Good game design interaction;
One player does a thing, the other player mitigates to minimize damage. Game and board state progress.

Bad game design interaction:
One player stops the game from happening. Game state is halted and high likely in favor of the player stopping the game from happening.

By the amount dick riding counterspells get it's like talking to nugioh shills.

Anon, i am talking about game design.
It's insane that i always get the same type of non-interactive contrarian answers every time.
You dont want to talk about the actual game? Don't answer. Don't engage. What's your actual problem?
All the insults and passive aggressive remarks only shows you are having an emotional reaction and that i'm completely right.
Even if by stereotypical fashion you're just trying to get a (you): Me replying to you only hones my rhetoric and further improves any criticism, thus i engage.
And if you still keep spamming insults, i will just make another on topic post talking about the game while ignoring you.

I know this is either bait or underage b& but. . .
The game state does progress when counterspells are used. First player burns a threat, second player burns interaction, both players presumably play land drops. Presumably the counter spell player benefits from games going longer and resolving higher quality spells, which is why they do it. The threat player wants to overload counter magic/removal and punch through, often by having their early plays get countered and curving into a bigger threat, or by having early plays stick and pressure the opponent turn over turn.
