Ghoul Stars>Region of space inhabited by scary monsters >They're scarier and more monstrous than all the other scary monsters (just take our word for it)>No you can't see it, we're never going to show you, and it's never gonna be in the gamesThe harrowing>Imperium is invaded by monsters from another dimension that is scary and incomprehensible (but also it isn't the warp)>They're scary and incomprehensible (so basically Chaos but Chaosier)>No you can't see it, we're never going to show you, and it's never gonna be in the gamesWhat is the point of this?
>>97255841Cause they aren't selling models of those scary monsters, and whatever you could personally imagine would blow whatever Gee Dubs could think up anyways.
>>97255850>Cause they aren't selling models of those scary monstersThen why bother writing it into the lore? Even the fucking Rak'gol show up in the RPGs.
>>97255880It's called "fluff", anon. It's the flavorful stuff to make stuff like the Death Spectres seem cooler in the readers head to motivate them to buy Gee Dubs' paints and space marine models. That's the point, it's capitalism at work.
That lore was made by Fantasy Flight Games for the RPGs, which require spooky mysterious corners of the universe and introduce threats that 40K lore aficionados wouldn't insta-recognize. The Rak'Gol, Slaugth and Yu'Vath are better examples of this, since they put in the effort to actually make stats for those. There are lots of strange xenos pocket empires and ancient artifacts in the 40K universe that are completely unrelated to any of the Big Spooky Olds (Old Ones, Eldar, Necrontyr, Chaos). But these are all threats that aren't significant enough to be Military threats, so they don't have tabletop armies. Maybe they might turn up as a model in something like Blackstone Fortress, the way those drones and ghouls and such did.
>>97255922>But these are all threats that aren't significant enough to be Military threatsThe Tau empire is fucking tiny and they're too small to threaten anyone, but they have an army.
>>97255841It's a toolkit for you to make up your own stuff and provide backgrounds for your adventures and for your little guys. Then again, if they did show that stuff you'd probably moan and moan how the idea you had was so much cooler and now you can't fit it into the "canon". You have agency as a player, use it.
>>97255841> the galaxy is full of horrors beyond your comprehension> they should describe them in ways anon can comprehend
>>97256011Warhammer is a GAME. Think about what that means.
>>97256019That you have trouble with your imagination?
>>97256036Quit playing dumb.
>>97256057Dunno, that's what it sounds like your issue is to me.
>>97256019games aren't allowed superfluous bits?
>>97255945Yes, the Tau Empire at its presented scale probably shouldn't have an Army. It's one of the complaints about them. It's also arguably among their distinguishing traits; they shouldn't, yet they do.The Tau Empire is at the lower threshold as to what qualifies as significant enough to get you a tabletop army, and even then they have a mishmash of client races who definitely don't qualify. You see who qualified (Vespid, Kroot). Definitionally, you don't see who didn't make the cut Tau probably steamrolled five rak'gol-tier jabronies during their 2nd sphere of expansion.
>>97256019Any GAME may have vaguely defined additional information within the confines of its lore to set the scene or enhance the scope of said GAME. If you are truly a player of GAME you would know that every adding stats to every last rock and tree and cloud makes for a very boring, very time consuming GAME, so somethings are better left to the imagination of those involved in the GAME instead. Also, don't reply to this post, there is nothing you have to say to dispute this incredibly correct fact.
>>97255841It's lore designed to be RPG-centric rather than Wargame-centric. GW's lore is shit because we know too much. You can't introduce a new chaos god or race of xenos and have them matter. FFGs is better because it's designed to be something players and GMs can develop to tell their own story. This is also why Mutant Chronicles mogs the fuck out of Warhammer.
>>97255841just another NPC retard that wants everything fleshed out because you have no imagination and don't play your own campaigns
>>97256073>adding stats to every last rock and treeThat's not remotely comparable to shit like Ghoul Stars and The Harrowing and you know it.
>>97255880Rak'gol only exist because GW didn't let the FFG writers use a pre-existing xenos faction from Battlefleet Gothic in Rogue Trader
>>97255841In the original intent, the fluff was meant to be a setting in which your guys could be in. Craftworld Fuckstain, the Warband of Raptavious, Hivefleet Sexual Assault and others would have their little fluff something you could put in there with the context from the larger story providing the background. If you were kitbashy and ambitious enough, GW did stuff like set up rules to use lizardmen against necrons, or you could proxy your own army for this and that. Sometimes some fluff pieces like the Q'orl were meant to be a potential new threat/faction that never materialized due to GW going with Tau/kroot instead of Q'rol. But you're right- in the new lore GW doesn't like to do that kind of thing specifically because if they can't sell plastic shit to retards like you, why write it?
>>97256214>sell plastic shit to retardsThat's the entire point of wargames. If you're not buying plastic shit, then what are you actually doing?
>>97256249Because at one point the wargame encouraged your dumb ass to make your own chaos but chaosier kitbash, with new setups like GW actively discouraging kitbashing it means GW has no reason to write that stuff. It's telling because the fluff he's complaining about is like 20+ years old. The nu-lore would exist purely to complement a product launch.
>>97255841... do you not set your explorator, rogue trader or inqusitional rpgs, skirmish scenarios and campaigns in whatever the fuck section of the galaxy you want? >what is the point of this? A kitchen sink setting with gestural world building you can use as inspiration for your own fun. If you need the corporate slop version and are upset they haven't poured another fat shit down your throat you get what you deserve..
>>97256279>Because at one point the wargame encouraged your dumb ass to make your own chaos but chaosier kitbashCustom armies are fun to talk about but implementing them in an actual game is another story. If I wanted to make a custom army based on aliens from the ghoul stars, I would not only need a reasonably fair set of rules for them but I would also need other players to recognize and agree to those rules. It's a hell of a lot easier to do that if it comes straight from the company's mouth.
OK, how about this: the Ghoul Stars are home to C'Tan loyalist Necrons. Maybe they got sick of all the infighting and sheer stupidity their people descended into after they got free and decided they liked being mindless enforcers for evil gods better. Or maybe they don't even realize the revolt happened and either got put in stasis early before the other ones revolted or their data is just so corrupted they forgot they don't work for the C'Tan anymore. They've managed to collect a bunch of shards to try to fix their gods, but considering how screwed up their brains are they can't put them back together right, assuming it's even possible, and the shards have turned into some big, horrifying mass of HP Love-crap that does unspeakable things to anyone that gets too close.
>>97255841what does this even mean? you want to buy a couple more $60 books filled with broken stratagems that will be eliminated when they release 11th in a few months?
