Do we get to roll or assign our Ability Scores as normal? I think the only mention is in the Class perk of getting your primary requisite at a decent level, but nothing outside of that. Or even a way to purchase higher Ability Scores.

I guess just pick something that fits. Regional Pokemon, out-of-region Pokemon belonging to a trainer, whatever you want to be.
I guess the usual "don't pick a legendary" clause is in effect but honestly, legendaries are probably closer to extremely rare and more powerful than average, rather than god-powered beings. At least in this world. Just pick something you actually want instead of trying to powergame it and you should be fine.

Autumn was the ideal system to adapt to, I thought. The harvest season, the moment before resources needed to be accumulated for a period of shortage. Neither overspecialised towards arctic climates, nor to arid environments. And spring was easy mode anyway, as the natural world went. Yes. Autumn was the time to store up food, which demanded the most adaptations.

Unfortunately it had been autumn, spring, spring, summer, winter and autumn in a localised area within the last 15 minutes.

The house-sized cat of ice and shadow stared down in confusion at the 8 baby seasonal deities tussled with each other, fighting for dominance and fun. The scientist I had met earlier in the day was frantically scribbling notes and coming up with theories about throwbacks to Legendaries and the basis for the creation myths of this world.

"By the way, did you know I can control the weather too?" she added.

"Oh? That's unexpected but not unprecedented, I've met humans with psychic or aura based powers" I offered, demonstrating I was both by creating a time-out forcefield between two tired mons. "So, which is it?"

"Neither!" she said brightly, making it rain. Literally. "Far as I can tell, it's an Air move! That's why I became a scientist actually, to research my own lineage and figure out how much pokemon DNA is in my family tree!"

"Quite a lot, I imagine. It seems these specimens aren't the only throwbacks i town" I mused as four different 'mons pushed a small tornado back and forth between each other, like reverse tug of war.
