>>97491702Didn't realize the new thread was up already, usually takes forever.>mechanicsSorta, they aren't terribly complicated since this is for 5e (well written for Swords & Wizardry then they converted it) so it's mostly fucking with supplies or saving to avoid something bad happening. I'm not sure whether the Rough Seas one is too extreme of a check or not.>Heatwave: The Sultan causes a heatwave to strike the ship, doubling the consumption of water and causing discomfort among the crew, which increases travel time by 1d4 days. Water may run out, forcing a stop at the nearest port or island.>Rough Seas: Rough seas erupt around the ship due to the Sultan exerting his powers over the temperature of the waters. Characters must make a successful DC 18 Dexterity or Strength saving throw or be tossed overboard along with 1d4 crew members. They must be saved within 1d4 rounds or be lost at sea and drown. If the ship suffers a loss of more than half of its crew, there is a 50% chance of mutiny. Regardless of mutiny, the ship adds 1d6 days to its travel time due to the difficulties of running the vessel with a reduced crew.>Storm: A rough storm erupts due to the Sultan meddling with the weather over the Sea of Baal. The captain must make a successful DC 15 Intelligence check with navigator’s tools or the ship runs aground and is damaged on one of the detailed islands in the chain. The storm also has the same effects as the rough seas event.>Doldrums: The winds die completely, requiring the use of twice the provisions and water by rowers. This lasts for 2d6 days.

>>97494950They're honorary elves.
>TQFor me it depends heavily on a character. For my current elf (Arrianne), outside of usual things that make a person likeable, I imagine she would appreciate anyone who understands her elven need to express herself and show emotions, as I consider all elves as very expressive beings. Anyone forcing her to bottle up, shame based on her bubbly behavior or punishment based on her expressiveness would be taken as an extremely mentally draining oppression if continually applied.>>97494805>it's for 5eI will steal this, regardless. Thank you
>>97496066>Thank youHey no problem! The part where it comes up is around Level 5ish or so, and was written with the idea there would be places for a ship to limp off for repairs. It keeps things pretty loose since the focus isn't on sailing autism. As for the barbarian, I mean. That's pretty common for that class. So long as he actually bites the baited hooks that progress the thing he wanted to do, all will be fine.
>>97494238i think elves look for beauty in all things, so even among the barbarians they would be able to appreciate things like the barbs' arts and culture in much the same way as british people walking around a museum full of african artifacts

Cute Redneck Elf eating breakfast
>>97503391Arrianne sure has a nice slim figure. Would she want more jewelry for fashion? Or perhaps more that any wealth she can easily carry like a bangle, armband, or rings would be easy to carry around. Very traditional that a warrior wants wealth he can carry around out of necessity, as well as style. I'm surprised she can find anything green to eat, but then again if a whole town is transported I suppose some must have personal gardens like ones hanging from windows. Or town herbalists and alchemists with their own greenhouses. Are all the local Avernus herbs poisonous or are some useful?

Elf slavers. Wat do?
>>97503690>sure has a nice slim figureYes, she is also fairly tall compared to the rest of her family (standing around 167cm/5'6" high). Her village nickname is Lanky or whatever is the equivalent in the local Elven/Halfling. The people deeper in the forest/swamps call her Stickbug.>Would she want more jewelry for fashion?Right now, she would really want to just go home.As for jewelry, I'd say she would appreciate it but is not really used to it since she is just a small town middle child. Last time she wore "jewelry" (colored rocks) her neck hurt. I think she would quickly try to turn any wealth into investment and subsequent profit. That would be her first instinct. She really enjoys making profit even though she is not the spending type.>I'm surprised she can find anything green to eat>Are all the local Avernus herbs poisonous or are some useful?Sadly, this is presented to us as something enigmatic, as DM ruled out that most of the stuff we eat in Avernus are "rations" even though I made Arrianne specifically for foraging out-of-town scenarios. Most of the plants in Hell are rotten or dry but there are various randoms who make small gardens, produce small crops. Avernus is dry and hot but there is no sun burning so if one could produce water it would actually be very easy to grow crops. Big bugs could be issue...Every morning, Arrianne sets out to forage for various plants to use either as spices or to smoke and she did find some psychedelic plants so those exist for sure.

Some time ago in one of these threads I asked for tips for aesthetic ques for biotech elves I was drawing. This is the roster od designs I ended up making.
So which of the archetype arcane casters do elves fall under most often? Innate magic ability like a Sorcerer, or learned in the way of magic like a Wizard?
>>97506812Innate magic that is also honed with intelligence
>>97506812That's more or less a D&D thing and the answer is learned wizards.Although, I'd say evil elves might often end up with innate power (from demonic sources).
>>97506775looks sick, good job
>>97506860Thanks. Ended up 3d modelling a bunch of stuff for it as some of the shapes I was pursuing were difficult to draw straight out of my head.
>>97505065>produce waterAnd unlike my City of Brass campaign, creating water magically isn't very brutally controlled. I'll have to think of how to handle that aspect, since the rations of the system are rolled into just a single "Supply".

>>97507027One thing I really hate about D&D is the magic being able to completely replace any form of sustenance, maintenance and upkeep.>I'll have to think of how to handle that aspectI would separate it into food, water and single use waste items (torchers, candles, inks, etc.)I would additionally separate food to perishable and "very quickly" perishable so players have the option to hunt/garner without being able to stockpile.>>97508901Whoever commissioned this artwork is a sick, demented piece of shit.>>97508924WIS
>>97509376If resisting the Holy Sword's influence was a Wisdom check wouldn't Arrianne be a strong contender to hold it and be able to maintain her mind? Unless its charisma or simply no check at all as a plot device.>>97505065>Yes, she is also fairly tall compared to the rest of her family. 5'6".Tallmen watch out lol> She really enjoys making profitIs there a surviving lord of the town that owns most of the land? Maybe Arrianne should bag herself the deeds or a rich husband. Although if theres other ruins of ancient cities down there I'd imagine some relics or scrolls could be very valuable to the right buyer. Unless they all just sink into the Styx, but one must imagine there should be lore and bits of other cities this has happened to throughout the campaign.
>>97509376What's wrong with a random picture of a king?
>>97509376So I actually like simplifying things to just a single thing, in this case the "Supply". There's a more 'tism option in the rulebook for A5E, where you need to keep track of not only putting things in appropriate containers but that you have the correct poundage of food and water. This is a bit too much for me, personally. But I'm getting ahead of myself. In A5E each character can carry up to their Strength score in Supply, and this is the hard limit and what really helps ensure the effort to forage/hunt or the class features taken for survival don't become useless. Sure, someone like Frost can be forced to carry Ferris' Supply but the big guy can't go above his STR score. The rules also encourage endangering the Supply, a lot of the failure results for various Exploration Challenges result in a loss of supply and even outside of that things like having to travel through water could put your stuff at risk.To touch on magic. You cannot store food/water inside of a Bag of Holding (or similar), as this saps the nutrients from food and the ability of liquid to quench thirst. Spells are more restricted, Create Food and Water requires food/water as the target of the spell and it merely duplicates it 1-to-3 and is only good for 24 hours. Create/Destroy Water, you either create gallons of nonpotable water or a single Supply of drinkable water and upcasting never increases that. On the subject of magic some spells like Rope Trick and Tiny Hut now have components that get consumed when cast.Sorry that got a bit wordy. I remember you saying one of the players in your game will be running 5e next? Might be worth having them look into A5E, or at least stealing some of this stuff to make it a little more crunchy.
>>97509417>wouldn't Arrianne be a strong contender?it's progressive will saves with every round until it becomes literally impossible to resist the sword. Arrianne has biggest Will save in the party but that is not much since her Scout and Ranger classes don't give that much will. And then again...it comes down to dice roll. The sword urges the user to fearlessly confront and destroy anything the user perceives as evil and that is the biggest problem with Arrianne wielding it. She wouldn't mind cleaving Ferris (and maybe even Frost) in half with it since she considers him worse than most enemies she encountered in literal hell. She would literally kill two very valuable (party balance-wise) party members before she would engage any enemy. Also as she has the ridiculous move speed, it would be impossible to take the sword out of her hand since her whole schtick is hit and run tactics while covering extreme distances. The safest bet would be to just nuke Arrianne as quickly as possible (she has very low HP for her lvl) and/or give her the sword in a very tight space where she couldn't just run/cleave through away.>Is there a surviving lord of the town that owns most of the land? Not in hell there isn't. But if the party manages to survive hell and save Elturel, Arrianne will definitely not be shy about asking for a HUGE compensation for the task. Every morning she wakes up, she is checking and writing a list of demands for the heroic deeds her party did which will, as is only logical, only go to Arrianne since Amy is a child, Frost is a retard, Ferris will be hanged and Kout is a bum who doesn't care about money. She will use this to kickstart a trading company. The party also owns a rundown pirate galleon docked in Baldur's Gate. She would definitely push to legalize that and start her own Elf India Company or somethin..>I'd imagine some relics or scrolls could be very valuableGems. There are tons of gems. Avernus is one big mine.
I have more respect for this human boy than most elves.

>>97509473That's the Lord's file format.
>>97509489I guess you can just share it with copypaste.
>>97509458>This is a bit too much for me, personally.Yeah, this definitely can be taxing on the DM but it will force players to scav for supplies. Maybe commissioning some junior autist/programmer to make a simple tracking app on phone could come in handy?>Rope Trick and Tiny Hut now have components that get consumed when cast.I will definitely be forcing my players to use material components next time I run a game and I'll make damn sure they are scarce or a capable scavanging character will be needed.>I remember you saying one of the players in your game will be running 5e next? Might be worth having them look into A5EWill definitely offer it to her but I don't think she has that much concentration to make it happen. Do you have any .pdf links, especially maybe even youtube videos with a summary of the differences between 5e and A5E so I can hook her on it?>>97509473· They are extremely easy to read, edit and copy statblocks· You can group various PCs, NPCs and Monsters in a single text file for a specific session, ecnounter or module· Even though we play irl, I always have a simple and readable stat block that I send to DM as soon as something big changes in order to help him balance the game in whatever thing he is prepping for us. If he suddenly starts send us messages like "Hey guys...errr...what are you will saves?" that would kinda spoil the next session, would it? This way, he is aware of what we can do and can play thing ahead to be the exact, perfect balance of fun and challenge
>>97509504>hook her on itI'll put together a GF link later today with the PDFs, I got a thing I wrote up with differences but I'll make that into a PDF too.>>97509470Holy shit you have negative CON. Rolling for hit points too right?
>>97509470>destroy anything the user perceives as evilPerhaps killing Ferris isn't the worst thing...Especially when she can blame it on the sword. The 70ft of movement is really damn funny tho. I'm curious what her odds are of just murdering Ferris and then running around before anyone else can knock her out. Plus if shes raging to take half damage.>Elf India Company or somethin..Lol idk Arrianne would make a pretty cute pirate. Hunting down other pirates and slavers, where Justice is what Captain Arrianne says it is. Imagine how fast she can zoom around a ship with all that movement speed. Its a nice use of a ship and given how fast she can run she could probably get to this Elturel fellow first.>Gems. There are tons of gems. Avernus is one big mine.Neat. Why was she wearing painted rocks at some point anyways, I presume before Avernus.I don't suppose any connections to the beings in literal Hell will be of any use once shes out of there? A means to summon the red caps or their mistress. Other favors that might have been accumulated. The funny elephant angel that needed its memory recharged bit by bit.
Heroes of Might and Magic got me wanting to put snow elves in my setting
>>97509542>you have negative CON. Rolling for hit points too right?Yup. Don't forget the Quick trait too. I wasn't joking when I said Arrianne is glass canon. Her HP is average for lvl 5 characters, not lvl 10s. I also wasn't very luck with some hp rolls...>I'm curious what her odds are of just murdering Ferris and then running around before anyone else can knock her out. Plus if shes raging to take half damage. This is exactly what I said previously. 70ft of move speed is outside of charging distance of everyone in the party and that is WITHOUT longstrider spell which gives her +10ft move speed for 90 minutes. Frost's move speed is 30. Amy's is 20. They couldn't catcher her on her normal movement speed. On top of that she has endurance feat which would mean she could probably run for hours and she is in light armour. That means run action for her is 280 feet. Ferris player has started calling her horsegirl ooc because she really is on par with a horse.>Why was she wearing painted rocks at some point anyways, I presume before Avernus.Because we didn't have money to make a proper nobles outfit (we needed 100 gold+150 gold worth in jewelry to larp as nobles) so a lot of forgery was done to fool the guards.>any connections to the beings in literal Hell will be of any use once shes out of there?I'm hoping she can strike some trade deal with Mahadi, the guy who runs the Wandering Emporium which is the only peace zone in Avernus. Hopefully without selling her soul but actual mutually beneficial trade deal. Since outside of convincing people to sell their souls, he is just another free trade enjoyer. Arrianne was thinking how this could be useful for trading exotics or maybe even smuggling stuff and dodging tarrifs.
>>97509639>Lol idk Arrianne would make a pretty cute pirate.I don't know about that...Arrianne would never do such a thing.Anyhow, meet Luno, the little elven pirate boy. He is very quite and looks kinda frail but just don't tell Luno that he looks like some cute redneck elf girl called Arrianna Luna Gladebottom because that would surely upset him. Cute Redneck Elves with a strong inland southern redneck accents would definitely not pull a nat1 on multiple disguise checks and would fit perfectly into any pirate ship's crew with absolutely ZERO skill in ship handling to show.
>>97509713They better have beards!
>>97509931why, that does look like a little pirate boy and not a redneck elf in disguise.

>>97511530500 to 800 seems like it's the sweetspot for a belieable society and culture, and allowing elfen characters to become extremely powerful over the course of their long life, without going into complete overboard. If you go beyond a 1000, you might as well make them immortal.I think 300 is the minimum.
>>97511530I kinda liked going back to 1e/2e D&D ages, where elves could live up to 1,000 years give or take and even half-elves might conceivably reach 300 years. For my setting this puts it where there has been several generations of pure-blooded elves since "first contact" with humanity.
>>97511676>I think 300 is the minimum.300 years is the max. Having someone alive today who could've fought in the American Revolution would dramatically change our perception of time. Having a whole race of people like that would change everything.
>>97511755If only there was something like the fantasy genre to explore such concepts...
>>97509233How so?
>>97511773Yeah but unless you go full Tolkien and have the elves seclude themselves they'd severely effect the world building. Imagine having veterans of the Napoleonic Wars walking around. Now imagine having a nation of people that remember the Napoleonic wars. I mean for fucks sake most of the elves in TES still remember the Tiber wars
>>97509931Cute, I'm sure Luno could be a great pirate captain and everyone would agree not to bring up any pretty redneck elves.

>>97517831Wood Elves are too disorganized. They do really well in a few sports, but they don't care about building institutions for a wide variety of sports. They get the least amount of medals.High Elves do well in the more classic categories, but there's a huge disparity between male and female categories in most cases.Dark Elves get the most medals in the summer olympics.Unless they get disqualified for doping.Their sport institutions for women are Mountain Dwarves are hosts this year so they have bullshit categories like Gravel Bobsled. which the wood elves don't care about and the high elves think is retarded and needlessly dangerous, but the dark elves have dedicated team hoping to get a bronze to prove their superiority over the high elves.High Elf men might get more medals than Dark Elf men, but not necessarily.
>>97509504>>97509542Sorry for the wait. So with this system they also have most of the core books just freely available online too via: https://a5e.tools/As for the PDFs for the books, but also the form I had made back when getting my players onboard with the game: GF /d/OmDU3dNo videos that succinctly go over the differences though, I tried looking months ago. People not even making any money off youtube just milking the number of videos. Or they like the sound of their own voice.I think even if she doesn't run this system outright, the monster books are gonna be very useful. Better designed than old 5e, and each entry comes with suggestions on how to run the creature and also "Legends and Lore" with relevant skills and what info is learned based what DC you succeed on. I prefer it when elves are taller than humans. They should all be 6"6' chads. Even the women.
>>97520217I don't prefer it; I like D&D's short slim elvesI also like that they have brown hair and green eyeshoweverfor my homebrew setting & houserules, I made elves be tall and blonde with blue eyes, as I think that rounds the races out better and is close to what most people expect of elvesI also made them into spear users instead of sword users

>>97520318>>97520217Yeah, that elf looks like she's about to commit a crime. Either she's manipulating him or he's about to get dommed.
>>97494003>TQI base their interests on their personality. My first elf was socially naive and lonely on account of being a nomad with adventurer parents much more powerful than he, but ultimately a good boy. It's too callous to say he'd settle for anyone, but it's more like he didn't think true love was in the picture for him. When a party member confessed to developing a crush on him for protecting her and his willingness to be diplomatic in the face of difficulty, he didn't know what to do and so tried to build up the relationship to see what was there, finding things to love. Starts with positives on personality: gentle and supportive, disciplined in studiousness and intelligent, an appreciation for music and peaceful conflict resolution via conversation, optimistic, enjoys small moments together like group study and mutual hair styling. Once an actual appreciation for the person was there, he could focus on physical attractiveness. Petite and curvy DEX Bard with long hair and clear complexion fits a good few elven beauty standards. I got to use elf eyes as an excuse for him to notice very minute details that humans would easily miss, like how she'd get the faintest crow's feet when she laughed. The second elf I played has the inverse problem. Amazon caretaker wants to be a reliable comfort for a man that's determined, kind, and likely shorter, but body horror powers and a tangible lack of rizz means the rare few that she'd like would must be so afraid of her that there'd be no space for emotional connection. She's lost any preference to hyper-macho no-armor lads through over-exposure in her tribe, yet to fit in put on a tough warrior facade. When she got invited to a slumber party, she plainly denied any romantic feelings for the rival barbarian NPC because in all honesty they hate each other's guts, but admitted she'd love a relationship where she can step behind a good guy and support his efforts supporting her instead of fighting for herself all of the time
>>97520233>brown hair and green eyes>spear usersAs a tall elf enjoyer, based. The ethereal nordic elves have their place as majestic artisans balancing out the likes of dwarven craftsmen, human industrialists, and the chaos of little races. Green/brown though is a classic nature palette. Spears span the range between a sword of civilization and a brutish club, easily fitting anywhere from wise hunters to shamanistic tribesmen to organized warriors.

I'm debating on whether to just push on with the current plan and send my group straight into the Sea of Baal or to take the opportunity to prep a small side adventure I found for the city their ship had stopped in. It amounts to ending up shrunk down into a magical dollhouse created long ago by an efreeti to torment people, with the aim of saving a little girl trapped inside. Main issue is it might just be too easy while giving out way too much treasure for a Level 5 adventure.

How would elves view this song?: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YHRvDo8rUoQ
>>97530675Mostly a sorrowful pity. The shortcomings of violence are so frightening that the human would prefer death over experiencing the eventual result. A youthful idealism that sees the traditions of those before as marching orders to destruction. The recognition of how the young burn brighter than the old and wondering if it would be better to burn out than remain a cinder. The ultimate statement of how they shouldn't allow that fear to scare them into inaction would probably be a nice twinkle of optimism before the final chorus recounts the main core. The final opinion would be defined on whether or not they're in the usual depiction as some sort of fallen or declining civilization. Depending on whether or not they're 'out on the other side' and their opinions and cultures for either case, it could ring horrifyingly true, incredibly naïve, a sticking point for the foolishness of humanity, etc. A utopian, post-Revelation-Christianity-esque hippie society where elves have no reason to fear each other would find the hopelessness and anxiety outright depressing, while a jaded post-destruction society would find it more of a blunt reminder of simpler times and a selfish view that the world isn't perfectly capable of moving on without them.
