Is backgammon /tg/?
It's on topic, but what the hell is there to discuss about it?
>>97546198If it involved horny goblin girls you'd have a general thread.
>>97546198Forget goblin girls, what the hell is Black thinking, setting up their pieces like that?!?!Only time I've ever a boardstate like that is if a player is desperately waiting to roll specific numbers and is being forced to make moves they don't like. And white hardly has any on their end, but you know they're trapping a single black piece on their side. This game is fucked!
>>97546984Aren't there tables games from other cultures that don't involve western backgammon rules/strategy?
>>97546186fuckin RNG
>>97546186yes. it's a boardgame. Next question.
>>97548250I like that you're not at the mercy of memorizing a thousand moves in advance. Friend of mine is a chess grandmaster and nobody will play him since it's impossible to win.
The thing I like is the fact that the gameplay is so straightforward that anyone could learn to play, but the randomness of the dice prevents any "winning strategy" from actually being trustworthy. Some folks might call that a design flaw, but they have to remember that the dice give you a choice of what to do, the rest is up to you.
>>97554685>the dice prevents any "winning strategy" from actually being trustworthyI wouldn't say that. The dice do make your options random but someone who knows basic backgammon strategy will beat someone who doesn't. The randomness comes into effect when two equally skilled players are against each other.I'm surprised it's not a more popular game though. The skill floor is really low to have fun. If you're just fucking around with friends it's basically an advanced version of Sorry.
>>97546186Given its similarity (as far as we can tell) to the Game of Ur and Senet, it's not just /tg/, it's the successor of ur-/tg/
No it is >>>/asp/ but that board got nuked so it doesnt belong anywhere
Chess is so why the fuck wouldn't it be
