This Fiction Rule of Thumb is relevant. You want to add crazy stuff, but the more you add, the less things are likely to work out.

By my reckoning, if you keep things localized, then you can do 2 crazy things or 1 really crazy thing per thing they have you write. Especially if you give it to the antagonist.

A Speed Demon Draconis Combine warrior who's spent a fortune upgrading a Stinger LAM with Clan Tech? If this special Stinger is blown up by the end of the book, you can probably get it in.

A Free Worlder who surrounds themself with people augmented to look like a variety of mythical beings using Canopus tech? Bigger ask, but if it's the only thing and you integrate it into their personality as a mythology obsessed to the point that they only employ mechs with names of mythical creatures as well, it could make it through.

You're considered new for them, so you can't go full Kojima and make everything crazy. But you can make one element wild if everything else remains grounded, and that will make you stand out.
