What unique role do Tau occupy, because to me, they just come off as Imperial Guard with better equipment. They have similar doctrines and approaches to the IG. They're both based around gun lines of squishy infantry, artillery, and playing keep-away, and lorewise, adhere more to sensible/real-ish tactics.
>>
>>97334478
They were the first Eldar Space Marines with JSJ flying MEQ. Fish of Fury was supposed to be the IFV mobile infantry NATO adjacent gimmick but the flying MEQ weapon platform was, still is, and always will be their role. The loss of Deep Strike scatter also heavily changed the impact of their Crisis Suit main player.
>>
>>97334458
More or less yeah. They're "humans" that were heavily modified by their AI overlords over millennia to function well in the dense heavy gravity in the galactic core.
>>
>>97334478
IG use WW1/WW2 style tactics, especially those of the Red Army and Germany. They pin down enemies with waves of badly trained conscripts, trading hundreds of men for every dozen enemy killed, as artillery and heavy armor maneuver and play the decisive role.

Tau are based around modern military doctrine, so lots of drones, air superiority, combine arms, incredibly good satellite reconnaissance, targeted shock and awe, winning the hearts and minds, etc.

You could really think of the difference of doctrines as Guard being very Wasaw pact-esque and Tau being more like NATO.

>playing keep-away

The main tactic of the guard is

>NOT ONE STEP BACK
>COWARDS WILL BE SHOT
>FIX BAYONETS! CHARGE!

It's all copied from grimdark memes of the Red Army mixed with British trauma from World War 1. And yes, guard are super varied, but we're talking about the average guard regiment, and by all accounts, if you aren't Cadian, Elysian, Catachanian, Tallarian, or any of the other special Guard worlds, you're going to be using tactics straight out of the Battle of Somme, Enemy at the Gates, or Starship Troopers (the movie).
>>
>>97334478
They're the "conventional warfare" army for people who like sci fi, as opposed to people who were too dumb for historicals but still wanted to yell "FIX LE BAYONETS xD"

>>
>>97334615
I recently picked up a box of the new Cadians with the intent of following Duncan's latest guide on how to make Gue'vesa. I've been considering making them breachers, but it seems like it would be a massive pain in the ass with how the new Cadian's are modelled. Might just fall back on making them a Strike team, and make a proper Tau breacher squad after. Besides, I like idea of how Tau in the 3rd ed codex (their initial release) were entirely benevolent. They absolutely wouldn't put auxillaries up front just to save their own lives, they would use them were they could provide the greatest benefit to all.

Pic semi-related. Some of my 3rd ed themed Tau models.

Votann are a redesign/overhaul of the Squats army that was canceled in the 3rd edition and then brought back in the 9th edition so they have fundamentally similar lore being space dwarfs who are abhumans genetically engineered to be miners during the DAoT but the nulore is that they are clones created in vats by all powerful AI 'ancestor cores' that hold the memories of all squats after they die and shit. They still hate tyranids too.

The Kin, which is the nu-squat name, have been isolated from the larger bulk of humanity since the end of the DAoT due to it sucking ass to get into the core. The imperium has little interest in the core as baseline humans are not designed to survive in high gravity worlds and they are mostly unaware of the pocket empires of the votann spread through there. "Squat" is a term used by the Imperium as an official designation for Homo Sapiens Rotundus, the abhuman subspecies found on Necromunda. The Demiurge who are allied with the Tau are another corporation of Votann Kin because the Kin don't really care as long as they're getting paid in precious space minerals.

The old lore where squats got destroyed by the tyranids has been repurposed into a Votann kinworld being devoured by nids, creating a mad ancestor core and a region of space that Kin don't go to because it's cursed. Votann Kin regularly fight Tyranids as they are an existential threat and there's one nigga out there that's like the White Dwarf who travels around wth his tyranid trophy fighting them.

The Kin also appear in Horus Heresy as the Militia rules allow you to basically homebrew an army of Squats and Squats are confirmed to have existed and fought in the Heresy (though there is no "Squat prospector militia" official heresy army) so they were also in 30k. But the bulk of Votann have always existed outside the imperium as the emperor never signed treaties with them like the admech. The Votann leagues avoid too much contact with the imperium as they don't want to get anschluss'd or purged for using AI since imperium hate AI but Votann leagues luv me AI simple as.

They exist I suppose as tripartite compromise between the desire for more xenos/bringing the squats back, the desire for abhumans and the desire for some kind of DAoT tech representation in 40k.
>>
>>97335301
The necromunda squats are Kin, their Votann ancestor core is lost somewhere on Necromunda and is possibly one of the reasons for the weird STCs the hiver gangs have.

Things influence people and they think being a fan of the Imperium without having struggle sessions to condemn it at every turn will lead little timmy to joining atom waffen or even worse in their eyes becoming a republican.

Marine sizefaggotry knows no bounds. Eldar are taller than humans in a lanky way. Marines are like head above regular humans and fat so they should be about the same height but spoiler: primarisfags are REALLY insecure about their height.
>>
>>97335605
Scalewise Eldar models have always been basically normal humans with most of their parts even being interchangeable with human infantry.
It's only in the lore that they ever mention them all being extra tall. And only sometimes. Visual depictions vary wildly.

>While Titus and friends are fighting around Ultramar, things are no more rosy for the rest of the Ultramarines. We find out that Agemmann and Ferrien Aerios are fighting hard against the Word Bearers on Dhorvinus, while his entire battle front moves forward. However, some belief that Agemmann has bitten off more than he can chew with his battle plan. Captain Portan is dealing with the fact that the Alpha Legion has enslaved the people of Krasdinor and preventing them from doing their jobs, while (presumably) Typhus begins to work his own schemes. Decimus Felix fights on Jawardet, where the Nekrosor’s agents and their Flayed Ones have been pushing Nurgle-infested civilians into other civilian spaces in order to spread Grandfather’s Gifts. Captain Balthus pushes forward to the west at a blistering pace, the field commanders exhausted and claiming over-extension, while an Inquisitor tries to discover proof that the Ultramarian Reclamation is nothing more than the foulest heresy since the Age of Apostacy. Balthus is also setting up additional Apothecarions on these worlds in order to produce new Battle Brothers for his Chapter.

>Looks like Primarchs focused narrative is back on the menu
Primarch centered narratives are rare even in 40k.
Only ones we have are Gathering Storm in 2017 which was about Guilliman returning, no shit it involves him.
Godblight which came out in 2021, 4 years later.
Arks of Omen which started in 2023 right before 9th edition ended and 10th began, which brought back Lion but his role was extremely minor anyway.
It's been like 3-4 years since the last time when GW focused on any loyalist primarch.

The made-to-order box is pretty poorly suited to how Sisters are played - you get small units of Repentia and Flagellants, both of which want big units when run (and neither of which has exactly been a mainstay this edition). The newer CP at least has some Sacresants, which have been an absolute staple in recent months, although that's 1x5 of a unit that many tournament lists run as 3x10.
>>
>>97336059

I mean realistically even if Guilliman up and redid the entire Imperium's administrative base, it would take literally centuries at best before anyone outside of maybe the Segmentum Solar felt any of the effects of it. Warp travel is slow, the flow of information is barely faster with astropaths, and all of that administrative base would take time to dismantle and replace because as shitty as the Imperium is at large, some people actually are doing important work that can't just be halted right away.

He didn't even really do that.
Only thing that happened was that some of the High Lords plotted against him and tried a coup by killing Guilliman, obviously this failed, and expectedly G-man has all of the traitors executed and he then installs new replacement High Lords.

Other thing he did is take a look at the Imperial Calendar.
He just appointed and organized some historians, archivists to basically create a timeline of events of what has happened in the past 10 000 years so he can get up to speed since he was in stasis.
Only for him and his scholars figure out to their horror that the imperial records are full of partial information/records, propaganda, straight up lies, myths, legends that the current time according to the Calendar can be anywhere between M39 and M42.

And this then has caused the once disappeared Ordo Chronos come back crawling out of the woodwork which then sparked the Chronostrife. Which is a small scale war within the Inquisition where they are arguing what is the correct date according to the Imperial Calendar.
>>
>>97336069
Horus Heresy 2.0 wouldn't even be able to mix up the sides at all without invalidating existing armies though so it would just be exactly the same conflict with exactly the same belligerents on the same sides.
The drama of the Horus Heresy comes from the layered betrayals, not the conflict itself. They couldn't very well replicate that in any way without a loyalist Primarch going traitor or a traitor Primarch turning loyalist.

Exodite Units I am planning to make to add a more authentic, multi-faction feel to my Ynnari:

Forest Blades (Ynnari Wyches) - Created by combining Wyches, Kabalite Warriors and WFB Eternal Guard/Wildwood Rangers

Glade Revenants (Wraithblades) - Created by mixing AoS Kurnoth Hunters and Wraithblade bits

Revenant Prince (Spiritseer) - AoS Tree-Revenant parts combined with the Warlock and Spiritseer kits

The Reborn Prince (Wraithlord) - This model I've yet to decide on. Either it will be a mix of Wraithlord parts and the AoS Lady of Vines, or a Treelord Ancient.

If you have any reference to that not being the case in the 3rd edition book, tell and I’ll check it out.

NTA and I don't know why that post in particular got you onto the idea of Blood Bowl. But uhh I'll try and sum up my general impression of it:

>ultimately nothing fundamental has changed about the gameplay but there are a lot of little inadvertent rule changes as a result of SG rules writers all being illiterate and apparently not allowed to just copy old verbiage from better written editions forward
>rosters are where the biggest shake ups are and most of it is baffling because it came from the corpo mandate of trying to edge out 3rd parties offering better products by writing rules that only suit GW's products... except they couldn't even do that. Teams that were previously allowed to bring up to 4 of a position that a GW box only has 2 of can now only bring 2, presumably with the idea that players can start the game with only one box per team... except they still can't because there aren't enough linemen in most boxes and many teams have extra positions they really want like big guys or in the case of goblins literally everything but linemen, so new players will still be upset about the buy-in. And attempt was made to buff the teams hit worst by this by buffing the positions that they are still allowed to bring, which has had results ranging from "fucking nothing" to "orcs now murder every rookie team in the game and also develop faster than any bash team in a league".
>>
>>97336553
If the shoulder pauldron were red instead of green it would read as the traditional medical symbol

>>97336159
It was a failed idea of souping the eldar factions together that should have been squatted 2 editions ago.
>>

Think Sisters are gonna get something? I got pick related and their old Combat Patrol a while back because I wanted to start their army but due to quite a lot of deaths in my family I was not in the mood and I didn't have the strength to actually start them.

Is there any hope for something new besides the Kill Team?
I might start Custodes for a smaller project if they have no chance of anything new and just wait to see how their 11th Edition will look like.

>what could sisters get?
Tactical yuri couple named characters. During your turn you can swap them between two modes: wholesome yuri where they share damage, gain invulns, and heal one another (as well as nearby units that bask in their wholesome glow) so long as their bases are touching and toxic yuri where they deal one wound to one another if the bases are touching but also do increased damage to everyone around them (and making nearby allies do more damage, their troubled hearts looking to lash out after witnessing such toxic yuri)

More seriously, I think it'd be neat if SoBs went back to being a more rounded "Ecclesiarchy" army with more pilgrims, crusaders, priests, etc, but at the same time I do enjoy the focus on nuns with guns so I'm a bit conflicted on what to suggest. Except biker nuns, it's an absolute crime we still don't have biker nuns.

warp travel is incredibly unreliable, going from the tip of a spiral arm to the opposite side of galaxy it could be assumed this would take at least years, considering warp travel relies on warp routes that act as gates that fluctuate. In addition to Abby the Crabby, you primarch if you have one.
Maulerfiends do well in melee... for their cost.
Forgefiends used to be great but are a bit costly now.
Daemon Princes, especially winged, can do good in casual games. Have to use them carefully in competitive.
At the very least, most daemon princes can be distraction carnifexes and draw enemy fire from your more important units.

The reason many women look so attractive and have clean skin nowadays is unironically because many of them use skincare products like suncream and anti-aging shit that preserves their faces in 'youth' until they get to their mid-thirties, by which time things like creases and general wear are unavoidable.
Ever seen Britbong thirty/fourty year old women in run down areas? Ever notice that some of them borderline look like trolls? The men aren't much better. These sisters look exactly like them. It's not an unrealistic or 'woke' portrayal. 40k is largely based on Britain, after all. This is just what many 'downtrodden' women end up looking like.

something that helps greatly in keeping the sections look organically part of each other despite the modularity would be making all sections part of some mega-industrial sector, and with that frame in mind the 6 most diverse parts I can imagine involving such a board would be
>enormous acid vat (with walkways that may or may not be broken in places, and perhaps some big mutant kraken swimming visible in the resin pour)
>plasma energy generator (use a functioning plasma ball lamp and hide the cables and stuff with scenery, can have walkaways all around the sphere too)
>scrapyard (piles and piles of junk, destroyed tanks and perhaps even a fallen titan, all dominated by a large mechanical claw hanging over the area)
>spaceship building bay (one part of a voidfaring vessel being under construction/destruction/repair, complete with cutaway of the claustrophobic innards and at least one broadside macrocannon)
>admech churches (tallest section of the board, tall spires, towers, statues and plenty of sniper nests)
>void bomb fallout area (cordoned with weird poles, the area within is a taste of a hellscape from the warp, with craters full of skulls, floating islands, portals left and right, and, in the most ideal situation, every surface being done with magnetic sheets so you can play with models standing upside down if they're magnetised)

I use Da Vinci Series 10 size 0 for detail work, it keeps its tip sharp and really nice to work with. And Army Painter's Regiment Brush for basecoating stuff, I'm sure there are better alternatives to it.
For very small details like the eyes, I've heard people swear by Winsor & Newton's Miniature brushes size 00 but that thing is ridiculously expensive. I don't bother painting them so can't speak from experience. Cheap synthetic ones are good for applying metallics and stuff like washes and contrasts type paints, which are hard on the brush.

For me it's the cobbled together look of boyz armor.

If you take care of them properly they will last you years but no matter how well you do it you will lose the fine tips eventually. They'll still be perfectly usable for less precise work though. Best practices to make them last longer is avoiding getting paint into the ferrule, not letting anything dry on them and cleaning after every session. People also say to avoid metallics and washes/contrasts but I use these for everything if the need arises and didn't notice any difference in their lifespan. I usually have to replace the one for super detail work every 6-8 months and I paint pretty much every day.

The whole point of primaris and CSM refresh was to make them completely different from each other. Not that that stops GW from reusing the same primaris CAD assets from time to time but broadly speaking the ranges are meant to be unique so if they got bikes they definitely wouldn't be primaris bikes.

This anon is right though, you should be more worried about them getting helbrute'd

If Tau women actually looked like this half their books would include rape because no high test human male would pass on this
>>
>>97337931
Aeldari women are canonically extremely sexually attractive to humans.
There is not a single mention of rape in the lore.

Nonsense. Dark Eldar exist. It just doesn't go the way that you are implying should.

You ever have a conversion/kitbash idea that's simply too prohibitively expensive? I once had the idea of recreating Vashtorr entirely out of Necron parts, but that shit would end up being like $500 to make just a single model.

... Wouldn't that just be the Void Dragon?

I dont know why this made me laugh.

That's aspirational. If you don't mind me asking, how much do you usually spend on the detail brush?
>>
>>97337987
Remember when CSM arbitrarily limited the ratio of cultists to marines you could take?
>>

I just enjoy it, not that much to it honestly. Anyway I use the Rosemaries mentioned earlier and the smaller ones from Series 33 cost like $10-$11 a piece. I do plan to give W&N a try soon though because a couple anons in /wip/ said they're better(but more expensive).
