>status effects cripple every unit beyond the base effectyou know maybe I should take some vulturax...
>>97358503Vulturax are just good. So yea, probably.
>>97358503The weapon profiles also have some solid damage output, don't get why you don't see as many people use vultarax. Maybe it really is the resin model debuff.
>>97358536I think its because theyre kinda derpy looking. Theyre this weird fat fly thing that doesent look very threatening or powerful in the big stompy robots faction. They might be borderline OP, but theyre just not cool.
>>97358527>>97358503>>97358536If you're a mech player a pair of vultarax is a great investment, massive annoyances to the pesky dreadnoughts and kratoses, super durable compared to their cost, and in the late game if your opponent has failed to deal with them they can switch to easily status blasting and charging their backline tac squads to deny them the last few turns of scoring
>>97358546That's you lacking taste, vultarax are super cool. Progenitors to the blight drones, but bigger and bulkier.
>>97358619And yet blight drones (the old FW ones anyways) look far cooler, both because the fly motif actually fits nurgle and because theyre like 50% gun by volume. The vulturax looks like it has two havoc launchers, which on something as massive as it? Lame.
>>97358593how many points is that list in the pic anon, give us a rundown?
>>973586363k probably
>>97358636This specific one, 2750 points, we're nearing the end of an escalation league. All I have to do to upgrade it to the full 3k is add a domitar and 6 more thallax with melta bombs, both of which j already have painted. I'm tempted to instead switch to my full cybernetica list for the finale though, fellas in the club have started getting wise to my thallax shenanigans and bringing more flamers, I need to show em I'm not just a one trick pony.
>>97358335 #>the binary nature of (Instant Death) was bullshitThe binary nature of that rule meant both lowly power fist Sergeants and paragon blade Praetors needed to get lucky only once. Ain't that a proper game of chance?
>>97358959Thats great, but it also subsequently made T5 (or "battle hardened" essentially invincible. You can dream about "isnt it really cool and fun that characters can get pasted by high damage attacks!", but thats a far less relevant part of the rule than the fact that you cannot mess with statlines without making weapons useless.
>>97358959Not when there is an abundance of weapons and units with high enough strength attacks in high quantity that it doesn't down to "having to be lucky once"
>>97359003I am aware of how much a single point of toughness changes things. Namely, being T5, which is all the more common now with Terminators getting it.But all the more for it, a meta would emerge. Terminator characters might wield a chainfist, never used in duels, in the hopes of IDing their equals. Or they might trust the higher overall damage their hammers provide. Or they'll take a fist and ensure the death of any power armoured foe.Meanwhile, artificer praetors would hope their paragon blades kill before those guys get to swing.Sadly, this doesn't attain the relevance I had hoped for regular sergeants, who still strike last but can't hope land any hit on the targets you want because Hidden Power Fist can't be a thing when casualties are decided by the controlling player
>>97358959>Ain't that a proper game of chance?>everything is rocket tag is good!Noted. Personally I think characters taking a 2nd hit (or, if youre a terminator third hit! isnt that spooky!) is a rather small price to pay for weapon statlines being more flexible and certain unit types not being fundamentally cancerous to deal with (monsters of all sorts for a start). It also means you can have units with higher than average toughness without breaking something, and finally have "big gun" be a viable weapon archetype rather than everything beyond S8/9 being functionally identical, so you need to give out multiple shots to weapons for no good reason, pushing a one-size-fits-all generalism rather than specialised weapons for tasks.
>>97359120Is there any S10 gun that isn't also multiple Damage though?
>>97359123Terminators wouldn't be instakilled by any melee weapon weaker than a S10 Chainfist, anon. That is available only to other terminators, and they are also D2+. The only thing that would change would be for artificer officers, really
>>97359125>>97359080
>>97359120>Namely, being T5, which is all the more common now with Terminators getting it.Which could never have been done if instant death, rather than damage, were the system. That change would have rendered terminators into unkillable monstrosities. God forbid T6 3W saturnines, what would you even shoot them with? >Hidden Power Fist can't be a thing when casualties are decided by the controlling playerWhat are you on about anon? "the controlling" player is the guy who owns the models, so YOU. You pick who dies unless the opponent has a special rule to the contrary. But "plucky sgts" are certainly less of a thing this edition, between having fewer attacks and not being able to challenge without a prime advantage theres really no situation where your lucky powerfist sarge pastes the enemy praetor (not that it was happening much before either)
>>97358462>>97358593No offense but these set ups don’t look particularly fun or interesting. What do you all like about these, assuming you play with them?
>>97359156Are you talking about the terrain or the armies? That terrain wasn't for during the game, it was afterwards, I try to take cool army pictures whenever I bring my boys out.
>>97359152I'm saying no matter how many strikes you land on the Praetor's unit outside a duel (which sarges can't do now), the Praetor will always be the last guy to dieAlso, it seems I'm not explaining myself? I'm not talking about doing Instant death without Multi Damage. I'm saying both: whatever doesn't instakill a Saturnine, you'll have to whittle down with multi D...which is how it's done literally right now?
/hhg/, I seek to complete my Word Bearers armyI have>WB Terminator Praetor>Base WB Praetor>Saturnine Terminator Squad (Running as Phraetus, ideally, with Plasma Bombards)>Legion Champion>Tactical Squad>Jump Pack Assault Squad>Cataphractii Terminators (Two 5-man squads; one with Power Fists & a Flamer, the other with Claws)>Redemptor w/ Flamer Fist & Volkite>Spartan Assault Tank>Predator w/ Battle Cannon, Vulkite Sponsons, & Heavy Bolter>Mhara Gal>An Esoterist, kinda, sorta not reallyI'm considering getting Gal Vorbak for flavor, but Ashen Circle are also in stock and they look cool too. Also considering an actual Esoterist/Librarian.What's the most fun options I could go for in general that would help round out the army? I also have an unbuilt Tactical Squad that to make into something different.
>>97359139>Terminators wouldn't be instakilled by any melee weapon weaker than a S10 Chainfist, anonYes, which would rob some units of their intended niche (deathshroud, red butchers etc) while also turning every terminator combat into an unbearable slogging match where nothing much happens. Because even with the new S10 chainfists the attacks would be lowered. It would also mean that terminators are now immune to firepower. Well, not literally immune, but they would take twice as many shots, and there were already few guns effective at killing terminators at range. But now a full squad of lascannons firing in kills around one guy. In an edition with instant death as the "kill shit" rule, statlines have to be designed around the instant death thresholds, because its functionally a binary switch between "is destroyed by a weapon" vs "finds the weapon mildly inconvenient". This is fine when the game has lots of different factions and lots of different thresholds to consider, from t3 humans and eldar to necrons and orks at t5 to nids and demons that are t6+. But in the "Marines vs marines" game, where 99% of games are some flavor of marine mirror match and the marines vs marines is the mainline attraction? It creates for very linear hierarchies of options.
>>97359199Both, they just look so uninteresting.
>>97359156The first image is of a diorama dipshit, its not an actual game. Its literally in the filename. No one is playing on that table, theyre building a set-piece recreation of a battle from the narrative.
>>97359226Why would it rob Deathshroud of their niche when regular terminators still get killed by thunder hammer's D2? Stationary Lascannons would still kill them with their D2They wouldn't suffer instant death, but D2 would still kill them, anonHowever, I do maintain that a Lascannon should kill a 2W T4 Veteran, even if said Lascannon moved
>>97359218GVB are kinda cucked this edition. They lost their "gimmick" that made them remotely good (being t5 meant they could take hits which would oneshot terminators like champs) and without the dark brethren RoW WB are also lacking any real way to make them scarier for combat. They also lost damage (since they no longer get bonus attacks for charging) and their instant death claws are now not that, which also kinda stinks. All in all I think theyre in a rather sad state where they dont really do anything particularly well while remaining pretty expensive. Ashen circle seem a bit glass cannon-y, but they look really funny, you can drop like 40 flame templates per turn with them and thats just hilarious.
>>97359242Maybe I'm crazy but I would love to play on a table like that
>>97359278Its got production value but I dont think it would make for very good gaming. Its a big open flat space (to allow for lots of models to be placed on it for visual purposes) with very tall buildings (which works great for showing a defensive position, but which would be an insane advantage for a defender. This sort of high effort board can be really fun to play on, there was a club nearby which had some (not quite that impressive) boards and they were gorgeous. But that specific one is made to make for a good image above all else.
New player here - I like the look of Grav Rapiers and I want to paint them but what are they for? Are they only anti-vehicle or can they also blast Terminators and other things? Are they any good?
>>97359327Theyre not anti vehicle. They used to be, now? not so much. Theyre an infantry suppression weapon.Grav rapiers are anti infantry, they will shred power armor and also provide the very powerful pinning. They can also splash into disabling vehicles, not by killing them, but pinning a spartan or land raider is near enough the same as killing it. >are they goodYes. There are no bad rapier options.Bolters are super cheap, shred light* infantry (SA or whatever) and have good status application.Laser destroyers are arguably the most cost efficient AT in the game, certainly for legions.Quad Mortars are versitile and can get the insanely powerful panic(3) phosphex.Grav Rapiers are longer range than phosphex rapiers and cheaper, being a solid anti infantry weapon with a very relevant status.
>>97359327Graviton cannon rapiers are very good.>Small blast AP 3 strength 9>Pinning 2>Breaching 6>Shock (pinning) and 2 damage when stationaryThey are very good marine killers, and can lock infantry in place with pinning. Can also whittle down terminators whilst keeping them pinned in place. And the Shock(pinning) can come in clutch against vehicles, though with Str 9 and 2 damage a decently sized rapier squad can also destroy light vehicles. Very versatile unit. Main drawback is that with incoming shooting attacks you are forced to allocate the wounds to the guns, so they are relatively fragile. But the firepower you get for a cheap point value more than makes up for it.
>>97359242Why would you build a diorama that looks boring, you fucking retard
>>97359272Deep striking several flame templates does sound kinda fun
>>97359372You wouldnt dipshit, thats why they did it the way they did. The "excess" of showing "lore accurate" battles in terms of scale and scope makes it interesting, thats why people go to look at them to the point there's a little !museum of the things
>>97359362>They're not anti vehicle>Laser destroyers are arguably the most cost efficient AT in the gameBro's Kairos Fateweaver. One asscheek says the truth and the other lies.Unless you were talking about Quad launchers not being antitank. Yeah they aren't really
>>97359390It’s not interesting though you mong.Let me guess, you’re unemployed, have never touched a woman, and smell like stale milk.
>>97359392He meant graviton cannons specifically aren't anti vehicle, because that is the weapon the original anon asked about.
>>97359400I smell like your moms sopping wet pussy. She pays me to fuck her in the hopes she ends up with a child less disappointing than you.
>>97359433Ooof, what a nerd faggot comeback. You clearly can’t craft anything, your painting looks like middle school shit, and your taste is purely corporate

>>97359403Im so broke I can't even pay attention
>>97359450not yet please I'm so close
they should make a conversion beamer rapier carrier
>>97359659I also want conversion beamers on tech marines and forge lords back.
