I figure that if one was running a more orthodox game, it would be like having an entire party of nobles politicking and scheming with plenty of medieval courtly intrigue, before deploying out to stomp down entire armies. In comparison, most of our campaign was spent in dark heresy as literal nobodies scrounging for ammo and a place to stay before we discovered a lost house of knights, but when we finally suited up, we went from zero to 200 in a lance of robots straight out of pacific rim. After struggling to survive in a fight for your life, suddenly you're an invincible monster heroically charging forward and slaying superheavies and biotitans. It was a fucking rush.

How is the Horus Heresy presented to the plebs? Obviously they know it happened but the existence of traitor marines is a closely guarded secret as is the existence of the ruinous powers. So do they basically get the 2nd edition version when Horus was a mortal general whose Imperial Army troops betrayed the emperor? I know he's generally shown as a dragon being slain by the emperor.I only mention it because I was going to include a medieval style mystery play and was wondering how far to go propaganda wise i.e having the emperor pushing child Horus on a swing or having his minions on the vengeful spirit being auxila mooks while the emperor is flanked by dudes in foam Imperial Fist outfits etc

>>97188250You can corrupt the story quite a bit as long as the gist is "emperor good and horus bad". Do some funnies like mix up IF and custodes since both would be yellow or change characters around like angron and magnus being swapped because someone fucked up hard on the record keeping.
>>97188250>>97188463To expand more on my suggestion, imagine if nobody on the planet had forbidden lore (horus heresy) and instead relied upon common lore (imperial creed) or scholastic lore (legend) and all the books got rewritten a few times and whoever was in charge of remembering everything to the letter got a few blows to the head in a fight spanned over thousands of years.
Intending on bringing in the Kabal of Crimson Woes from DH1e’s Purge the Unclean. Given how weak they are in that book and how they get no respect in the Expanse I imagine they’re kind of a joke. How can I make them “weak” without making them too comedic? So far I have their Archon wield two Venomblades but with no venom because he just puts his own blood in instead. Came up with it cos I saw someone’s megaedgy DEldar OC have a vampire theme and so I wanted to take the piss out of it.
>>97185928I did in DH 1st ed, twice my players did so, once was with a psyker, which ended up having them attack the psyker as he rolled a 9.Seocnd was when a new PC joined in, an Arbitrator, so I had them get the inter-departmental team (or something). It mostly ended up with them having access to talents and skills they would have never gotten normally.

The ability to share reactions is insanely useful for staying alive, especially if you have sneaky boys who can serve as reaction batteries for the rest of the team. The amount of work I have to do to get a Fate burn out of these guys is absurd.
