Gods are real and inhabit the world.

Most of the lakes without drain are inhabited by goddesses with different peculiarities.
One makes it rain upwards from the lake to the sky (she likes to take showers), another creates rainbows from the lake to the sea (yeah, no circular rainbows in this case), a third has a lake with no bottom, and it is said that ancestral monsters dwell within, another one is the lover of the sun god that visits her regularily (it's always hot here), and some are just normal lakes without outlet to the sea.

Worship of a German styled pantheon of gods is a major religion. Each god has its own temples, each city its own divine patrons, and even the Trickster god has his own knightly order. The primary symbol of the faith seems to be a runic sword:
>Heaven is made up of several different levels, with holy warriors and mighty kings sitting at the highest, where they drink with concubines and fight all the time. Peasants sit at the lowest.
>Serfs, thralls, and even peons in some cases are seen as the soulless. Men born with the spirits of animals who were created by the gods to serve their betters.
>Salvation is achieved through deeds and honorable blood, not mere faith alone. As a result: you have holy orders for every single conceivable profession from ratcatchers to royal ass cleaners. The blood requirement has made lower classes susceptible to foreign faiths.
>Pilgrims like to collect numerous 'relics' of the gods with every temple and convent claiming to hold the thumb of the cleaning god, or the favorite towel of the messiah or... Anything.
By and large, these deities have little to do with this realm of existence, if they even exist with most miracles probably being natural phenomenon or the folly of man. The kings particularly like this faith as it implies that they will sit alongside the king of the gods, spending the rest of eternity in gold palaces catered to by blonde sex slaves. This promotes near constant war with their neighbors as if one wants paradise, they need to fight.

The White Church: the dominant religion of the known world is a monotheistic faith where the saints are held to be particularly close to God. This is due to the theology lacking a clear founding figure or messiah, resulting in religious literature being cobbled together from numerous prophets, priests, and wise men who are seen as the communicators of God's will to the earthly world. This has resulted in a faith where households frequently have household saints or even little altars dedicated to the angels and where the question of Sainthood is even more pressing to monastic orders and convents who now zealously search for anyway to canonize their founder. Some of these orders even had some success with the Hammerites and the Clares succeeding in getting cathedrals dedicated to their founders.

It would have been a decentralized mess, but Saint Soll managed to somehow cobble together hundreds if not thousands of theological textbooks and folkloric tales into a single concise book that cemented the White Church as the one true faith of the land. And while Soll was successful in cementing the power of the Ministry, didn't stop masses of forbidden apocryphal literature and forbidden saints.

Among recent banned books sitting in the Great Librarium:
-Household Gods and Saints: heretical text likening the Sainthood to the old Pagan faiths. Particularly examines personal relics and household saints.
-The Lady of Death: Saint Death, much forgotten, is seen as a demon by the holy.
-The City: once there was a man and he arrived in a city. He made it prosper. Several saints appear in the text, and the founder's name was hastily scrawled out.

There's a folkish, vaguely Jewish, faith only practiced by some women in the north that has been widely undetected by the religions of the land. It's seen, even by its own adherents, as lore keeping with only scant traces of a singular god existing in stories passed on through the generations. These women are mostly keepers of the old stories, herbology, and local superstitions that keep evil at bay. It's extremely small and passed on through bloodline and tradition with 'Wise Women' selected by the wizened crones.

One of the main religions is a kind of badass Arthurian take on Christianity. The local King Arthur is seen as a Christlike figure, often portrayed as the saint who judges those that pass on into the afterlife though there's no clear religious canon. The Arthurian world is omni present here with quest to find the holy grail being a pilgrimage that all Arthurian knights have to undertake at least once in their lives. The Lady of the Lake is seen as a saintly figure and venerated by a local monastery that has set up shop next to her lake.

Finally, the knights of the round table are seen as saints in their own right with entire cathedrals dedicated to their many achievements. All of them, including the bravest of them all: Sir Robyn. Who took on the two headed giant with the help of a brave bard. And who can forget this setting's Lancelot? Who saved a maiden from her father who wanted to marry her off... To a woman? No, this is wrong... Why would he massacre an entire castle?

Moving on, Avalon is often likened to paradise with the concept of the fantastical island being present among the knights of the grail. Only men can enter this faith as clergy, women can only sit in Church alongside their male relatives. It's also a religion for those that fight so serfs and vagabonds tend to drift into alternative monotheistic religions or even different pagan cults.

The Crusades, be they Polytheist or Monotheist in nature, were immense successes. The middle east of this world has been carved up between several crusader kingdoms, arch dioceses, and knightly orders with the Arab types driven into the desert where they periodically raid the holy land. The crusaders can and do use their influence to greatly influence the main religion of the setting with the curia paying heed to the whims of the Holy Land. Unfortunately, they're starting to lose their influence as the crowns grow increasingly Machiavellian, and the desert raiders are slowly growing bolder.

There are two main religions on the map:
>Sacramentalism: a ruthless monotheism whose prophet was broken at the wheel, resurrected, took his revenge upon the Empire that killed him, and established a ruthless Church that persecuted the pagan. God is seen as a merciless law giver, who takes and gives none, and he must be placated so he may return and destroy his rotten creation. Pagans, heathens, and the old believers need to be slapped in chains and forced to serve his holiness. The worldview of Sacramentalism views the Church as the sole thing keeping the faithful from descending into satanic savagery.
>Darism: a xenophobic monotheism that holds that there's only God, Darias is his prophet, and all others are idols. They hold that Sacramentalism is a degenerated copy of the one true faith. Pointing their enemies taking part in such haram and disgusting things like art, music, uncovered women, pork, and not liking boys. God here is portrayed as ruthless, rewarding raiders and marauders with his favor which is a big component of their worldview: the enemies of Darias are everywhere and the faithful are forever at war.

Minor faiths include:
>The Godhead: men who venerate God as being the perfect union of three entities. They have been declared heretics by both the 'White' Church and Ghazis despite predating both faiths.
>The Ursulines: nuns who refuse to play second fiddle to the chauvinism of the Church. Heretics for they spit on the pope.
>Briar Hag Cults: leftovers of an old Pagan faith that venerate witches.
>Rezeks: followers of Rezekiel who have had enough of the Church's bullshit so they've risen in revolt.

The main religion is a hodgepodge of henotheistic temples, with the numerous kingdoms each worshiping one god above all. So the Shar cult runs one kingdom, or the Wotanists are going a viking in another, or there's pig worshippers in the desert. It's bizarrely Sumerian in a sense as growing and wanning influence of the kingdoms reflects that of the gods themselves with the land littered with shattered statues and the lonely remnants of pillars. Crusades are a strange thing, and they start after the high priests of the major kingdoms declare there's a singular threat against the realms. As a result, there's a shitload of different clerics during wars.

>>97299555
What makes the sand people different is that they're truly monotheistic. God is a vengeful flame, like that of the Old Testament, and he demands adherence to the law or else. God is seen as a merciless Judge, Jury, and Executioner over his creations. The Crusades started because of a Jyhad.

Luther Hess is a Prestor John like figure that's said to reign over the kingdom of the misbegotten. The holy grail, an artifact so powerful it was said to be too dangerous for man to use, was found during the Sixth Crusade in which the last fortress of the Gazi fell to the Paladins. The Paladins, the greatest and most devout of the knights, decided to send the eldest of their number to the edge of the world where the divine put those that have no place in our world. Taking a one-man caravel, John was last seen sailing away into the sunset never to be seen again.

Though interpretations may differ, this is a common belief among the raider clans. The Zarani believe that cremation violates the will of their God, tying water with creation and rebirth.
>"From the primordial water of antediluvia we came, we go back to him thusly."
-The Zaran
Their God is said to have brought light to a dark world where one could find only the abyssal waters of creation. Then after light, God molded the Earth from mud and clay before shaping the beings of the world before him. The first men are said to have come from clay, and the first women from crudely shaped mud. While appearing mad to outsiders, funerary wells can be found dotted around Oasis.

One of the currently most common species is monogendered snakegirls, that are agile, attractive and deadly but can be reasoned with. They appeared several centuries ago mysteriously - curse, contagion or portal from other world are common explanations but true cause is not known even to the sneks themselves. Rumors state that they can be tamed by headpats, but usually when people attempt this they just die violently.

Angels are worshipped quite widely here. While there is a central God, he who created the world and what not, his angels are the ones who govern the earth in his stead. As a result, they've largely taken the place of saints with some unscrupulous merchants claiming to own 'angelic' relics, selling them to unsuspecting pilgrims. But while most 'relics' sold by shysters are complete garbage, and that most 'angelic' artifacts kept locked away in monasteries are completely mundane, a rare few are artifacts from the precursors.

And the Church fanatically keeps them safe.

Ghosts are the most common form of undeath. The souls of those with unfinished business, they haunt the earthly realm and scare mortals. Most are relatively harmless, but some like poltergeists and wraiths despise the living, tormenting them relentlessly. The Exorcists and Imams of civilized lands claim they were never mortal but were actually Demons. Tribal Shaman and Witch Doctors believe that most ghosts can only be placated through sacrificial rituals, longing for the joys of life they lost in death.

The old Empire, while short lived, left a lot of ruins that dot the world.

Rolled 20 (1d99)

The DND races USED to be their generic fantasyland selves but now? After some unnamed disaster, they've now closer to the source material:
>Dwarves: the GigaChads of old have withdrawn to deep mines where they stash gold and hide in the veins of the Earth. Some earthquakes have been attributed to them with stories of miners breaking deals or stealing Dwarven gold being commonplace in mining towns and mountainside villages. PCs will know them as clever craftsmen but a complete pain in the ass to deal with for they take offense to ANYTHING, adventurers are advised to be wary among these proud creatures. (German Myth Dorfs)
>Elves: elves have largely gone extinct in the mortal world, but the elves of the fairy lands are still alive. If anything, they've prospered with the decline of the Elfen kingdoms, crossing over to stalk the deep woods of the world in search of new playthings. Elves are childlike for they lack empathy and have taken many to Fairyland where they never return. PCs will know them as terrors that shriek in the dark forests and misty bogs, children of two worlds yet natives to none. (The Fairy Queen)

The Golden Emperor managed to solidify his Empire but had a lot of difficulty producing a male heir. His best generals split the Empire amongst themselves.

Come on.

Rolled 41 (1d99)

Elves, Dwarves, Orcs, and Haflings aren't around. Instead, you have minor races filling in the gaps like say:
-Vistani are out stealing shit and kidnapping kids.
-The Caliban work as ditch diggers and undertakers and Walmart employees.
-Thri-Kreen have hives in the deep desert.
-Illithids secretly rule the world.
-Red Caps make damn sure humans stay out of the Fairy realms.

Feels like a slot machine.

Conflicts are resolved through magical children's card games.

OP here. We have hit the four posts to serve as a framework:

>19: magical artifacts from a forgotten era - no way to understand them
>The Crusades, be they Polytheist or Monotheist in nature, were immense successes.

Dinosaurs haunt the hidden parts of the world. Tribals name these lost islands and forgotten vales the Stomping Lands, and often worship the greatest of these terrible lizards as gods walking the earth.
>>97308033
Most rulers of the world derive their legitimacy through descent from the Golden Emperor, who once united the world through ruthless but efficient conquest, incorporating many peoples of the world to his vast empire. He ruled for only 12 years but his legacy was tremendous, shaping the administrative system of the civilized world to a decimal system akin to the Golden Horde of our timeline.

When I first clicked on this thread I couldn't see the difference between water & land. If you swap them around you get another notEarth kind of map. I thought the islands to the west were the notGreat Lakes

The landless king, Riivaliis riimarco, the greatest pirate alive had his fleet dashed upon the stomping lands in a once in a lifetime storm,
his raids had troubled the holy land for many years, he was thought to be dead but rumor has it has has appeared on the other side of the continent with an army of savages riding dinosaurs at his back.

Nothing lolrandom thankfully but, but also, aside from the crusader states theme isn't this really generic?
>>97314744
Now we wail as OP has abandoned us.
>>97320211
Not sure it makes a difference now, but I changed the hues a bit; now the sea is bluer than the land.

>aside from the crusader states theme isn't this really generic?
OP here. I'm open to rerolling the technology level. We can make a very generic setting, but the earlier high rolls were pretty exciting.

How about we get a bit creative with the tech level ? It is fully possible to have a functionnal state and running water in the "stone age" after all. Or to have complex clockworks and steam engine without industry.

Something like urbanism, agriculture, domestication, metal work, writing/bureaucracy, seafaring, mathematics/astronomy, etc... All separate form each other.

There should be variations between cultures, but neighbouring people should share roughly the same tech level.

I don't like contradicting something that was explicitly stated before. If possible, add something new instead.

How many settings did we do? It's not fun if we do this every two weeks.

Ok, I can make this work.
Per >>97313055, some children are semi-randomly born "Calibans" (ugly mutants). To distance themselves from thoses, rich people have propped up plastic surgery, makeup and fashion.

This setting's nobility is bogged as shit, in order to look as close as possible to some ideal human form. Of course, this process allows them to disguise most highborn calibans into regular humans.

Also, compsognatus instead of chickens.

rolled Medieval technology while >>97313055
rolled Early modern technology
We also have arcane magic as per >>97299555
>>
>>97328961
I think this ideal human form would derive from/be projected toward the Golden Emperor.
>>
>>97328631
I think we should try make a campaign setting within this setting in the end too.
>>
>>97298399
Only white humans exist in this setting, and magic is only for bad guys

I think I've said this before but:
the best format for this kind of thread, would be that there's a requirement for everyone to link their post to one previous (accepted) post. Eg maybe the thread is about building a family tree? Then you must specify whose immediate relative your dude is. You describe a country? Then place it next to some other countries created by previous anons, and you MUST describe its relations with those countries.
