What are the funniest wargame mechanics you've ever encountered?

in 1e 40k, tents had a 1/6 chance of blocking missile attacks

Gaslands' Max Carnage rule. Basically, whenever something ambiguous happens or there's a rules dispute, instead of just rolling a die for it you choose the option that would result in maximum total damage to everyone involved.

100%, no competition, motherfucking cannonball bounce rods.

Back when people were retarded, we used to to get dowel rods and paint them with black and white stripes, stripes starting thick on one end and thin on the other. When you fired a cannon, you'd have to line up the rod where you shot, and any units on the black stripes would get hit, while the white white area meant the ball bounced too high to hit them.

that is based

Ah yes, the "Everything is a TPK, RAW" rule.
Someone actually thought that would be a good idea.

God I remember building a car to generate as much stress as possible with the "add stress as attack dice on collisions" skill. Slime was fucked.

In Necromunda, the Cawdor Gang have a set of ambiguously supernatural prayers they can invoke for special effects mid game. Most of these are rolled to see if they activate at the beginning of the turn. One of them, however, grants extra jumping distance, as the Ganger beseeches the Emperor for the power of flight. This one is rolled for after you start jumping, in midair, so there's a good chance that the model jumps, and then you roll, and he plummets to his death. Good for a laugh, every time.

The table to roll on when trying to get Henry VIII's wife pregnant and birth a son.

Only made all the more hilarious by the player shouting at one point during the game:"How the fuck do I get my wife pregnant?"

(Here I Stand)

i don't know shit about wargames, someone post that 40k guy who built a wall of units around the edge of the table.

In 6th edition 40k, poor wording lead to the Tyranid Pyrovore nuking the entire table when it dies with an explosion that increases in severity the more models were standing nearby. The intended rules were obvious, but they were just not written that way.
