For example you can make perfectly engaging and interesting stories about normal-ish people and even gods in Discworld despite the fact that Azazel WILL turn off the lights when the time comes. You can write a cool and intricate stories set in The Elder Scrolls universe despite the fact that it's a dream inside a dream. You can spin a nice story in The Chtulhu Mythos despite the fact that ultimately reality WILL break when Azathoth wakes up. And so on. I've spent thinking about the characters and reading/playing that cyoa for like three hours while I was fixing my kitchen sink and lights and then planning the build for two more while installing and cleaning new fish tank. It entertained me for hours while I was doing something else, and allowed me to imagine a specific story. That, to me, is what makes it neat. I've had fun daydreaming.
