I want to have players more invested in the creation of the world itself, and what embodies it. An old GM I played with would have players name NPC's as they were introduced, so I'm looking for more things like that.
>>97310064Some players just will not participate in this kind of world building, so get ready for that disappointment. But yeah, it's fun with the right group. Give them an archetype and ask them to fill in details, then arbitrate their suggestions into a coherent thing that fits the situation. If every NPC gets named Bob amd all your factions are just "these people like really big hats" then your group isn't into it.

>>97310604>This artist makes elves ugly. The artist makes this specific elf ugly. The other elves are depicted normally, and even get annoyed at the elf in the OP.>>97311026You are over-analyzing it. It's just a "draw silly faces for patreon bucks" artist like all the others.
Why do people seeth at this comic so much? It's no different then something you'd come across in the funny papers.
>>97310064This comic is fucking garbage and proof that Finnish people should be banned from all forms of comedy.
Is anybody here capable of reading instead of looking at images?
>>97312228If a single image derails your thread, your topic was shit to begin with.
>>97312242Prove that you're capable of reading.
Elves are wonderful. They provoke wonder.Elves are marvellous. They cause marvels.Elves are fantastic. They create fantasies.Elves are glamorous. They project glamour.Elves are enchanting. They weave enchantment.Elves are terrific. They beget terror. The thing about words is that meanings can twist just like a snake, and if you want to find snakes look for them behind words that have changed their meaning. No one ever said elves are nice.Elves are bad.
>>97310064>An old GMWhy lying online? An old GM would know that certain players won't engage with your world even at a gunpoint, and an old GM would ALSO know that there is no point delivering more than needed for functional scenario.

>>97310064Don't tell your players you're using them for world-building. Just talk about the world, and use any responses or interest as additional information to build on. Put down a solid foundation, then let the players build off that by asking about it. If they weren't willing to ask questions about the world, or make assertions about what they would like to see in it, then they weren't going to participate in group worldbuilding.
>>97310064My group's had multiple successful campaigns where each player has written in his own character's home nation, culture, the faction he works for or something like that. Obviously GM first comes up with the general outline of the setting, sets guidelines for what fits the setting and if needed asks players to tweak their wtiteups to make the whole thing a coherent whole. That kind of approach probably doesn't work for every group, but it's worked great for my group.
>>97310064Playoids generally aren't interested in that sort of thing, if they were they'd be Gaming themselves. Tried something once where it was, something like I had them roll a die for direction and another for distance from the starting town and asked them to tell me what was at that location, only one of them actually did it.

>>97310064During a session 0 I attended for a game of Fabula Ultima (shit game by the way, don't recommend it) one of the things we had to do was create a world map and determine the rules of how things like magic worked. The DM more or less served as a mediator. Everyone enjoyed the process and we had a relatively unique Avatar/Final Fantasy inspired setting. So if you want them to be invested in the creation of it, make them involved in the creation.
