Where do people actually play VTT in 2025?I searched for games on Roll20 for the first time in probably 5 years, and it's an absolute fucking ghost town.Pic unrelated
>>97263752Turns out antisocial losers have to GO AND MEET PEOPLE in online space too!
>>97263752The covid inflated bubble finally popped i guess. Playing ttrpgs online is fucking ass and even the fad motivated people caught up, on top of that the casual approach doesn't work in the long run with something inherently social as ttrpgs, for example randos online just ghost games at a whim because they have no attachment whatsoever with the groups they join.P&P is the only way, vtt are only complementary to that.
May Allah forgive me for uttering such a word but... Discord. It is where 90% of looking for games takes place. You will then have to filter and search for functioning humans.
>>97264054I'm going to regret this but... Can you explain to a fucking boomer like myself that exclusively use discord with his RL friends how you're supposed to find groups in there? Do you need to scrape the web for servers to join and then advertise your games there?
>>97264086I'm glad you asked fellow 30+ boomer with no idea how discord works. In my very limited experience it goes something like this: >google, bing or duckduckgo your preferred system in combination with "discord" or just P&P discord lfg >find a direct invite or reddit thread that has an invite to these open servers >invite isn't some arcane initiation that will summon transsexuals upon you instantly so don't be too afraid>look a little bit through the looking for group channels until you find something interesting or post something yourselfDiscord these days fullfills the role of smaller community forums that where popular when we grew up and it's kind of ass for that but sadly there isn't much else to use. Outcomes may varry but at worst you will just be ignored.
>>97263752Honestly I just use google slides. All you need is something that can keep a background and let you move around tokens. The dice can be handled in a dice room. The character sheets somewhere else too.
>>97264208>>97264086Discord itself has search server features. You can find public servers where people are looking for games, from offical stuff like D&D servers to large public servers catering to specific systems and editions.
>>97264086Translation for us older millennials and Gen-Xers:>Discord == BBS with actual pictures instead of ASCII artYou find a server the same way you would find a BBS back in the day: by knowing someone already there is rolling the dice with random ones found online
>>97264086>>97264208i guarantee if you google "[your game here] dicord" there will be an official discord server made by the game company full of people who play the game. this is also the vtt i use now https://discord.gg/AkgTxNaS 40$ one time payment and you host the game on your pc.some games i like that have discordshttps://discord.gg/AkgTxNaS Dungeon Crawl Classicshttps://discord.gg/pathfinder paizo gameshttps://discord.gg/mothership-461670627468771329 mothership (think aliens ttrpg)https://discord.gg/KT4PWwNV pilot.net the lancer rpg discord (WARNING THIS IS A LEFTY SAFE SPACE WARNING THIS IS A LEFTY SAFE SPACE IF YOU ARE A CHUD DO NOT ENTER) and all 4 of these servers have sections that are about playing different games.
