesn't want to be worshipped. 99% sure it's because having the one and only actual God on your side would be OP as fuck and doesn't work with the system. If the other gods can be removed willy nilly why even bother unless the real one insists you do, for gameplay reasons.
>>97187853>He's beyond the alignment system!>He also ruthlessly enforces the rules and makes sure everyone follows their correct roles and prevents evil deities from destroying the world.
>>97186607Because that's actually a very, veyr old and pre-christian idea. In fact, every single religion throughout history has had some form of "primordial unity". The Christians were not unique in that regard.
>>97183250World of Darkness.
>>97183250Forgotten Realms. Possibly also Greyhawk, depending on how you interpret Saint Cuthbert's inclusion into it.
>>97183250Yeah, mine. After I finished reading the Silmarillion I stole that idea for my world, having plenty of standard fantasy gods, & one secret God of gods. I'd describe it to my players as "gods are always depicted shrouded in light, know now that it isn't them that produce that light, it is Him standing behind & over the,, the true Lord of lords watching over the gods themselves that frames them in their purpose". Because I'm conceited I also gave him my own initials, it fits fine enough.
