Merry Christmas! I hope you're having a good holiday season. Did you get anything /gwsg/ related under the tree this year?

The color differences makes sense. Sounds like you make the lore of your Imperial fleet to be a rag tag band of different planets forces joining up.

I think thats when a BFG game worked the best. I remember that a 1500 game takes too long.

my sister got the new BB box for our 13 y/o nephew for christmas, and it has been an absolutely miserable experience for everyone involved. to me, a 13 y/o boy that is obsessed with boardgames should be the perfect audience for this, and I have no idea how GW expects this to be a product for anything but their core audience

kid saw the box and was excited AF, looks like an awesome fantasy sports board game, with awesome miniatures. opens the box, sees that the rulebook is a literal 100 page tome compared to the quick-play booklets you get in a typical board game. then he's met with the horrible reality of GW products: a handful of unpainted plastic sprues. kid is absolutely wtf'd by now. then I explain that we need to go buy cutters and plastic glue for it (my sister obviously had no idea one would need fucking tools to play this game). luckily for us there was a stationary store nearby and we found some semi-passable tools to work with. we then spent the next 3 hours cutting sprues, and the miniatures are a nightmare to assemble, with miniscule pieces that have no obvious way to fit together. there was an instruction manual that helped, but only so much. by the end of the process I swear the kid was about to cry. we had just spent basically the entirety of christmas day just assembling this shit (stopping to eat in-between and stuff), and by the end we didn't even get to play because it was getting late and we had dinner plans

I will try to get a game in with him tomorrow, but I dread having to teach him the rules. I haven't looked into the rulebook yet, but am absolutely hoping that they have a small boardgame-style booklet or something so that we can quickly get into the game without having to read 20 pages of rules. all-in-all, what the fuck GW, have you completely lost sight of your target audience? are you out of your mind?

>GW, have you completely lost sight of your target audience?
Yes.
>are you out of your mind?
You bought, get bent, numbers go up :^)

yes I guess that's the sad reality. btw, wait until tomorrow when I tell the kid that he has to buy a bunch of paints and brushes for this shit, and the final result will be nothing like the pictures on the box. for a casual consumer, the box is complete false marketing

Genuine question, do BFG players actually like the old sculpts? Even back in the 2000s (roughly the time period between 4th and 5th of 40K) and I went into shops and saw the BFG blister packs, I thought the imperial ship models looked like metal lumps of shit, and they haven't changed much since then.

I never got into BFG because neither imperial not chaos ships appealed to me. Too big, too gribbly, looked bad if done quickly by drybrushing, and painting them nicely would take too long for models I didn't like anyway. The one faction I liked the look of (Eldar) was unavailable locally at the time. Plus IIRC at that time I was still seething about them axing MoW
Now that there are various third-party STLs available I might give it a look if I happen to find an oldhammer group playing it.

yeah they did, but almost everybody uses 3rd party or prints or proxies today

I've been out of Necromunda for a while. Looking for the following pdf :
Bastion of Law
Book of Desolation
Tribe of the Wasteland
Necromunda - Apocrypha

Wish a Warmaster scene would materialize in front of me
