>start campaign>has great characters who all fit in well to the setting>really in-depth story led by the player characters' actions>let new player join>he wants to play a freakshit race>reluctantly say yes, think it could be an interesting foil to the others>goes on for a bit>new player joins>also plays freakshit>also later starts saying his character is some isekai bullshit>never interacted with this genre and he mostly keeps quiet about it but it still makes me cringe>can't kick any of these players cause it'd fuck up the group>and the story at this point>still regret that I didn't enforce human-only like I did at the beginning
This simply didn't happen.
>>97541089I've ran into the same problem myself back when I too was new to the hobby
>>97541089kek why not?>uhhh actually no, you definitely didn't have a game with an engaging story, that's storyshitting and can only happen with a GM railroading the game, or else it's a completely open sandbox, there's no in-between>no one can ever care about how the races they include in their game can influence the flavor of the world, because everyone is playing 5e cosmopolitan freakslop>no one can ever express a regret about something they allowed, if you made a mistake, you made your bed and now must lie in it, you are not ever allowed to even complain and say you wish you hadn't>this is radical self-responsibility, promoted by the weird faux-christians that took over 4chan and apparently preach forgiveness and absolute lack of tolerance for regret simultaneously>TTRPGs could never actually be good or have a complex or engaging story, because the anon speaking hasn't personally experienced it>this is what (actual) nogames actually believe>while calling other people no gamesKill yourself retard.
>>97540987Does that really matter?
>>97540987I request elaboration on the finer details, good sir.
>>97541191What finer details would you like to know about?
>was planning a plane/dogfighting game>really excited about it>have a falling out with the club president (I was set to graduate in a couple of months, and he wanted me to vacate my locker 4 months early)>cancel it>never get to run a cool plane game.damnit.
>>97541340For starters, what game system you were using, the players and their characters, the campaign events that managed to get you all invested, what exactly the two new guys played and what was so bad about them beyond "isekai bullshit", if the campaign is still on-going or if you killed it, and so on.
>>97540987You could talk with them like a normal person instead of seething.
>>97541134>he believes the greentextDo you think creepypastas are real as well?
>>97541358>systemGURPS>players and charactersAgents of a powerful organization in a dieselpunk world that also has a few fantasy races (sue me)> what exactly the two new guys played They played fantasy races that weren't in the setting, but also weren't explicitly not in the setting. inb4 this means the setting isn't strong or some shit.>and what was so bad about them beyond "isekai bullshit"That's most of it. It is jarring against a campaign that genuinely has a good story, from the alchemy of multiple peoples' creative viewpoints, and adding them is like if you had your favorite buddy cop movie that suddenly had four modern day LGBT freakshit tieflings from the latest 5e live-play podcast added in.>if the campaign is still on-going or if you killed itIt's on-going yes.
>>97541435>fantasy races that weren't in the settingBe specific son, what. And also what GYRP books are you using.
>>97541453It's all homebrew shit I don't want to talk about but it's some homebrew furry race.
>>97541470So the player made you write a homebrew race that wasn't in your setting and add it in?The problem isn't that you didn't stick to human-only, it's that you're a fucking doormat.
>>97541470>>97541528>The player asked me and I said yes>This is the players fault
>>97541435>They played fantasy races that weren't in the settingName them if you can, cause there's about an 85% chance they exist on the internet and I need a laugh. And yeah, I get what the issue is, there is a certain tonal whiplash to having something so attention-grabbing in a relatively more grounded setting. Though I admit that if that's ALL they've done and they're otherwise behaving themselves, those players will probably either leave the game themselves or just adjust to fit the game properly. I've found gag characters and characters that were meant to be attention-seeking never stay that way for long once the other players just stop caring.
>>97541470So you made the entire thing but can't describe It or say what books you use?
>>97541770You should laugh at him for saying its a homebrew thing he made and at no point he just went "sorry, I'm already running the game so I can't make this thing for you, just go with a regular thing and next Time we may include something like this from the go, we'll see"
>>97541794Well yeah, that almost goes without saying. The sane thing would be to go "Sorry, maybe next time". Still, I've seen some scuffed shit before, so my curiosity is piqued on just how bad this race supposedly is.
>>97541822>>97541794The stats are irrelevant, its a flavor issue purely
>>97542268>its a flavor issueThen dont flavor it that way
>>97541470I definitely believe you actually play games, anon.
>>97542284Okay but the flavor is what's being questioned here. The system doesn't actually matter. What matters is the fictional essence of the things here. That's why I didn't say what system, because it doesn't matter.>>97542299I don't give a dead moose's last shit what you think I do faggot. I've run more campaigns than you've played sessions. Literally fucking kill yourself. The best part is when I tell people my history of playing TTRPGs and it's so unbelievable to them, because THEY are the nogames, that they laugh and call me nogames.Mods need to seriously filter "nogames" or start banning people who post shit like that. It's such an irrelevant fucking stupid meme and it adds nothing to the discussion. I genuinely hope you get slaughtered in a car crash tomorrow. I do not feel that ire toward any other type of poster here besides the braindead "nogames" spammers.
>>97540987So how does this isekai shit work? Do they end up playing a character with a completely useless set of skills? Like a forklift operator or computer programmer in the Megolithic? How do they even communicate with the natives and other players without kbowing the language? How do they survive for more than week? Why not just tell them their character has a magical hat they cannot remove that says "I AM SPECIAL!"
>>97542317>The system doesn't actually matterIt’s still a nice detail to know since a lot of systems are packaged with settings that help inform what is native/non-native to a given game to help judge how egregious isekai type shit is. An elf popping up in a game of Barovia for dnd isn’t nearly as big a deal as one showing up in say a game of Talislanta.Still waiting on that info about the homebrew furry race btw
>>97540987>storyDoomed from the start. Write a novel next time loser
>>97541134>why not Take a guess why I wouldn't believe a wojakshit greentext on a board infested with bots, tourist raiders, trolls and moderation that encourages all of the that.
>>97541089Yes, we know the idea of actually playing a game is inconceivable to you. Why are you here?
>>97542317Then tells Is the favor you fucking moron. No one believes you because you're vague as fuck instead of just posting the splat you Made with GURPs (allegedly)
>>97543265NTA, but you literally can't post PDFs anymore
>>97543446You don't need an entire PDF for one splat.,
>97540987
>>97542317>getting this mad about getting called out on the obvious lies you told to try and fit in on an anonymous image boardPathetic.
>>97543572>he doesn't double space his splats with maps, timelines , trivia boxes and a forewordngmi
>>97543897>>97543265I don't want to get too specific because my players might post here.
>>97544612Suffer in silence like a spineless retard for the rest of the campaign instead of addressing the problem then.
>>97544612I you don't post It them I have no reason to think It exists.

>>97541089I 100% believe this happened. I've had at least one and probably more than one campaign ruined by a player coming into the campaign with the idea of what the story he wanted told to him, not that the DM was telling that story, you know? I was in a friend's D&D 3.5e in college and it was an interesting campaign until a friend-of-a-friend joined as a foxkin sword saint or some shit and the entire plot got derailed trying to find out why they were the "Chosen One" of something that had never been in the campaign before his inclusion. I tapped the fuck out and never looked back.
>>97544751>14 playerswat>college as opposed to irldouble wat
>>97544806I played my first IRL game before college, that shouldn't be that hard to understand. The online game had 14 players. It was ass and I regret every minute of it. The game became some kind of autistic phenomenon and everybody in the community started asking me to be a part of it, and me, being naive and retarded, didn't know how to say no to any of them. There was also a revolving door issue where some players simply wouldn't show up reliably, so I was stocking the pantry to have at least 4 people per game, but this bit me in the ass when I often had 8-10.
>>97544777That's you dealing with a DoorMat. If we entertain the absurd notion OP isn't a lying fag, he can end his misery in a simple and easy way of talking to his player(s).
>>97544612If they already lurk on 4chan, they'd be able to tell you're shittalking them with or without getting more specific. You're already in for a penny, might as well be in for a pound.
>>97544777I believe you more than OP because you can at least say what they were playing
>>97544612Why are you scared of your players? You let them play things you don't want them to, you're scared of them seeing you complain about them online, if this isn't a larp you're a timid little bitch.
>>97540987>human-onlyBased. No female characters either, I hope.
DnD Y2K era: I wish I hadn't had so much edgy gore and blasphemous shit in the game. Also wish I hadn't brought my bad boy older friend into the campaign. I had a crush on our token girl and he immediately scooped her up. L5R early 00's era: I had way too much respect for the retarded official storyline and wish I'd just done my own thing 100 years before the main timeline instead of having the PCs following along with the metaplot. I also used visits to court as a way to punish the players who overspecced on combat instead of devising cool schemes and mysteries. NWoD/CoD mid 00's era: I wish I hadn't flaked out of my friend's campaign. It did some serious damage to my social life at the time. I wish I'd run some of the niche WoD games I was interested in like Changeling and Innocents since my friends still had attention spans and free time during this era. 2010's dry spell era: I should have been more assertive and gotten a work schedule more condusive to gaming. I had some pretty cool friends in my new city but didn't get to game with them because of scheduling. Covid lockdown era: I let way too many people join and focused on the people who liked the lore and paid attention which I think caused even more laziness and resentment. Just such a bad mix.
>>97541089The nogames /pol/tards really got annoyed at this guy.>>97540987>freakshit>enforce human only Tell me you don't play games without telling me you don't play games
>>97546017Cause it's frankly an absolutely useless and rather toothless post to make. Either the story happened and the comment adds nothing to the story, or he's going to deny it anyways and the comment still adds nothing. Either way, we have no way of verifying, so it's a waste of time to debate it. Like, is he hoping that the OP will have a dramatic breakdown where he admits he made it all up for 4chan fame? Is it just to be seen, to show that that he's somehow smarter than everyone else because he's the one guy not pretending that he believes OP entirely?
