It's some 3D print, it comes with a heads for a lictor or neurolictor. I simply used the neurolictor head and put GW Patriarch arms on where the huge lictor claws are meant to go.
I wasn't very experienced with hobby stuff at the time so they are kind of randomly glued on there. Today I would cut, sand, and file the arms much better.

I'm a lurker and secondary 40k fan, was thinking of getting into hobby via 3d printing in the future. I have a question regarding painting. Can I use slightly watered down tempera to paint them or do I need some specific type off paint. Idk much about paint types what works best for the minis, assuming I'm not buying GW official colors

>>97479497
It's from a previous edition, but <your dudes> custom paint schemes being unfair because they can use whichever subfaction rules they want. Guy played unpainted marines too.
>>
>>97479497
People saying that we can't have a 40K video game that is either an adaptation or close to tabletop rules because GW wouldn't allow it since it will hurt sales.
It won't hurt sales since the reason people buy 40K in the first place is to collect assemble and paint minis. Playing the game is the smallest part of the hobby. And the playing itself is rewarding because you're doing it irl with the minis you've invested time and effort into painting.
Very very few (if any) people that play TT will switch to the digital turn based implementation and abandon the hobby. Such a game would only get more people into the hobby.
Bolt action is also getting a video game adaptation that will follow TT rules.
>>
>>97479497
I don’t like it when some people in the community try and portray Chaos as a neutral force. The whole appeal is indulging in an evil role.
>>
>>97479497
People saying 40k's setting is becoming less grimdark due to GW trying to appeal to normalfags so they sell more overpriced plastic, even though the setting is still awful but I agree that GW is attempting it on a surface level. They can't really scrub decades worth of grimdark from 40k without normalfags finding it once they get into the hobby.

I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that most people who say stuff like that, don't actually believe that it would hurt sales and, what they actually mean is
>we can't have a 40K video game that is either an adaptation or close to tabletop rules because GW wouldn't allow it because they (GW) think it will hurt sales.
Which is yes, stupid on GW's part for the reasons you said, but thinking that GW is that stupid that they would think that, is itself not that stupid.

If CA weren't retarded subhumans they would use the Total War 40K assets and make a deal with GW to do it. Since they are already making an extensive army painter for the game that has cosmetic customization for characters and troops and modifyable wargear they could just with GW's approval make a turn based combat offshot mode where the combat follows Tabletop Rules. Or even make it a standalone game.

Codexes and books can get away with stuff like that since most normalfags gravitate to the games or animations more, majority of normalfags usually just watch sloptuber lore videos or shorts. I'd like to see a SM game where you can play as a Black Templar and be allowed to do horrible shit without the story trying to justify it.

I finally finished this model today, it's an overdue Christmas present for a friend, he's trying to start a Tau collection.

It's a Tau Broadside suit, reposed a slightly fair bit, fully magnetized for gameplay options. The base is supposed to be jungle themed, I'm still learning what works and what doesn't when doing jungle stuff, I've never seen an example online I'm fully happy with. I think I'll one day get a small 3D resin printer, make a lot of tropical leaves and branches and stuff, it can be time-consuming to make it from scratch. The bush behind the model and the leaves sticking up from the ground are plastic aquarium plants, painted over.

I spent quite a lot of time with this model just figuring out where the colours should all go, what felt right. I think it turned out pretty neato in the end.

Hello I was browsing /awg/ and the split thread of /awg/.
By chance has anybody used a miniature agnostic/setting agnostic set of wargaming rules to have 40k games?

We all complain about bad gw rules but I never see different rulesets to keep the minis from collecting dust recommended.

I saw a free wargaming ruleset mentioned called “No Limits” but since it is free I think a lot of praise is heavily influenced/tainted by it being free. Sort of like how nostalgia taints perception of the past things.

it's a neat paintjob but nothing ties together, uniform edge highlight rather than shading, and a lot of details are compeltely ignored, so it looks a bit like a cheap factory painted toy.

An alternative system where 40k models can be easily inserted as proxies so that 40k minis can still be used for wargaming. Mini agnostic games are good for that.
I’ve asked for something from /awg/ and got “No Limits”, Xenos Rampant, and OPR.
>you want to play 40k without playing 40K
Essentially yes.
I don’t like GW but I like the 40k universe and want to minimize GW from the hobby as much as possible while still enjoying 40k.
I want to play 40k where things are radially different outside GW. And generally to get away from the waacfag culture that has invaded even casual play at my local lgs.
It’s pretty depressing seeing the L shaped terrain and then seeing the custom made terrain (some donated from genuine hobbyists) just sitting there unused.
If they ever get used.

classic tsundere, i still recommend trying out older additions, either 4th, or 7th using codexes up until necrons, and avoiding formations and adjusting invisibility to only be BS1 instead of snapshots, and homebrewing everything else, since that's what you'd be doing anyone with those other systems.

>well you've can narrow it down to two now I guess.
Fair enough. I’ll look at No Limits because that game is free to download. I think it is just a passion project too. But the “disadvantage” of that is that there might be something busted in the overpowered category and I may fall to waacfaggery.
But maybe Xenos rampant has it too because competitive isn’t really considered.
>classic tsundere
You can’t point out such cliches accidentally do, b-baka…
>still recommend trying out older additions
I’m fine with that. Especially the ones with forgeworld units usable in them.
If I want to bring any.

But the elephant in the room also is because there may come a day when I want to play with science fiction minis outside the 40k universe and will want rules to play with those.
That’s why I have a bit of a keen interest in setting and mini agnostic game systems.
>>
>>97480680
The BA refresh was a fucking disaster
>>
>>97480683
>play with science fiction minis outside the 40k universe
With older additions it'll just come done what can be proxied and what can't and would require homebrewed.
My recommendations with home brewing is also stay on the side of caution when tuning things, it's better to try out something against someone and realising it's too weak vs pulling up with a broken unit and your opponent get the distaste if homebrew.
>>
>>97480683
And I forgot to add.
The reason I am talking about alternative 40k rules here is because I feel like /awg/ would be too biased as much as they try to be neutral.
I think I already asked at /awg/ I just want the opinions of some people here that may have already tried such alternative game systems.

Most homebrewing I’ve ever done was look at already existing stats from other armies and just slightly modify them.

I'd always say to ask a friend IRL as they'd be less awful than people on here.
You look good at painting delicately so I'm just surprised you didn't paint the rubber joints or use more than one colour for the storm bolter or paint the exposed shells.
I know people like to break up the often monotone space marine models with transfers such as on shins.
It's sad that you used an afro haired marine when you wanted to paint him blond but that's GW's fault really, I haven't seen the terminator kit but I imagine there are few choices with sensible hair.

It might be the model more than your paintjob, since again you're obviously doing it 10x better than most people.

I find it infuriating to move and remove infantry in 40k. Even with movement trays and shit, I find it very annoying. I suppose the biggest problem is that when I go to my LGS for events, I am very paranoid about putting my models in my box when they get dinked so I don't lose them, step on them or have them stolen. Obviously bigger ones and smaller groups are not an issue, but they can be annoying sometimes.

Question for people that actually play the game: When you get out of a transport and then move, is it commonly accepted to just measure 3"+ Mv from the hull and set up your unit there if there's nothing in the way? A friend of mine told me that it was cheating but I don't see how if my units wouldn't have been restricted in any way on deployment.

Lawd have MERCY Custodes are strong. We did a game set in the Webway during the War in the Webway in Horus Heresy using the 10th ed rules. A squad of Sisters of Silence had to reach a portal and use their nature as Blanks to seal it while the Custodian Guard held back the tides of daemons swarming in from all sides.
Custodes kicked ass, and it was awesome lol even if I was playing the daemons. Daemons have some fun tricks and can be extremely powerful with good roles.
Sadly we had to proxy the SoS with Cadians and none of the Custodes were painted but it was a fun af game either way.
>>
>>97482290
I dont know if I'd call it cheating but your friend is correct its not the proper way. one thing that could be gamed by doing it your way is overwatch (your opponent might forget since you declare your unit is going to move 3" + whatever is their movement).

When rolling well, Plaguebearers can actually be ok due to their devastating wounds but I wouldn't trust them to kill Custodes very often. Fiends and Daemonettes actually seemed much better at that.

Every single Citadel sculpt taken out of production is going to make *someone* panic buy and post facto complain about missing out. God knows I procured a dozen mutilators and old obliterators in a fit of madness.
Except that ugly piece of shit. No one is going to miss that.

Oh, I forgot to say the Custodes won. The Wardens and Custodian guard formed a wedge and held either flank while the Sisters rushed forward to try and reach the portal.
The Allarus focused on killing the Daemon Princes guarding and did far too good a job at it. My Daemonettes killed a few SoS, my Fiends killed a Warden before dying, my BoN and Herald of Nesh Steed took 5 wounds off the Dreadnought, Plaguebearers killed a few CusGuard but I pretty decisively lost.
I still loved it though, was great fun.

it has never been a problem in any game I played with it since like 2008. the majority of the legs for a clear "size" and the big crab claws are articulated, so you can move them around. i refuse to use that sort of thing to play for advantage anyway
