If you told me a few years ago that I'd be primarily using fucking Army Painter warpaints I would've called you a retard. Genuinely what a gargantuan upgrade from the old crap, can't recommend it enough
How do you stop the dropper from getting clogged?
>>97277514Paper clip.
>>97277498Love army painter paints now, it's like 30% of my repertoire, with Vallejo being 65% and GW 5%. That box is way too much though, there is no reason anyone needs that many paints, that's just consoomer shit. You really only need a few different colors and then learn how to mix colors yourself
>>97277533Yeah I don't own the whole range, I just thought this image was good for the OP
I’ve been using the same 90 paint set for the last 6 years, army painter is great
>>97277498Why do you need so many colors?
>>97277601Convenience.
>>97277625I wonder if having so many different colors and remembering what color you used for what (when you army paint), is less convenient. Or whihc shade you want to use.
>>97277601Because for model painting have premixed shades is a matter of convenience and makes standardization easy. I can mix paints but I'm sure as someone who's done it yourself it sucks when you realize half your army is a different shade of green that looked right before the paint dried.>>97277565the set that's half this big is the sweet spot for me, especially if you get it on sale. I actually use the little MDF organizer they send with it too. They actually show that all the extra colors are just shades of one family, so you can achieve the mega set by just brightening or darkening. Each paint has a 5 shade family, its kind of cool how they did it.
>>97277601It's hard to get the exact same color twice
>>97277601Such a nomodels take. Or, with the utmost charity, a nogames take from someone who gets to cherry pick cool models here and there but never has to paint an army or repeat schemes between two or more models.
>>97277683>remembering what color you used for what (when you army paint)I just write it down, and that's despite never buying any paint set.
>>97277601Yeah obviously you're unlikely to get the exact same shade twice. This is fine for random once off colours or colours where exact matches aren't needed. Also even within a session, working on one mini the consistency of a mixed paint can thin too much just sitting on a wet palette. Obviously there are things you can do to avoid that but the way I do things if I needed to use a colour for a while on one mini I might end up having to try and mix it a second time before I'm done, which again, is unlikely to perfectly match.
New year same stupid bullshit noskill painter threads who need the perfect scenarios to be able to do mediocre paintjobs on models that never see a table outside their mums kitchen table.Wow congrats , you didnt have a melty because the paint was mean to you
>>97277601These are not even miniature paints in the pic btw
>>97277601Having to mix is a pain in the ass if you need larger amounts of the colour in questionAlso that's more of a personal issue, but I often have trouble visualising how exactly I should mix the paints I have to get the specific colour and tone I'm imagining. I guess my brain just isn't very good with this sort of thing
>>97277498My grandfather bought me a box of these. I used them to paint my first batch of necrons. I settled for Walmart acrylics in the past so it was a pretty major upgrade and I've loved the brand ever since
>>97277719Thats interesting. Guess you dont really need the big set. But for color stability you better get a set with several colors.>>97277739When you dry brush, colors will always vary. Or when you use washs, they will look different. As long as you know the amount like 2 to 3, the color differences should be low.
>>97277745I can understand that, but often you build more than one mini. Often a whole unit, if not more. When you buy several units over years, you are right. Or add two years later a new unit.
>>97277780Thats a good plan, but i thought about how detailed your notes need to be when your minis have many different colored details.
>>97277814Sorry, i just wanted to illustrate color mixing.
>>97277795Good point. When you need more paint.Didnt thought about that.
>>97277832Good point. That really beats having less paint flasks and mix it, but having it easier to paint.
Got both their Battletech sets. Been liking it so far.
>>97278301It's not so bad. You basically write something like:Tyranid carapaceBasecoat Leviathan Purple (dot of paint)Shade 50/50 Burnt Umber/ivory black (dot of wash)Highlight Slaanesh Grey (dot of paint)Or something. I bought a cheap journal from the dollar store and kept it on my desk.
