Cyberpunk 2020 is the second edition of the Cyberpunk TTRPG that focuses on simulation gameplay and has a black trenchcoat aesthetic.

Cyberpunk RED is the fourth edition of the Cyberpunk TTRPG that is set after Cyberpunk 2020 following the Fourth Corporate War, focuses on more balanced gameplay and is more streamlined but has less content.

You can discuss Shadowrun here too because I also feel bad for those guys.

The backstory for my current character is that they went cyberpsycho and got clapped by MAXTAC, only to be scraped off the pavement by a corp and put back together as a science project.

Haven't encountered any fully borged NPCs yet. I don't think the current crew is ready for that.

Just an expanded table, then. Could be a good thing. Machine pistols having their own classification is wonderful news to me, since I consider them to be the most cyberpunk weapons (outside of implants, of course) and their exclusion from RED was deeply felt by me.

More visually interesting for people to be rocking all sorts of different guns rather than everybody having katanas. Melee solos are cool though, bit they need a little more investment than a gun solo since your opponents usually won't face you down in honorable melee. I haven't got the chance yet but I've wanted to try out a character like that

Yeah, that was the assumption I made as well, but it never felt right to me (for example, a Beretta 93R would be classed as an "SMG"), so it's nice to have them as a separate classification now.

Any competent Solo is always ready to use anything and everything to destroy his enemies.
That said, only using melee is stupid and will get you annihilated by anybody smart enough to stay out of range.

NTA, I'm trained with shoulder weapons, but I don't carry one on my person. Running a corop lady, so I figure most of my stuff will be close and dirty. In the event I know I'm heading to a rough part of Night City, I'd source a weapon as I need it.

Most of the time, I don't think a business lady is going to be walking around with a full-length shotgun or rifle swinging off her shoulders. In the future, if I borg out further, I might do some pop-up weapons if they benefit from my shoulder arms skill.

The ERMK is basically that. As I understand, they use Red's framework for combat and such, with a few added mechanics for humanity gain and the new quickhacks. My ref is using some of the humanity stuff, but we're leaving the quickhacks out since it's time of the red.

I bought the physical box set, and it's basically been lying dormant for months. I don't know of anyone in my area who'd be down for a game

SMGS are more accurate Pistols that only have 1 ROF, and can use automatic fire in RED; they have their own range band, that's slightly more accurate than regular pistols. And are the same skill unlike 2020. SMGs are basically just marksmen pistols, or pocket automatics in RED; that's their entire niche.

I don't understand why Autofire needs alternate range tables in the first place. All it does is makes adding a larger variety of Autofire weapons a pain since you have to make up new range tables to accommodate them on top.

that is literally his answer to all high priced items and even the arasaka prototype rifle which is 15k when the normal payout to jobs is like 1000 because of 'muh setting, item availability, and street level'. meanwhile i can get FaceFucker cyberware in a random store that allows me to oneshot goons after 3 gigs in 2020.

I would say that I'm somewhere between all three. Cyberpunk is never one thing, and I try to reflect that in the characters which I create. For example, my last four characters were: a gun-crazy Nomad from Southern Nevada who was basically Vasquez from Aliens, a bishi Rockerboy who was like the unholy lovechild of Jim Morrison and The Joker, a Haitian Netrunner-turned-Fixer who styled himself after Baron Samedi, and an autistic katana-wielding Solo who craved Total Yakuza Death.

I thought Solo of Fortune was just going to be the big dlc for Interface 5 (hopefully 15 pages of solid content) but if it's an actual book and serious about raising the firepower level I'll be very pleased. Seriously it's about giving people what they want and we want to blow stuff up with style.

Here is a free idea James: Aersoyzed Naloxone as a grenade (kinda like Aersoyzed street drugs in Hornet's Pharmacy) to use against enemy solos high on black lace (which has to be an opiate right?).

This, or “just tech upgrade it bro!” Seriously, I hate invention as a mechanic if only because it gives the developers a get out of jail free card for every poorly designed item. Homebrew isn’t a revolutionary concept, it’s been around since the inception of the hobby. And this is coming from someone who likes techs and home brewing in general. I don’t want my players to spend downtime fixing the developer’s fuck ups, I’d just rather make certain unusable items better in my game and let my techie invent wholly new things. It’s even more frustrating when everyone on the discord smugly acts like the developers are playing some sort of 5d chess when they make items shit “on purpose.”

Funny you bring that up, recently after playing some ZZZ I've been wondering: why always worry about silencers, super compact stealth weapons and being serious operators when my character lives in a setting where the tech is over the top and their life is cheap? I should try something like giant hammers that explode on impact, combat knives in platform shoes or sword scabbards build into my knees. Who knows, I might have fun before the character dies or people tell me to stop.
