>>97457901Beastiggers.
This thread is extremely low quality.
>>97458305Yeah but 1E Tieflings were heavily implied towards beastialism. Their inspiration was probably from The Island of Doctor Moreau.
>>97458396I highly doubt that. That art looks nothing like any of the creatures in the Island of Dr. Moreau and tieflings don't have any of the behaviours that define the creatures in that book.
>>97458417Just because they were not carbon copy, it doesn't mean so.
>>97458434They don't really share any inspiration at all. Besides the fact that they are "implied towards bestialism", what trait do they share with the well defined animal people as a metaphor for the failures of colonialism from the Island of Dr. Moreau? What visual inspiration do the chimeric early tieflings that are essentially humanoids with the traits of many animals share with Wells' animals twisted into a mockery of man?
>>97458466>failure of colonialism of the planes of existence>they were literally mockery of men that were as lowly as the beasts
>>97458396>their inspiration was probably from The Island of Doctor Moreau.anon don't be stupid tieflings are based on fucking satan and having kids that have horns, tails and goat stuff because of the associations of goats, horns and satanism since ye olde times not hg wells.
>>974583961E Tieflings don't exist. Planescape is explicitly a 2E setting.
>>97458485Big stretch. Tieflings are not "failures of colonialism". They are in fact a measure of its success. The Tiefling represents the constant press of the outer planes upon reality, and serve as universal other to those they encounter. They are not mockeries of men, they are men made like something else, are constantly shown to be able to adapt to new conditions, and most importantly are shown to be people who are people no matter their strangeness. They are entirely different from the animals in the Island of Dr. Moreau, who are not people, and are in fact animals that speech has been imposed upon with cruelty and subjugation, who return to the way of animals the second their master is gone.I don't understand why you think they're inspired at all. What makes you think that a DiTerlizzi tiefling looks anything like the creatures from the Island of Dr. Moreau?
>>97457901Beastfolk, for people-like animals.Beastkin, for animal-like peoples.
>>97458495You know what's funny? Outland wasn't even really the home for Demons in DnD. But in WaCraft Blizzard pumped heavy with the Outlands carbon copy. To the point in TBC you had the one broken pizza plate. You can also see how Shattrah was round like Sigil at the center of Outland and full of exiles and refugees.
>>97458396Tieflings were a 2e D&D creation. They were made to be a PC viable version of lower planes races (i.e. demons, devils and yugoloths). Due to the shear variety appearances and abilities of lower planes entities and the popularity of random charts at the time Tieflings got random Ability and Appearance tables to make them more unique. Diterlizzi followed the standard horned and tailed humanoid design for Tieflings in most of his Planescape art.

Should beastfolk be their own race, or the result of humans having sex with animals?
I simply like hot anthro people.

Thoughts on a unified beast race?Like instead of having Snakemen and Dogmen and Boarmen have the race of Wildkin or Beastborn or whatever and they all have different animal attributes but are the same people
>>97458396tiefling sexoooo
>>97460081Would need some serious lore reasoning for why they don't instantly want to murder each other.
>>97460107Why would they want to instantly want to murder each other? Humans don't instantly want to murder each other because some look different than others. If you argue that's because of social development, why could beastdudes not have the same developments?
>>97460178>Why would they want to instantly want to murder each other? Why do they have anything in common with each other? Don't say "because they're not humans" because that's a negative trait, and inherently unstable. Anyone using a "unified beast race" needs to come up with an extremely good in-setting reason to counter the idea that it's just a bunch of sockpuppet antagonists-of-the-week mooted by a profoundly unimaginative GM.It can be done, but usually shouldn't be.

>>97460361>>97460426>these people might be murderers
>>97460426Do you honestly believe that conflicts happen mostly because of appearance rather than behavior? In real life we have legends about saints who are of a race of people with the heads of dogs, but we also have thousands of years of history of groups that are almost exactly the same butchering each other.
>>97460799Better murder them first, only way to be sure.
>>97460426It's never about appearance. It's about behavior - and then appearance becomes a shorthand indicator for behavior associated with demographics that exhibit the common behavior.Signifier and signified, man. Basic stuff.
>>97460799Adulthood is realizing we can't act upon our every want.>>97461027Appearance is part of behavior. The clothes people chose to wear, the iconography they adorn them with.
>>97461112That's true, hence dress codes
