Welcome to the Old School Renaissance General, the thread dedicated to first-decade, Gygaxian D&D, its faithful modern clones, and content created for use with them. Later editions (2e and newer) should be discussed elsewhere. Broadly, OSR games encourage a tonal and mechanical fidelity to Dungeons & Dragons played as intended by its creators from 1974 to 1983 — less emphasis on linear adventures and overarching metaplots and a greater emphasis on player agency. If you are new to the OSR, welcome! Ask us whatever you're curious about: we'll be happy to help you get started. We also have two excellent beginner guides created by Anons with feedback from the thread that you can check for help: >n00b DM's Guidehttps://pastebin.com/EVvt6P0B>n00b Player's Handbookhttps://pastebin.com/XALkXkV0 >Troves, Resources, Blogs, etc:http://pastebin.com/9fzM6128 >Need a starter dungeon? Want to contribute to the thread but don't know where to start? Use this table.>1. Make a spell>2. Make a monster>3. Make a dungeon special>4. Make a wilderness location>5. Make an urban set piece>6. Make a magic item>7. Make a class, race, or race-as-class>8. Make a 4-10 room lair.>9. Make a trap>10. Roll 2D10 and combine
>What's your favorite homebrew or third-party monster?I don't necessarily have a favourite one, but I find the plated monkeys from Stonehell unsettling.
>>97390490Answering my own question: genuinely, probably this thing I posted in the other thread. Incorporeal undead at low levels are nasty.

Gonna be playing in the Wilderlands of High Fantasy. Anyone used Simulacrum's hexcrawl stuff? How much would I have to adapt for 5-mile hexes instead of 6-mile hexes? Just one more default point?http://osrsimulacrum.blogspot.com/2020/05/making-wilderness-play-meaningful-system.html
>>97390578Why would you use that over the official rules? What are you trying to fix?

>>97390578I use it, yeah. But I've only used it for the intended 6-mile hexes, so I'm not sure about conversions.
>>97390578>>97390750If I were to use it, I wouldn't convert it at all, I'd just use it as is. In fact, I treat all 5-mile hexes as 6 miles if I'm playing B/X, and all 6-mile hexes as 5 miles if I'm playing AD&D. No reason to get a headache over it.
>>97390771This. The units are arbitrary, just as long as you keep them consistent.
>>97390800check out dungeon robber for the general idea(not posting in the hijack thread so replying here)

I am tinkering about altering the initiative. individual initiative but it's split in this way1. Declarations2. Morale3. Movement & Shooting (PCs and Monsters in order of initiative, draws at the same time)4. Melee & Magic (PCs and Monsters in order of initiative, draws at the same time)Some can do 3 and 4 in this way which is the only thing that gives me pause.
