There's standard strategy/basic strategy guides written up for every gambling game, that if memorised and applied, statistically increases your long term ability to win more than you lose.

Then there's the massive vibe check of feeling out if people are bluffing or not, and bluffing yourself to take advantage of people's knowledge of standard/basic strategy.

I've rinsed some buddies for money before. Some guys are really hard to read, but trying to think about how the other players at the table interact with each other is a good starting point. The other part is just hoping you flop a pocket pair/three/4 parts of a flush, because then you can ride out the turn and the river and might see your hand get better as the hand goes longer.
