I know GW shills are gonna be mad after reading this, but... when did you realize that busy, overdesigned models are NOT fun to paint and that miniature design peaked 20 years ago?
>>97393423I disagree
>>97393423>people are gonna be mad at me because i'm old, i'm lazy, i'm unskilled, and my eyesight is fadingHarsh shit man, wishing you the best of luck with all that.
It's hard to say it's an exclusively GW thing when most 3d modellers put even more detail than GW on their models. There's definitely demand for it.
>>97393423some models are bit much these days.but a lot of them are just really good and much better than anything they could do before. the new CSM legionaries are much better than the old ones. GSC Neophytes look better than any plastic kit they had back in the day.
it only bothers me when it's the basic footsloggersalso designs 20 years ago were busy as fuck too as much as fakegrogs like to pretend otherwise
Painting the rogal dorn tank was no fun for me because of all the details, also meant there was no room for decals. Felt very restrictive.
>>97393423as someone starting out i feel like the heavily trimmed and detailed models make it more difficult to learn the basics like blending and volumetric highlighting because every surface is broken up and the small details don't leave enough room for a beginner to grow beyond a simple shade&highlight. i like the plain primaris marines for this reason, lots of large simple surfaces for me to practice the basics. i'm building a rather plain contemptor dreadnought for that same reason.
>>97393689>also meant there was no room for decals. Are you decalfag? Looking at GW's paintjobs that's eight decals for the one without track guards, and ten for the one with. And that's assuming they masked and painted the kill markings on the barrel, otherwise that's another one to three decals. That's a ton of decals fora tank.
