Making a one shot for my LGSThese guys run pretty hard (But they're very forgiving and appreciate effort), I'm a newbie DM and my first one shot I was a dumbass and thought "Oh just use the CR rating in the book and that should be good, i'll make it "Hard" to give them a challenge..." they steamrolled it of courseSo I'm looking through the monster manual for a cool monster to build an adventure around. Hags caught my eye. They look pretty tough, have a cool story (I can make it a village and they can meet a 12yo girl thats about to turn 13...iykyk) so yeah 5 level 3 characters min/maxed vs a coven of 3 hags. Is that going to be a good match up?
What system, 5e? I assume so.Gotta pick a kind of hag too! I recommend Volo's Guide for more info on them.
>>97359583Shoot, thought I mentioned that, yet 5eI was thinking 2 greens a night hag to be the boss2 encounter campagin1 mildly easy encounter just to rough them up a bit outside townthey get to town, do some investigating, sleep for the night to get a rest to full *(and a dream sequence with the night hag fucking with them in their sleep)they find the coven and throw down
>>97359581Any hag beyond green will probably annihilate them unless they cheese it by out-speeding and out-ranging them (something like a team of all kensei monks, who knows).CR is fine, just too easy. Make the encounter around deadly and give the hag some tricks from her lair. Stuff like knowing where her teleports and back exits are to escape, or releasing a pack of quasits or sprites to slow them down while she runs out the back door. Remember, you can always pull a punch that hits too hard. Its much harder to toughen something that's weak
