Moloch's Fun Park Edition>What is Trench Crusade? An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game still in a pre-release playtesting phase but with the full release slated for this year. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, it's awesome, and it's very Blanchitsu.>What Trench Crusade is notTC not an excuse for you to discuss IRL religion, history that didn't occur in the game, culture war shit, or discord bullshit on /tg/. Keep it on topic.>What's the QRD on the background? The Knights Templar turned heretic and opened the Gates of Hell when they took Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Over 800 years later the war is still ongoing as technology has developed to a pseudo diesel-punk WW1 standard and a third of Humanity has sided with the Infernal Princes.>How do I get started? All the files are free online:https://www.trenchcrusade.com/rules/They used to be split between the website and the discord, but no more. For posterity's sake, the old mega will still be kept active even if it's unlikely to need updating: https://mega.nz/folder/70QH0BBa#Eg-blxYQKkY_C02wErnFTQ>third party sources for making trenchers:https://pastebin.com/YzXPVUAc>Trench Compendiumhttps://trench-companion.com/>Previous Thread:>>97121172>Thread QuestionWhat faction do you prefer? Fluff-wise or crunch-wise.
Newfag here. Are there non-Christian based factions? Muslims, Hindus, anything?
>>97190116Iron Sultanate is a Muslim faction. Hindus aren't in the game.
>>97190126gotcha, thanks anon
>>97190110>TQSo far my favourite, both lore wise and gameplay wise, is New Antioch. I like the idea of the European nations banding up to fight the Demonic hordes. I wish things in lore were a bit more desperate so that it would make sense why they work together. Of the sub factions I love the gameplay of the Prussians and I have only played one match with Eire but they were quite cool as well all though it almost felt cheap playing as them.
>>97164930Baphomet apparently births its own spawn, who are themselves a big deal. So maybe its faction would just be an army of its own kids and their kids and so on.
>>97190191Instead of equipment you could instead apply mutations to your spawn; such as poison damage, flight, reach, spore grenades and such. It could work as a weird iteration of Zerg/Tyranids, instead of captains you'd have "Daughters of Baphomet" that can spawn in weak cannon fodder units
>>97190116Muslim faction exists. Jews in the future.
>>97190116God I wish we had zoroastrians
>>97190275They could exist in India, or hide in sultanate lands. Zoroastrianism has enough similarities to abrahamic faiths, that it fits in.
I am quite miffed that out of the great Catholic nations (Spain, France and Italy), we only get Papal States, when the game so obviously bases so much of its imagery on Catholicism, while we get Eire, Alba and England at the same time.Particularly Spain, the OG century-long crusaders. One would think one faction for the British Isles would suffice while the mainland is so underdeveloped. This reeks of protestants being jelly of Catholic aesthetics.
>>97190116The factions are based on Abrahamic faith, at least thus far.>>97189802>there’s no overall objectively ‘best’ or ‘worst’>does not play Iron SultanateI do, and having gone up against 3/4ths of the other factions, I can say that IS simply lacks the breadth of options others have, which leads to being outclassed even at their strengths. It has lead to some real problems especially in late campaigns where better gear becomes more common on the field.Siege jezzails simply do not save you.
How did the Black Grail fare in 1.0, lads?
>>97191088IMW, middle high.Durable, and dangerous as hell if they close the gap.
>>97191088They're quite solid, with the caveat that they can be countered with FIRE and the ability to cause/resist FEAR.While every warband will have counters, the main issue is every BG warband has the same counters and they can't be worked around in the builder.
>>97190328Well I don’t think Al-Andalus is a thing in the TC world, but the game is still young. What distinctive abilities or traits would you assign a Spanish faction?
>>97190341IS house of wisdom is on my list to print and play next so I guess I’ll find out..
This game lacks the special sauce 40k had with it's lore, honestly using a Mordheim type skirmish system feels disjointed considering the kind of setting/atmosphere it's going for. They need to really clean up if they do a second edition as this current glazing/toxic positivity, much of the fanbase and peers in the industry are doing doesn't help fix some very glaring flaws. I'm not saying to be a super negative Nancy but this hostility to noticing issues isn't very productive either.
>>97190110>Which faction do you preferHonestly I kinda like all of them, though I think I'm leaning most towards Heretic Legion currently. I wish there was a faction more about using magic like the Court, but that was more humanoid/human focused. I like Goetic spells but them all coming from big monsters and not robed wizard cultists is kind of a pain point for me
I've been digibashing my northern hellgate heretics. I think I need to look for more accessories to make them look more satanic.
>>97191580By 1099, the Christian kingdoms controlled more than half of the Peninsula, so between that, the gates opening & the Iron Sultanate, Al-Andalus should have collapsed sooner than c.XIII.Spain ought to have 2 lists, one of fanatics, another of mobile, lightly armoured medium range infantry. The former should favour a cheap melee-oriented style, slow and without armour, only the elite units having access to standard armour at best, with the ability to remove blood counters easily, capirotes for everyone & can hire Witch Burners cheaply. The latter should be medium range, decent melee, lightly armoured though not as much, standard armour is more readily available. No long range whatsoever. Any mercenaries BUT Witch Burners.Units:-Dogs- cheap, unarmoured. More available to the non-fanatics. -1 melee dice of opponent if engaging alongside other units.-Tercio- average mook, can equip Polearms, Swords, Muskets, Blunderbusses, Shotguns, Troop Flag. No armour, standard an option but costlier than usual. Defense bonus when standing in groups larger than 4, (including Diestros&Knights).-Diestro- swordsman, good offence but no armour, reduces the melee dice of whoever attacks him. Carries Misericordia.-Nazareno- cheap, either melee oriented or shit short range, no armour, improves with blood counters, bonus versus demons. Can carry Flamethrowers.-Doctor- removes INFECTION markers in a large area by doubling the number of such markers on one nearby unit.-Knight of Calatrava/Alcantara/St.James- armour, 0-2, can be built for medium range or decent melee, depending on the flavour gets bonuses vs non-Christians, or hell mooks, or hell elites.-Inquisitor- 0-1, best gear in the team, flexible to build. Provides bonus against other Christian factions (false converts?).-Procession of St.Mary- large 0-1, powers up every human around it other than the Inquisitor&Knights (see worship of Mary as close to heresy), the more of the warband dies the better the power up.
>>97191875I have the opposite feeling, I feel reinvigorated like with the pre-6th 40k lore. And very much appreciate the small scale of the game, it lends itself well to the feeling of fog of war and behind the lines actions. Could grow a bit but wouldn't take it past the 20 models per side mark.
>>97193427I'm not trying to be a hater but I'm also not sold either. I'd like to see how the game is after a few years, to see if it matures well.
>>97190110Are there any RPG's with a dice system like trench crusades? 2d6 + modifier dice dropping/adding the highest, getting 7+ is a really fun base mechanic. You get the feeling of something extreme with a handful of dice, but it doesn't get to the point where you are chucking annoying amounts.
>>97193675Old school White Wolf games are pretty close. Steve Jackson’s ‘In Nomine’ is a thematic match (PCs and NPCs are angels or demons incarnated on earth). It uses a 3d6 resolution mechanic in which triple 1’s show divine intervention (good for angelic players, bad for demonics) and triple 6’s involves satanic intervention (bad for angelics, good for demonics).Instead of classes your character is a member of a ‘choir’ of angels, with specific powers, devoted to a specific archangel, or a ‘band’ of demons whose powers are corrupted versions of angelic powers, and who are devoted to to a specific fallen angel. In terms of powers, for instance, Kyriotate angels don’t manifest physically but instead ‘possess’ people (usually in despair or on the point of self harm) but are obligated to leave their hosts better off than when the Kyriotate took them over.Their fallen counterparts are the Shedim, who prefer to take over nonhuman hosts such as swarms of insects or rats, and must leave them worse off. Fun system. On topic: just got done printing and curing the ‘church accessory’ sprues. Lots of greebles.
>>97191969Very nice. Don't forget you could always just paint satanic symbols on them, giving you more options than something hard-printed onto the mini.>>97182294Very cool mockup.>Does anyone know any good wedding dress and/or pregnant woman type mini's for other Nuns?Reaper has a metal Ghost Bride. They also have a few nun minis. Searching for 'dress' gets you a variety of dresses that you could use.
>>97193406I see what you’re going for but there are a lot of very powerful and synergising abilities in there. Good flavour but may need dialling back. Dogs should apply -1D to enemies only if 2 or more are in melee with a single target.Doctor lacks utility, better to have a generic ‘risky action to remove 1 infection or wound marker’, but give him an acid grenade (counts as Fire).
>>97190110>TQSo far I've played 7 games, 5 with Sultanate and 2 with Court and I prefer Court, seems more difficult but more rewarding.First Court game I got tabled because I didn't understand what I was supposed to be doing. Second game I turned on the blood factory, rolled hot and absolutely demolished my opponent. Sadly my Praetor rolled 11 on injury and died (RIP 241 ducats).Fluff-wise the allahu akbars are still my favorite, love me some homunculi, but they feel maybe a bit simple to play.
>>97174488I've been playing as Court in a campaign game recently and I am genuinely amazed the left hand path hunter is still as broken as it was on releaseWe've homebrewed a rule change where it can only teleport to a spot it can actually see and it is still hilariously broken>Oh just focus it downSure if it somehow finds itself in a bad position you can try to focus it down, it is not like Court has a bunch of high-armor high-threat monsters that are going to tear you apart. And even then if you happen to get a crit or hit it with something big it just nullifies the wound
>>97175256>>97175277I feel your pain anon, I have a guy like that in my battletech/TC group, the only "advice" I can give is to tell him to stop playing like his life is on the line and if that fails and you stop having fun playing against him just stop playing with him.
>>97190328>One would think one faction for the British Isles would sufficeNonsense, clearly we need a new welsh-based NA subfaction after the 7th Prussian box is dropped. The thing with subfactions is that they generally take the nation most general historical-stereotypes and build on them. Spain has 2 historical elements that even the greatest mouth-breather know about it: Conquistadores and Inquisition. The former goes away because America was never conquered and the latter eats at the heels of the trench pilgrims. Also Spain is unfortunately just not as popular or well known internationally as Ireland / Scotland / England / Prussia>>97193406I like it overall but I agree with >>97194221 that you should dial some of the buffs back. Other than that I would just allow the Tercio to take bolt-action rifles. Also maybe do not allow the knights and inquisitor to benefit from the procession for different fluff reasons. Processions happen in Spain during Holy Week but I would not say we worship Mary the same way we worship Jesus.
>>97190237This is already covered by house of wisdom
>>97194221Yeah, obviously that was just some quick 5-minute brainstorm, would need refinement. The idea I was going for is that the fanatics would be a large team of shit guys with little armour, following a procession, that if not killed outright, can withstand the pain. Possibly include ways of activating in groups to save the opponent from having to wait 40 minutes til you are done. And the more professional force, while possibly more numerous than usual, would not reach the numbers of the fanatics, would have reduced synergies, and would benefit from sticking together.>>97195308Historically, at some points the strong worship of Mary was considered heresy, look up collyridianism. And there is one such heresy in Spain, the Palmarians. It isn't a stretch to think that the more theologically educated would be somewhat taken aback by an overly zealous popular cult. But anyway, this faction need not be "just Spain", could be concocted to represent more western/southern Catholics, including French, Portuguese, Maltese...It's just weird that you get so many factions for the anglosphere and so little for the Mediterraneans when the imagery is driven by Catholic aesthetics.
>>97195441>there is one such heresy in Spain, the PalmariansI had no idea this was a thing, I will look into it.>It's just weird that you get so many factions for the anglosphere and so little for the Mediterraneans when the imagery is driven by Catholic aesthetics.Absolutely, but again I feel this is a combination of popular knowledge and WW1 history.People only care for Italian and Spanish history for romans and conquistadores respectively. Spain was not a part of WW1 and even though Italy fought in WW1 it has a popular history of military incompetence (that arguably does not apply to WW1), same with austria-hungary to a degree.France is the one I find most egregious, they were a crucial aspect of the crusades, one of the main players in WW1 and massively catholic
>>97191592>>97191592From what I have heard, HoW is the top IS list due to having the best gear options and not losing any of the better units.Let us know!
