I understand how counterspells works, why they are in the game, the cards they keep in check, the strategies to play with/against counterspells, etc...Counterspells can even be fun to play against. Learning to dance to the tempo of the counterspell, strategizing resource management, knowing when to be aggressive, which order to play your cards in, how to bait out a counterspell, etc...What I don't like it twofold:1) Total lockout. I don't like games where each turn is "Draw card, play land, throw my countered spell into the graveyard, pass turn, watch clock, struggle to retain my sanity as my opponent just counterspelled eight times in a row and I have nothing on board and the cards in hand cost too much mana."2) F.I.R.E./UB/Commanderification of Magic game-balance. This is just powercreep. It makes counterspells feel even worse in three ways.-1a} Counterspells cost too much & do too little when my opponent's creatures all have an ETB/LTB/Attack-trigger and they are going to out value anything I can put onto the board if I actually keep mana open for the counterspell. Counterspells become categorically useless if all it takes is for my opponent to win to get one creature onto the board. This "Counterspell/Remove-this or ELSE YOU DIE" F.I.R.E. design for creatures is awful and has turned MtG into Yugioh where you just vomit all your resources onto the table (solitaire style) and try to bludgeon your opponent to death before they can respond.-2b} Tempo doesn't work when Wotc prints uber-value permanents that draw-all-the-cards, make-a-zillion-tokens, and remove-all-enemy-creatures. If the counterspell-player breaks the draw-parity with some BS permanent that draws all the cards forever... There's no point for the opponent to continue to play. It's not earned, it feels underhanded.

But game-balance/design-wise, CS need to have built-in limitations on what they can counter so that the Blue player doesn't just have all-the-answers-forever-and-ever... And the creatures/other-permanents need to have their value toned down so that failing to remove one creature doesn't mean that you will automatically lose. Games are much more fun when the balance between decks is a close parity and there can be a variety of play-styles.Wotc/Hasbro have screwed up MtG game balance so badly between 2019 and now.
