Repeating a question from last thread, do the Classless in Isekai Bounty Hunter still level up?
>>97357547No. The only leveling system classless have is potentially earning the chance for elemental attunement.
>>97357547obviously not
>>97357556>>97357564Then how does one “grow your soul” enough to actually obtain a class independent of the available selections, as mentioned in the Classless description? I was under the impression you’d grow your soul through the same process of leveling up, you just wouldn’t benefit from skills, stats, and inherent magics to the class system. Essentially flat levels with no skill trees.
>>97357547No, but they can become stronger by developing their soul. This is vastly harder to do without the class structure, hence the reward discount.

>>97357582No. "Leveling" isn't the universal way to grow your soul, it's just one particular way that was easier than the other options. The description for Elemental Attunement is clear there are many other options, but they're Waaaaay more annoying to deal with.

>>97357624>heavy, and required lots of training to not die of exhaustion mid-combat.lmao what are you on about
>>97357603Maybe it’s the lack of clear implications, because my misunderstanding seems to be based on “if not leveling, then what?” The god offers a leveling course to 15, so if a Classless performs that course in the exact same way as someone with a class would they receive zero benefit? Or is there an ephemeral growth that takes place similar to meditation or, I’m sorry to even say this, but cultivation wherein one grows their soul through hard work, effort, and understanding of the metaphysical world?
Wait. I stand corrected. It turns out even soft shitty musket balls will penetrate knight armor. Hm.
>taking the baitYou guys do realize he plays all angles >>97357433
>>97357680It depends on the knight armour and the quality of the gunpowder. Early on, gunpowder sucked and it would often fail to penetrate at range, but as time went on, platemail fell off and people started wearing less armour as there was no consistent protection from gunfire. A suit of armour that was enchanted and/or forged from supernatural materials could likely resist gunfire without any serious issues. Assuming the wearer doesn't have their organs liquefied by the shockwave.

>>97357864In a direct fight with the setting's strongest peak magic users, dragon-guns-tower-man would probably lose, but he'd probably defeat average or advanced mages without difficulty.Though, I am somewhat hesitant introducing guns into the setting at all. I'm not really a fan of them conceptually. But going against the kind of things I like and designing a character antithetical to my ideal aesthetics might be perfect for The Tower...?But like I said, good images of anime dragon-men with guns are rare. If I end up picking one theme or the other, I think I'd go with dragon-man instead of guns-man.>>97357909Justice's character is already pretty fleshed out (at least in my head), and Judgement was mostly written for me before I started this CYOA.Empress is currently leaning towards Oberon from Fate (TY to whoever suggested him!), while Emperor is currently leaning towards Feo Ul from Final Fantasy. Though, one completely different idea I had is to just take the wings from a fairy's image, pixelate those wings with https://pixel-me.tokyo/en/ (the species are pixely retro "fairies" - picrel is the WIP race description which might be a bit too wordy and still needs to be edited a bit)), and then attach them to whichever femboy/tomboy character I like. It'll either look great or look like complete trash; still need to experiment a bit. If and only if I can make it look good, it'll be a great way of fleshing out the species' traits and give me a much greater selection of characters to work with.

>>97358304Doesn't the loss of mystery bother you? I can see the appeal of figuring out how magic works, but if I wanted a rigorous system that is already fully articulated I would choose something more along the lines of science. This is not to say that one is necessarily the opposite of (or even inherently different than) the other. Ultimately I can see the point about the scientific method being some all-encompassing thing that should be able to break down and understand anything, but I think you could probably make an argument that magic is the same (ie anything can be "magic"), and if nothing else it's just fun to have a catch-all term for things that we either don't or can't understand - stuff that is seemingly miraculous. I'm interested to know how much of this eternal debate is actually perpetuated by people who believe strongly one way or the other. In my isekai setting guns exist and no one uses them except for tryhards because everyone is supernaturally tough by default due to the existence of a health and defense stat. Armor piercing rounds wouldn't even hurt a basic guard due to the defense stat. Guns are only viable with magic bullets in which case it's like firing an arcane blast of energy at that point and you wouldn't need a gun to do it, you would rather have a staff in most cases, but the advantage is that you can transcribe seals and runes into each individual bullet for more powerful one shot effects.but yeah lmao military squad blasting you with an AK wouldn't even kick dust off the floor. get fukt.

>>97358609yeah I clarified this over here >>97358575it's just ultimately not worth it, each bullet would need to be made of that rare material and is one use only. much better to just fire arcane shots made of your own mana but at that point you can do it with a staff so why bother. basically it's just wildly ineffecient. you have to be an autistic weeb to make guns work and it has a social stigma of tryhards since kids will fantasize about John Wick action gunfu in my setting. "ugh, really?" or "what a waste of good ultratitanium..." will be the reaction of most people.imagine for a second that Adamantium or Orchalium or Mythril or whatever fantasy metal existed, and in order to fire it with a gun, you have to make it into a bullet. and then launch it. when the going rate for a brick of that raw mineral would be like 1000 gold or more. Or it can be a sword that never wears out, or a staff that lets you fire arcane blasts as a default action (not a spell, it's the mage's default attack with a staff that any magic class can use). and for thieves or sneaky dexterity types the loudness of a firearm typically isn't worth it, and using a suppressor also isn't worth it, unless you're a weeb assassin or something but even then you'd probably discard the gun and could just use a poison or dagger instead...>>97358633other way around, gunfags suck in any setting that respects a health and defense stat. btw, I haven't even explained the health stat yet, but having an HP bar is pretty convenient. no sudden dismemberment or puncturing an artery without a skill or specific effect. imagine not respecting defense. get FUKT gunfags. also, golems > drones, so get fukt again.

Unlike a bow and arrow, a gun doesn't need a million hours of experience to get good with and can be used by a level 1 newb(while the bow would need a user the same level as the gun).A single bullet also uses less metal than a sword by a factor of 300 or more, and that not even factoring you only need to jacket the bullet rather than make it pure. An unbreakable material would also mean the bullets are just as recoverable as arrows, just enchant them with returning. If anything, you've just outlined why guns would be the primary weapon Everyone would use.>TL;DR: None of your reasons actually make any sense if you go to the hard math.

>>97358772putting a returning seal on bullets when impact with a target who has sufficient defense will damage the bullet. Have you never seen bullets colliding with targets? They bend and are damaged. The huge advantage that bows have over guns is that your actual strength and dexterity can be added to the shot, unlike guns which do not scale at all. They're stuck always doing 10 dps while the bow and arrow scale across your entire journey. An archer at level 1 will deal 10 dps, and the archer at level 100 will deal 980 dps, using the same shitty training bow, while the gunner is stuck at 10 dps the entire time and needing to fork over thousands of gold just to get his ammo and repair his guns with maintenance fees.Rare materials are rare materials so yes you can convert a brick of some rare metal into bullets but it's stuck at 500 base damage same as a sword but the sword is much more enchantable and you can use a series of established techniques while a gunfag can only squeeze their trigger or preload a single, MAYBE two, spell seals onto said bullet. I don't think you understand how tiny a bullet is, and the seal has to be inscribed on the surface of the bullet because a smith sure as fuck doesn't have the magical expertise to inside magical seals within the center of the bullet as they're just forming the shell and you write the seal on the surface of said bullet.again, the bullets dent and are bent or are destroyed outright when being fired at a target of comparable defensive value, even if a return seal for the ammo survived such a clash against armor or even just the naked skin of a high enough level guy, you're gonna get a piece of scrap at most which you'll have to take to a smith who will give you a look of disgust and upcharge you +50% for wasting his time forcing individual bullets from dented and worn out rare metals that could've been formed into a fantastic sword or staff instead. actually, make it +100% upcharge, dumb gunweeb.

>>97359001so first of all I explained how one material, the spidersilk mana thread, can be used to take the full weight of the draw strength so the wood of the bow doesn't bend. Most of the weight of the draw is supported by the string itself due to its magical properties and it always automatically adjusts to account for the strength of the wielder. It's weird magical shit and is an esoteric property of that specific material itself. This is what basic bows are made of since it's cheap and readily available. So a master archer with 999 str/dex can show up and fire a full power shot from any bow without damaging it. because I actually think of these things and have explanations for it. That is the default string used in all bows in my setting. now, if you want advanced bows, you just need to kill an animal and use its body parts to create a new and superior thread for your bow string. like those made from unicorns, or dragons, or your mom. either way, the end result is a strong bow that outperforms a gun at all levels.this is pretty damn simple, I'm barely even trying with my replies and you're all getting blown out.
>>97359053damn you btfo him! so, where do i play this setting of yours?
>>97359072damn you got me, my OC isn't done yet.i'm still making it, and i'm open for suggestions. not for gunfags tho, i want them to suffer.
>>97358772>A single bullet also uses less metal than a swordThe gun is made of metal too, and a handgun and a sword are around the same weight.
>>97358985>shotguns can shoot shortkek such blatant vidya-ism. "he's shit at FPS games" is so obvious now
>>97359053>can be used to take the full weight of the draw strength so the wood of the bow doesn't bendIf it doesn't put any weight on the wood, why would the archer even need higher strength to draw it? The strength requirement for drawing a bow is the counter-forces between the string and the arc. If there's no force on the arc, your level 1 archer would be able to draw a level 999 bow for level 999 archer damage.
>>97359083>The gun is made of metal tooAnon, have you ever held a gun before?, the majority of the gun is NOT made of metal.
>>97359100>anon is already hacking the system for infinite damage at level 1
>>97359100read the next line, that first sentence was a typo... I knew one of you autists would get hung up over that even though i clarified it immediately after. but that is correct otherwise, i apologize for my mistake. if I hadn't made that bad sentence this wouldn't have happened. so i admit it was my fault and won't hold it against you.
>>97359053>>97359124Anon, by making every monsters tendons out of similar material, every monster in your setting would have the strength of superman far and above what their stat spread would say.Having tendon strength and clench force scale off the force put on it, up to infinity, means that monsters would get stronger the more force/weight they're dealing with.
>>97359124Build a machine that applies more strength than you can, like a crossbow is designed to do. Now your bow can hit many levels above you weightclass.
gonna post this, then Desert Lotus, then make a build for all three
>>97359169
>>97359145the tendon method scales as you'd expect.so let's say you kill a centaur and use its monster parts in your bow, it'll scale accordingly and will have a suitable durability appropriate to that monster. but if you instead kill a stronger creature like a hydra and use a piece of its tongue instead, then yeah, you'll have an even stronger bow. it's a whole system and it makes sense within its own logic. the default material for a bow is the special spider thread I mentioned before, it's like an automatic adjuster to power and the bow it's attached to. it is very autistic>Having tendon strength and clench force scale off the force put on it, up to infinity, means that monsters would get stronger the more force/weight they're dealing with.this is correct though, the stronger the monster the better the bow you can construct, but there is a limit unlike with the basic spidersilk mana thread (however this takes away too much power, while other materials allow you to exert more of it, even though the spidersilk mana thread is common and widespread).>>97359167I haven't thought of how to handle crossbows but naturally they'll be infinitely superior to guns as well. yes, I have double standards.

>>97359229that's right, Anon, just let go of all the pain. use a bow and arrow instead of a gun. real world physics don't matter. the real world can't hurt you anymore!>>97359230in my setting the weapon itself will come with durability by default, but maintenance can be done to upkeep it. it's very simplified. even a gun will have enhanced durability. the difference is most smiths will look at you like you're a weirdo gunslinger weeabo (it's like how we romanticize katanas or something, so think of taking your cold steel edgesword to a european smith who judges you for not just using a longsword, that's the equivalent).>>97359246yeah, I suppose you can use a higher rank gun for this. they could be treated like expensive flintlocks and disposable one use items. so a level 1 scrub who grabs a level 50 gun can use it to easily take out a level 20 guard he would otherwise have no chance against. yeah, I guess that's definitely the strong suit of guns, but good luck finding one at that level. said level 20 guard will likely survive several bullets depending on his hp and armor/defense values even from a level 50 gun.my main point is that they're niche and mostly impractical, but there are definitely some situations where you can use a gun. Actually, that's perfect! thanks Anon! i'll make it so you can choose an upper mid tier gun as a starter item as a starting boon. it'll basically act as an Indiana Jones "get out of jail" free card at low levels and that's about it. i'm glad I went through all these posts, you gave me a good idea.
>>97359246>Combine Magic lightning creator + Magic lightning absorber into a railgun that shoots metal stakesalso you can absolutely do this and I encourage this, railgun > actual gunbut my oc runs off of anime physics so it's slightly different to our real world physics>>97359289yes actually, that basic string will be used in a lot of devices. including pic related.

its kinda fascinating how utterly moronic things can get when they do their damndest to make a specific thing bad but everything else good, like seriously, why not put together the gun and staff and get something with far more accuracy than a staff but greater magical performance than a regular gun, why not make gunpowder or smth that scales with stats as well, why not make a system for infinite ammo of any type so long as you feed it a single bullet of that type but that ammo cant be melted into a sword or smth and as such doesnt break the economy of rare metals, why not do what settings like class change hero and jrpg traitor did and give guns and bullets their own benefits like far higher damage potential or the ability to have homing shots or whatever else that can be done on the fly cause the gun is also a staff kinda and not a bow, how about introducing cannons and artillery guns that are much better than bows and whatnot unless theyre high quality ones wielded by hero tier characters, etctheres all kinds of ways one could improve guns to make them usable in just about any setting and if youre willing to make so many concessions to make bows scalable then why not guns unless youre just a toklet who cant stop crying about guns being bad and you cant have fun with them, etc

>>97358985i love how he doesnt acknowledge that ALL COMBAT is just being a coward and hiding behind shit as you try and attack the other guy, whether that be a wall, a shield, your armor, the reach of a spear or sword, etc, also even with swords there arent always counterplays, there can be counter attacks but that can only go so far especially if theres an equipment difference or theres a skill difference, note swords were never the main weapon of combat it was always the spear and ranged weapons, swords were sidearms at best or were used in areas you werent able to bring a polearm or use a ranged weapon, also like, just make shields that can block bullets if that makes them okay in your eyes, which, it probably wont, but then i can slap you with bows and crossbows going through shields two often enoughalso, all the wrongness of the second section makes my head spin, especially as i watch badger and ive seen him use a sniper in melee and a shotgun as a sniper rifle

>>97359338im not lost im just saying youre doing all these things to make bows good in your setting but leaving out specifically firearms despite them having similar issues (note how everything you said about ammunition issues can be taken with arrows as well just less so with the spell tag thing but even then) just cause youre mad guns are so good, and i get to say that cause im a crossbow lover who seethes about guns and bows outdoing crossbows in just about everything, doesnt stop me from recognizing that guns are good, doesnt stop me from being inclusive, nor does it stop me from loving crossbows

>>97359521Why are you lying anon
>>97359380yes, Anon, i'll admit it, i hate guns. i specifically designed my universe to screw guns over. but to be honest i didn't do much that common sense wouldn't cover. just think about it and if a fantasy setting has defense and hp as stats that means guns are not worth using. bow and arrow takes less technological skill to make and maintain, and arrows are easier to craft than specific bullet sizes, and enchanting arrows is an easier process than enchanting each individual bullet as you have more surface area to carve runes and stuff into. guns are not effective fantasy weapons and i'll stand by that. also, with crossbows, I did just think of a way to solve it. by cranking and loading the bolt you have to exert your own strength which gets sealed into the launching mechanism so it retains your physical ability and thus scales with you as well. guns don't require you to physically load each bolt so they can't benefit from this. yeah, I guess I solved it. repeating crossbow bolts would have to have a similar loading mechanism but would suffer from reduced power in exchange for more shots... there we go, solved.

>>97359582Funny thing, Ridicule from Umineko is currently in first place for my dragon-tower-guns-man's musical theme.
>>97359582Actually the setting is already almost solvedLike how A waterwheel turns a unified motion into a rotational motion and then into a back and forth motion, one could use the magic silk trivially to create an endless back and forth motion, convert that into a rotation, increase the torque of said rotation with a gear exchange and then use said high torque spinning gear to load a crossbowThen said cross bow can have a level 999 bowstring without the user needing to be lvl999 himself, allowing one to kill some demon lord or whatever an gain all of the lands riches(Instead of carrying multiple crossbows you would have each crossbow contain like 4-7 strings and fire them separately)It would only take a few months of work to set up. Effectively freeNot to mention that one could use a bucket on rails system to industrialize key mining infrastructure(Note that one can strengthen a given bowstring using coils and things, it would not necessarily need to be a highly expensive one)
>>97359532>arrows are easier to craft than specific bullet sizesOne of the benefits of early guns was that casting lead balls was easier than making arrows. Soldiers would often carry casting kits with them to recast spent balls. I can understand making an enchanting system where arrows are easier to enchant. In fact I've actually always liked the idea of making arrows from tightly rolled scrolls that are glued down to a core of some magic fuel. However arrows take a lot more work than using a camp fire some lead, as well as an iron mold and ladle. Even when you get to modern bullets with a full metal jacket, brass casing, and a primer it's still easier to make than a good arrow. Though there are some exotic armor piercing ammo types that would surpass a good arrow in difficulty to manufacture without modern equipment.
