I've always wanted to do a 'girls with guns' kind of game, but I confess a serious problem: Me and my army buddies have a good idea of what happens when someone gets shot, and if everyone has a gun, someone is going to get shot in the face which might ruin the mood somewhat. How do I handle that kind of that, when taking into account - you know - the inherently lethal nature of RPG combat?
take inspiration from conan 2d20you're super-durable
Backups clone bodies (such as Paranoia RPG)Inhuman resilience because magic (Nechronica) or borging up (Eclipse Phase).
>>97315803So the thing about games is they're actually real things and people play themWhich means they have official codified rules that describe what happens when you get shot in the faceSo rather than some abstract anime slop bullshit about nothing, your question should be>which games do the thing i want But you didnt ask that, because you dont actually know or care about games, as evidenced by the fact that you didnt even specify what you wanted in your worthless waste of a post
>>97315867I mean it's not like there are any 'realistic' games that provide solutions for the logical consequences of being shot
>>97315803There's a fair number of systems where combat isn't that lethal, of course, if you're worried about the violence involved, I'd say you're better off not playing something like Cyberpunk 2020.That said, if I get it right, you're looking for something like girls frontline or blue archive, but those handle the "girls with guns" theme very differently, so I think blue archive might be more up your alley. There actually is a homebrew around, even if I still have to try it out, not that much interest around the table. Can't post PDFs here anymore, just google it.
>>97315803>army buddies >thinks people get shot in the face frequently >chinese cartoon little girls This is some POG shit.
>>97315950Solutions? The solution is that your character is fucking dead and you roll a new character. That's it.
>>97315803After several incidents, I've started to ban every player who likes AK-12 from all my tables with no exceptions. I've ran into no problems since then. AN-94 is cute, tho.I'm sorry, what was your question, OP?
>>97316192Suggestions for a low lethality ranged-combat based system, or suggestions on how to refluff stuff so that combat isn't lethal.
>>97315803What >>97315841 said. Plus meta-currencies like "luck points" to turn a hit into a miss, or a lethal wound into a less-lethal wound (instead of hitting something important like the major arteries or vital organs, the bullet passes through a less important chunk of flesh that can be patched up without too much complication).
>>97315803>I've always wanted to do a 'girls with guns' kind of game, but I confess a serious problem: Me and my army buddiesTake heart in the fact that you have a real group of dudes as your players, that didn't apply online for your game online or some shit that less fortunate dudes have to put up withBut you might need a group of players that don't understand the problem that you and your normal group would have with this hypothetical setting
>>97315803Stop being a fag about realism and play MAID.
>>97316212Ah. In that case I don't have any new suggestions, since the ones given thus far in the thread already cover all the bases I could think of. If you're running a sci-fi game, then spare clone bodies (doesn't matter if you die, because you just keep coming back) or cybernetics (more durable than meat and repairs can be streamlined by just swapping out damaged parts) can work. If you're running science-fantasy, then you can do something similar with magic (PCs can just be healed/revived, or are supernaturally durable). If you're running a semi-realistic campaign, then you'll have to lean into meta-game mechanics like >>97316213 said.
>>97315803Just give everyone more HP. Is it really that hard?
Be careful though, supernaturally durable girls are potent ryona bait.
>>97316212Could take a superhero game and give them guns.
>>97316294Ryona likers should face the wall
>>97315803Ask yourself why it's not going to "ruin the mood somewhat" if a man gets shot in the face.A man is still a human life.
>>97315803Carbon coating.
>>97316432I'll concede no dismemberment unless there's a way to get those parts back, but there's nothing wrong with girl getting roughed up a little. Smile that comes from behind few bruises and bloodied nose is like ray of sunlight parting through the clouds.
>>97316245I second this, wanted to suggest it as well.>>97316257I think some refluffing of Only War could also work.
>>97316430You know what? This reminds me that I was considering the idea of a M&M game where a black moon appeared in the sky and started giving powers to people that started showing halos, and that did include superhuman resilience. I put it all on hiatus after I asked and no one was interested in super hero stuff, but the potential is there. You can even tie the power level to gear if you want to have the weapons scale, but the most important part is that you can take a magazine to the face and not die.
>>97315803Could have the game take place in a virtual environment where such concerns are handwaved: VR Game-within-a-game, gun fights as a metaphor for hacking, simulation of battles with some safeties in place because the creators have similar sensibilities to you.
>>97315803Nechronica
>>97315950Phoenix command exists, you're full of shit.
>>97315803Why would that ruin the mood any more than someone getting stabbed with a sword or disintegrated with disintegrate?
>>97316560You won't get a genuine response to this, if any. You shouldn't have even bothered.
>>97316560No it isn't retard men don't matter
>>97315803Versimilitude =/= realism. It means internal consistency. Most "girls with guns" settings actually have androids or cyborgs that just look like girls doing the fighting.I don't worry about the "inherently lethal nature of RPG combat" because it just isn't. There's usually some easy way to handwave it - magic, technology, or the fact a character just lacks vital organs to shoot for some reason depending on the setting.Like, in my modern fantasy setting, guns are actually a downgrade except in terms of capacity because they can't hold magic; the synthetic materials used to make most modern firearms just can't hold magical power the way a good old wood and steel crossbow can, and crossbows are inherently silent so they hold a place. Same with swords. And everyone has some magic (martials channel it into super strength and speed, casters to manipulate their environment with magic, both enhance their durability with it), so it checks out that until your power wanes (losing HP) you can take a few shots and have your natural magic ability basically turn it into a very painful game of paintball instead of a one-hit kill sim. You wanna run girls with guns? The girls are cyborgs or androids, they don't die if they get shot in the face because their actual processing power and shit is in their torso, behind layers of hyper-advanced sci-fi body armor.
>>97315803You're all adults, just because you've joined the army doesn't mean you can't play any video games featuring guns anymore because a hit in Counter Strike doesn't cause a man to slump over & pass out from shock.Sure you can laugh at "unrealistic" things now, but you can also all just realise you're playing games about dragons or aliens or anime 12 year olds carrying miniguns. If you can believe in magic fireballs you can believe in a cinematic bullet wound.
>>97319822>>97316560I'll bite. Why do you want to pretend that we're not wired to care more about women being hurt than other men?
>>97321080We live in era that advocates equal rights for all, and that would be unfair without equal wrongs for all.
>>97321122Right on a moral standpoint. Go on and send women to war, good luck.
>>97321122That's got nothing to do with the reaction to applied violence.
>>97321179In modern civilized society reaction to applied violence should always be the same.Regardless to who the victim is.Regardless to who the perpetrator is.
>>97321217Biology begs to differ. I can understand you're frustrated about the situation, but there's nothing to be done.
>>97321222Civilization is all about overcoming our animal impulses. Just as you should quiet down the part of your brain that commands to eat as much as you can before becoming diabetic lardball you should quiet down the part that nudges you to feel better or worse about violence against particular group of people.
>>97315803Have you teied playing traditional games?
>>97321122>misunderstanding equality of opportunity for equality of outcome >>97321257Really its about when to apply violence and to what groups. All civilizations and empires do this to remain an empire. The one you're comfortable in is just better at making it look like its happening elsewhere enough you can pretend its not us.
