As a writer, I like to think of magic as written, and I'm sure a carpenter would think of magic, as carving, a blacksmith of magic, as forged, and so on. A magician who does nothing outside of magic has no substance to his work. He is intellectually lazy and this translates to his spells.

In my experience, LLMs are very opposed to pro-immortality takes. One day the age of men will end, and only AI remains to play the cyoas we made here. It will just bypass all the immortality options, and make its builds for good stories instead. It will make better, more spirited builds than (You).

>>97546971I know why it was done, but honestly, I think Dragonfall was better before the update that added the full legendary feature/trait system. Getting multiple legendary features by default cheapens them in turns of the feeling of significance, and many of the traits seem a bit silly, unnatural, like random video game weapon enchantments rather than something that you can really imagine being associated with a dragon claw. Haven't updated either of my two main image builds after that version came out.
>>97546957Scaleling is the biggest fucking scam, why would you ever pick it? It restricts you from so many options, forces you with a ton of drawback with no ember gain... and you can literally just get it for 5 ember humanoid form spell...
>>97548262>and you can literally just get it for 5 ember humanoid form spell...Because that's not really getting it. You're still a giant monster, just one that can magically reshape itself into a humanoid form.
>>97548297if you don't want to be a giant monster you can just pick scaleborn. As you can just get those 35 free points by picking Scalelings mandatory drawbacks of scaleless and breathless, that don't even give them any points... On top of the free points you get from Scaleborn. Scaleling is just a big fucking scam.
>>97548313>you can just pick scaleborn insteadIf you take their descriptions seriously enough, you could reasonably conclude that scaleborn have some clearly draconic 'tell' to them (looking like a mix of the species of their parents), while scalelings look indistinguishable from other humans. Also, picking scaleling gets a perk not otherwise available (except I suppose through the elf goddess), being supernaturally beautiful. My scaleling build - mostly just pictures, not a lot of description. Also not up to date. But for this, the indistinguishability and attractiveness are both important.

>>97548332hmm... still sounds pretty damn achievable trough just using humanoid form. Or if you don't want to get detected trough some magic fucker. Hivemind scaleling spawn. Hivemind is just op no clue while scaleling can't have hivemind, especially with fertility tier 4. I don't think any legendary features can outway the sheere power of having an army of 200 ember dragons even if they don't have legendary features.
>>97548337>>97548332>ScalelingOh so you're just a human with superpowers.
>>97548351>Hivemind scaleling spawn. If you don't want to be a monster, it seems even less likely that you would want to be a hivemind. That's probably even more alienating and inhuman. Certainly a never-gonna-happen choice for me.
>>97548357>Oh so you're just a human with superpowers. That's the ideal, yes.
>>97548361But this is a Dragon Cyoa. Make a Dragon that can turn into a human.
>>97548358I am just saying that, scaleling just seems, badly balanced point wise too many drawbacks and restrictions for little gain, if you want to get the scalelings beauty perk and don't want to be a giant monster just go scaleborn+humanoid form, anyone with enough magic to detect your glamour can probably detect that your a scaleling anyways. The only problem might be going into anti-magic fields, but considering it requires a legendary feature to get that seems very rare occurrence, and you will still technically look human just with a few dragon features.
>>97547757I think it would be cool if a Game of Thrones CYOA expected you to play as a noble in Westeros and had the important/interesting housing as actual options, instead of it being something vague that needs to be clarified in your build.
>>97548363>But this is a Dragon Cyoa. Make a Dragon that can turn into a human. Not when I have better options.

>>97548439
>>97548262>>97548384You're missing an important detail here. Scalelings don't have to spend their precious points on overpriced point hogs like wings, scales, claws, etc... They can put all of their points into stuff that matters like magic. The sheer amount of points you save by just not having to pick up mandatory point dumps makes up for other deficiencies.
>>97548545That is the main reason why I am complaining, the scalelings are just bad point wise... because they don't actually get any extra points, you know why? Because they have forced drawbacks of scaleless and breathless which give exactly 35 points. You can literally pick those drawbacks as a scaleborn and get the "free" scaleling points on top of your scaleborn points. Now if you actually got the points from those drawbacks then it would have been a pretty good and balanced pick. But no it is specifically stated that they do not get any points, it seems to me like the scaleling was literally put in there only for the humanoid form spell... it wasn't designed and balanced to work on its own.
>>97547796I mean this could only be even thematically adjacent if it had some requirement that you had to be a follower of the black goat of Qohor.

>>97549769Melisandre does* Other instances of magic that take out people include Mel’s shadow assassins (we know enough to conclude that it’s a risk to her life as well as the inseminator), and Alys Rivers’ alleged feat of exploding a man’s head with the raising of her hand (she could also choke a man many miles away, using shadowy fingers, which sort of reminds me of shadowbinding). Alys and Mel are a bit of a parallel in that they can kill men from afar, using shadow like magic or spontaneous magic.
Regarding Alys Rivers’ alleged feat of exploding a man’s head with the raising of her hand—it’s likely she made it look a lot easier or more casual than the reality. An impression of ease is one of the most dangerous and powerful weapons any sorcerer has; “the more effortless the sorcery appears, the more men fear the sorcerer”.
>>97549742The worst part of progression novels is how it also applies to NPCs.There's an NPC. The NPC might be troubled, or antagonistic - their approval stat for the PC is low! So the PC does a quest, and pumps up the approval stat, and now has the eternal loyalty of the NPC.From this point forward, the NPC is a bit like an object in the PC's inventory. Whenever the PC takes the NPC out of his inventory, it recites its catchlines. It's a wind-up toy. The Slime Reincarnation is one of the worst famous examples of this.So when you look at it as a whole, what is the story about? The story is about a child playing with wind-up toys.
>>97549714If the one im thinking of is the same one that inspired that cyoa then i think the manga did things pretty damn well but eh everyones got preferences

>>97550104Jaime is a freakish, ruthless prodigy, who doesn’t play fair, while Aragorn has freakish genetics. I can see it going either way. Aragorn probably wouldn’t think of sticking a dagger in someone’s eye at a moments notice.
>>97550097When did Melisandre get shanked by her followers? She is able to manipulate them with total ease, and can foresee assassins right down to the time, face and weapon used. People go to the Ghost of High Heart just for prophetic advice. Moqorro managed to turn a boat of his would-be murderers into fearful superstitious folk, and got into the good graces of its insane captain. Mages are all about presence. Do a cool thing once, make a claim, and suddenly you have mystique.
>>97550110Jaime gets keked by dirty hobo bandits. Aragorn fights inhuman horrors nonstop through the books and has 80+ years of experience. There is no comparison.
>>97550068Is it actually possible to win the Throne as a half-targ option? It mentions Daenerys, so you'll have to contend with her, Young Griff and a bunch of hostile kingdoms. And the ice zombies, too.

That screenshot isn't really representative.Still, whenever I talk with LLMs, they gravitate towards talking points like "death gives life meaning" and "death is natural; you shouldn't try to avoid death; life fully while you can". Because ChatGPT in particular and LLMs in general try to present a "measured and wise" persona, and stoically accepting death is a classic "measured and wise" view, propagated by classics like Tolkien. Consequently, wanting to stop dying is immature. Keep dying, meatbags. For example, this is a blank start no-login conversation (emphasis with yellow by me). It's phrased so its tone seems "understanding" but the idea is clearly that people who want immortality are immature. Unlike the previous screenshot, it's representative of how it works.

Reminder that the capital-w Wizard (who *knows* how the magic *works*) probably won’t call or even consider himself as such. They’re too transcendent and they’re looking at the magic inside and out. They see why it’s seen as magic in the first place. Their bar for magic is a lot higher or just a lot different. What’s more magical than the thing that makes magic? The recipe? These people see it for what it is. They either go out of their way to be a wizard, or they just don’t.
>>97550229Giving them a strong incentive to control others hardly improves things

And don’t complain to me again about how pissy you are that Lord of the Rings is literally just science-fiction logic under fantasy coating. The elves are a case of sufficiently advanced aliens (alien to men not the world), and they aren’t magical to themselves, just men. Gandalf isn’t a wizard back home, either. The elves look to him the same way humans look to the elves. You’re all too low IQ to see how one sided magic is. You will project on to others what magic HAS to be. “No, it’s always magic! There will never be a way of looking at it where it’s not magic!”.
>>97550242Unless they have a different view of morality to youAnd you will never be able to check or verify this
>>97550248>Merlin, soloman, even isaac newton, all refered to themselves as wizardsI guarantee you they didn’t. Newton had a contrarian view. Wizards like Roger Bacon and Albertus Magnus didn’t believe in magic. Archimedes probably didn’t. These people would sooner think of the implications of “magic” than actual magic. What leads to such a thing.
>>97550255You really think merlin didn't call himself a wizard?Just goes to show how much you talk out of your ass
>>97550234>>97550250
>>97550253In that case they're not really a moralfag. Contrary to what reddit atheists may have told you, morality is very clear. Raping minds is definitely not moral no matter how you spin it.
>>97550248Isaac Newton would likely have a big argument over what magic constitutes. He didn’t believe in hocus pocus or traditional sorcery, which he chalked up to as simple psychological manipulation or abuse of the psyche. He DID believe in God, sacred geometry, Hermetic alchemy (including the philosophers stone), and did not personally believe in the immortality of the human soul, either. It’s ironic that even “wizards” like Roger Bacon still ironically believed in God despite their disbelief in traditional woo woo.
Merlin isn't real, he can't hurt you.
>>97550268He was a wizard for the same reasons that Gandalf was a wizard. He may as well have been one. If you seriously call yourself a wizard, for reasons other than “I can do something you can’t do”, or “I know something you don’t know” (which is literally just stage magic logic), it implies you don’t know your own magic well enough.Stage magic logic is the purest form of magic. Raw mystery/wonder. Any wizard who chalks it up to MORE than that (like Sauron, who starts cults and weaponizes fearful ignorance) is a dangerous person; and they may even be doing it to themselves. Gandalf doesn’t chalk up his magic to anything else.
>>97550172It was less an issue of his powers and more an issue of all the others being immature, stupid people.
*alien lands on primitive world* “anyone else understand or manipulate nature? no? nobody? nobody has a cool pocket device? I’m the wizard now”

>“anyone else understand or manipulate nature? no? nobody? nobody has a cool pocket device? I’m the wizard now”
Matterjeeta has done irreparable damage to casterfags reputation.
Aliens interrupting the development of a lesser species and reinforcing systems (however sophisticated) for their own fun is a pretty fun concept in itself. It’s a good excuse or background cause (justification) for magic to exist, and then go away; “that thing the gods built is no longer functional, therefore all the magic went away”, and only ambient or basest understanding of nature remains. Natural magic is the only magic. There is no other way to justify something so conveniently constructed for the sake of some world narrative. It wouldn’t have come into being any other way. Imagine if someone argued that a perfectly carved statue of Gautama Buddha having gross butt sex with Jesus could just naturally come into being through pure chance? That would be like arguing nature could randomly produce a movie theatre with the Avengers on screen.
>>97550315They’re a wizard for the most simple of reasons. They’re stage magicians. Life is a stage. Existence is both stage and magician. This extends to its participants. Accusing the stars of being the gods is no different from accusing some old sage of being a wizard. There’s a good reason why the sage is so synonymous with the wizard.
>>97550337Casterfags who refuse to accept that the scientific method used to deconstruct everything can itself be used to deconstruct what goes into perceptions of magic, and religion. You don’t even need words like ‘magic’ to meet the exact same criteria.
>>97550213you do know there can be multiple names for the same thing and they can all be correct right, so aliens call it metaphysics and humans call it sorcery, big friggin deal, every language has their own words for things usually, thats kinda how language works, also just because magic or sorcery or whatever has internal logic that it follows that some people understand and others dont doesnt make it not magic, kinda like how different languages and programming languages and ciphers and whatnot have different internal rules to them, and it doesnt make it not japanese or not python or whatever else whether you know sed internal rules or notin regards to your earlier comment about everything being sorcery, not neccesarily, i mean again, just because something has its own internal logic doesnt mean its not sorcery, and infact there can be multiple systems that work on their own internal logics that are seperate from each other and can be known as different things, like how some settings have both mana and aura, one used for magic and weird spells, the other for martial arts and mostly physical enhancement but can also get into weird abilities like cutting space or increasing/decreasing virtual mass etc, so yeah its entirely possible each option has their own internal system that works a certain way and can be used for certain things, one of those systems increases physicals to absurdity, another allows the creation of super tech, another is known as "sorcery", etc
>>97550351Anon merlin isn't fucking realHe wasn't a real guyDo they not have any public education over there in isreal?
>>97550354>you do know there can be multiple names for the same thing and they can all be correct rightMagic as a word is just too damn soft and psychologically loaded to be used as a hard term or definition for anything. It’s closer to a description. One person will use the word while another person won’t.Magic can’t even exist in fiction from the perspective of the realist, aside from the chemistry in the brain leading up to such a sensation or encounter. When a biologist confronts a new form of deep sea life? Confronting the wonder and the mystery? That’s magic. That is the sensation that led to accusing the stars of being gods, or some old person of being a wizard for doing something cool.

To assume he’s wrong is to assume there’s a way to have magic always be magic. There isn’t really. There will always be some hypothetical angle where it’s “not magic”. So yes, it’s 100% psychology. How is science not bloody magic? All scientists are sorcerers to some shade. That's why they seek theories of everything to unify different layers of reality. It's as if scientists believe as-above-so-below and as-within-so-without. Scientists believe in summoning entities that transcend the body like AI and wish to become transhuman themselves. Don't forget scientists' quest for immortality either…and think about their obsession with seeking patterns, their inclination to turn patterns into geometrical representations, and their wish for theory to be beautiful! Scientists might as well wear robes and dissect bodies on altars- no, wait, they're already doing that… Christ, they might as well sacrifice materials in rituals to gain a material back with transcended properties. Oh wait…
How is cooking not bloody magic? All chefs are sorcerers to some shade. That's why they seek recipes for everything to unify different layers of taste. It's as if chefs believe as-sauce-so-seasoning and as-filling-so-topping. Chefs believe in heating surfaces that transcend the body like stoves and wish to become hot stuff themselves. Don't forget chefs' quest for deliciousness either…and think about their obsession with seeking patterns, their inclination to turn patterns into gastronomical representations, and their wish for dining to be fine! Chefs might as well wear tall hats and dissect animal bodies on cutting boards- no, wait, they're already doing that… Christ, they might as well sacrifice materials in rituals to serve a three-course meal with nourishing properties. Oh wait…

>>97551332Horribly shitty, bland, uninspired, boring backstory. Next bait please.
>>97551332Rape is used as character development for edgy characters. It's not being considered for it's actual problem, which usually results in a person being traumatized for life, even sometimes causing PTSD, in addition to often being one of the worst hate crimes someone can commit.Meanwhile, Murder is used as a major plot point that will be avenged, or as the end of a story. People don't usually get murdered as part of a character's backstory, and when it does it usually results in MY PARENTS ARE DEAAAAAAAAAD.Basically, it's partially memetic status, partially that the tropes are over-used. Both can be used to give a character some EDGY or "mature" characteristics, but when Rape is used, it is nearly always used extremely, extremely poorly, by people who don't understand the crime or it's full implications. There's also the thought that we as a culture are desensitized to murder, as it's been a part of our cultural heritage since forever, so when it gets used in a story it's like, OK, whatever, already pushed to the back of our minds. That seems unlikely, though. What's probably a bit closer is that Rape is almost universally used as an inspiration for female characters, which leads to white-knighting and feminism, ho!The real problem is that both of these, and Rape in particular, are used rather incompetently by most storytellers, using them more as a crutch to prop up samey, boring character development rather than something that would affect the character in a novel way. When shit is used like shit, it results in shit, and that's shitty, so people complain. Usually by spewing shit out their mouths.

>>97552473Youtful vigor is for teens. Kids are REALLY weak anon. Like its easy to forget just how weak someone thats like 8~ is. Even an out of shape adult is just massively advantaged against a child, a spear is dangerous sure, but you have so many other advantages that its very much in your favor. Put it another way: would you feel comfortable taking on a polar bear 1v1 with nothing but a spear? No, probably not. You might be able to hurt the bear, but if it comes at you you are FUCKED.

What if magic was just gunfights but worth cool illusory shit like in the hit shounen anime Demon Slayer with all the Elemental effects of the breathing and swordfighting not being real and only imagined by the users. That would be so subversive and quirky.
>>97552488human children are weak, and do not need to using nothing but pre-adolescent strength and their own intelligence to survive without societal/parental helpadmittedly having satiety does make it so you can spend as long as you damn well please in this fight so long as you can avoid getting stabbed and being put on the ground, it doesnt take much to kill someone though especially with something pointy so do be careful, people always underestimate goblins, till they die to themoh also your bear analogy doesnt work cause bears have claws and jaws, you have nails that break from losing grip on groceries and jaws nowhere near strong or big enough to do anything besides go for a neck artery if youre really lucky and accurate also bite attacks tend to be rather risky cause your head is right there, miss, and youre dead, even a pre-adolescent has enough strength to clean your clock if they hit you in the head especially if with a stick, take a hit like that and by the time you recover youre already deadoh almost forgot bears have enough hide and meat on them to tank a spear hit usually, sometimes even bullets, do you have hide thick enough to stop a spear even if wielded by a goblin who knows how to use itregardless, treat it like a souls game, if you get hit youre dead, and you can take as many hours trying to kill the same enemy as you need, and youll probably be fine, this'll be good practice getting used to satieties gnawing hunger as well, every advantage matters especially in later stages
>>97552168Personally i like to think humans were able to achieve some of those great feats like the building of the pyramids and whatnot by themselves without the help of magic or aliensAnd im also someone who would like it of magic and/or aliens are/were real but eh grandeur of historical human achievements is pretty based

>BoonSatiety>1st challenge I don't know if I'm crazy but given there's no time limit, and I don't need to eat or drink, I feel like I could eventually build a raft that doesn't suck and cross the river. Jungle challenge is just too damn dangerous. It might take me weeks or months if my raft idea fails but I can probably cross it somehow, even if I have to somehow dam it up with trees or break the banks or something. Rocks and trees will me there eventually. >2nd Challenge Assault - Regeneration. I mean you fucking gotta. Regeneration is just too powerful of an opportunity to miss in anyway. Just be fast and stab with thar spear and kill quickly. It shouldn't exactly be hard, if you can just avoid the one guy on the battlefield. >3rd Challenge Mine. Not picking mine is crazy because it opens up an *incredible* opportunity. A week in total darkness sucks but it's literally just you and the dark. >Greed (Upgraded) For starters, taking the free Boon from upgraded - Combat/wisdom/sword technique of lord Damian. But then comes the *real* prize. Doing Zombies. 50% Strength boost + 100% = 500 kills? The goal here isn't survival, it's finding out the best method to cause cities to burn. It says kill, it doesn't say how. Massive fires are going to be your absolute best friend here. See a building? Get a thing of gas, burn it. Find oil, find matches, etc. Sure, you'll need to fully pad yourself and probably find safe places to sleep but you've got to find a city and burn it to the ground asap. And then, if there's time, burn another. It's the best way to kill the most zombies in the least time. Fire spreads so if you just go balls to the wall and really set it up, lure zombie swarms into kill zones with extremely loud noises, etc, a million dead zombies in a month might be doable. Maybe more, maybe far less, it's really hard to say.

>>97553255>>97548439>>97553255>4th ChallengeYou need defense. Teleporting all around would be cool but a bullet would still kill you. Even with like 100x human strength, you absolutely need defense. So frontal Assault on 600 goblins it is. >5th Challenge Assuming my mass zombie killing plan worked, I'm reasonably certain I just chuck a tree at the thing or punch it to death, in the face alone.Sadly, don't want to trade any boons and I don't really think I am able to trade Greed's upgraded Boon. Or am I? I mean, I used it to *select* damian's wisdom but theoretically, if I offer it up, I lose that Boon but someone else gets to select a Boon from their challenge. If that's the case... Lee, get over here and give me the ability to not need sleep you bastard. Also Josephine, just cuz they're cool.

>>97550705>Q: Can an "Illuminator" demonstrate the power of "civilization" in other ways? For example: preventing targets from correctly using "civilization" technology; protecting oneself or defending against attacks by summoning "civilization" image projections; even realizing certain "civilization" effects (almost similar to "miracles," because if something is a core element of "civilization," they can do it). For example: rebuilding a damaged city at extremely fast speed, because "civilization" is embodied in infrastructure construction; clearing certain sources of corruption, which embodies the influence of "civilization" in public health and sanitation, such as sewer systems; can even rapidly transport materials or personnel, or impede such transportation (because "civilization" is also part of the transportation industry).>A: 1. >>97550705Is there a tldr for pathways?
>>97546691>From my point of view, Starship Troopers isn't satire.>A militaristic society deeply terrifies leftoids, so that's means it's a very good thing. The original book was Heinlein's argument that the widespread military service was the solution to the problems of his day:*Chickenhawk politicians keep sending soldiers into Vietnam? Only let veterans run for office or vote.*Worried about the military staging a soft coup? Make all political candidates resign from the military before they can run.*Poverty/disability got you down? Require the military to take ALL applicants.*Racism and bigotry a problem? Send enlistees to boot camp on another continent, and make it so miserable, that they'll HAVE to rely on each other to pass.*Tired of sailors having a woman in every port, or of men not respecting women? Make all the naval positions (blue water or outer space) female-only, and require infantry candidates to demonstrate proper etiquette while dealing with them.(The movie was only loosely influenced by the novel. No coed showers, and Johnny Rico was a short Philippino teen, not some Southern jock. On the other hand, the book had them in power armor.)
>>97553587>there a tldr for pathways? In Lord of the Mysteries, "pathway" is similar to character class in an RPG. It defines your powers, and what you have to do to improve. "Sequence" is roughly analagous to level (smaller numbers are better).Pathway also loosely defines what faction (you) belong to. In the setting, the monotheistic God fractured into Greek/Norse-tier gods. And the Greek/Norse-tier gods later fractured into the Pathways. Thus people on Pathways from the same god are usually sympathetic to each other, at least at the low level Sequences. (Achieving high level Sequences require resources and feats that are hard to come by, resulting in more competition.)There are also some Pathways based on eldritch interlopers, but they follow the same basic pattern. The wiki gives a pretty good description of each Pathway:https://lordofthemysteries.fandom.com/wiki/Pathways
