Why is it so common for fantasy rpgs that try to do the "Deep Lore" stuff to always default to Gnosticism or H.P. Lovecraft in a trench coat?
Can you name some examples or did you just make something up and get mad about it again?
>>97209048White Wolf's games and the Elder Scrolls are two big ones that grab a ton of pop culture gnosticism, and D&D has been injecting more Lovecraftian things with each edition in an effort to not just be a ripoff of Sword and Sorcery pulps.
>>97209182Injecting Lovecraft makes them MORE like Sword and Sorcery pulps, not less.
>>97209182>D&D has been injecting more Lovecraftian things with each edition in an effort to not just be a ripoff of Sword and Sorcery pulpsIf anything it's the opposite since lovecraft monsters and sword and sorcery are things that mix pretty frequently>see: conan tripping over horrors every other story
>>97208974Lovecraft is both popular and good, and gnosticucks will project Gnostic themes onto literally everything because it's the only non-major religion they're familiar with.
>>97208974What, you expecting Buddhism or something?
>>97209182Elder Scrolls is not gnosticism, what are you on?
>>97209411>>97209411It isThe deep lore of the elder scrolls have the Anu/Padomaic faiths: while elves want to return to a state of grace that existed before the creation the men (generally) embrace creation in the figure of the trickster God Lorkhan. That being said, it is Elder scrolls lore is awesome

>>97208974Gnosticism is gay. Hermeticism is where it's at.
>>97213980Second for Hermeticism. Marxist thinking is what is wrong with everything in the world. We must return to the Hegelian dialectic.
>>97208974Star Ocean 3 did "The universe is a simulation" and everyone hated it.
>>97209182>>97209186>>97209192Lovecraft and Howard were friends and put references to each other's works in their worlds, sword and sorcery is inherently tied to Lovecraftian fiction
>>97208974Name twenty five examples.
>>97209182First off, White Wolf is Luciferianism. It even pointed it out in Demon: The Fallen. Everything was because Lucifer loved humanity more than God.So yeah, your wrong.>>97209186This is fact. The only difference between Sword and Sorcery and Lovecraft is who wins the battles.>>97209201Buddhism is Gnosticism, just for East Asia.>>97210777This is also fact.>>97216488And you are such a fag that you made you number so high as to be pointless. You already know you are wrong. Now, you just have to admit your love of sucking cock and you can be like Destiny.
I like how Gregg Stafford subverted this and turned it on its head in Glorantha. The "deep lore" is basically a constructed mono-myth by neo-platonic atheistic sorcerers, in reality it is the viewer who constructs reality through faith and actions by re-enacting "mythical" actions. Its Jung and Eliade pilled and closer to how humanity has viewed the myths in history and much less positivist (ala Lovecraft), "this is the way the world is constructed" while still having some basic cosmological rules. The Lunars are the most strange because there is no real life earth analogue for their extreme theological syncretism, maybe the Innana Ishtar cult of the ancient near east would be the closest analogue or Hindu Shaktism. However it I have not seen much comparison between Glorantha and the Lovecraft mythos and its funny because Chaosium has owned both games. Maybe Lovecraft's Dreamlands and Clark Ashton Smith influenced some of Glorantha.
