I’ve just learned that I’ve spent $4000 on wargaming since 2024
same except more like 1200
>>97550597It's alright, I've bought every D&D 5e book on release and haven't played a D&D game in more than 3 years.
>>97550597On wargaming, or on Warhammer™ ?
>>97550690Wargaming, including warhammer, all the terrain, paint, brushes. Everything.
>>97550714Warhammer is not a war game
>>97550597You must have some pretty impressive armies for all that money, post em.
>>97550719Ok?
assuming you spent nothing so far in 2026, you spent $5.50/day on Wargaming in 2024 & 2025. Including 2026, that drops to $5.18/day. But! You have not calculated the time investment, nor the enjoyment it brings you.
>>97550881>warhammmer>enjoyment
>>97550719it's THE war game
>>97550719What is it then?
>>97550929>>97550935It's a T-sport. Warhammer makes zero attempt to simulate war or battles on the tabletop, and even less effort in terrain layouts to simulate immersive battlefields; both of which are key elements in wargaming. Warhammer has long since abandoned it's wargaming roots in favor of TCGesque competitive focus. It does not simulate war as a game, it simulates E sports tournaments on the tabletop. I'm genuinely not making fun of you, I know the vast majority of modern 40k players have never played a real wargame and only know 40k, so I don't expect you to no this. But sincerely you should know that the hobby of wargaming is VERY different from the hobby that is Warhammer, which is really its own unique hobby separate from true wargaming.
>>97551077One thing that really illustrates the difference between Warhammer and wargamers is the willingness to cheese the rules. A Warhammer player doesn't care what is realistic or plausible, he only care what the rules will or will not allow him to get away with. If you try to cheese a certain rule in a historical wargame club you will get laughed out of the room and asked if you really think that is a plausible action given the context of the period you're fighting. The difference here is that the Warhammer player doesn't want to simulate a war on the tabletop, he just wants to win the "game."
>>97550679>Buying any 5e books after the disaster that was the PHB and DMG.I am so sorry for your mental disability.
>>975518595E started a little after when I got my first job, and since I had bought all the books I rationalized that it would be a waste to not own the who collection. Also, my only problem with the original PHB was the art, it's formatted pretty well, especially compared to GURPS books (which I also have a few of).
>>97551113What the hell is out that window that has that guy's attention? Or is he blasting ass to make the battlefield smell more like Gettysburg?
>>97552349He's mooning the enemy side to show off his warrior spirit
>>97550714It's embarrassing because you could have had tue same stuff for 1000 bucks by avoiding that slo>>97550881Corporate calculationWargamers want things painted and on the table
>>97551113>Little Wives TVNot an improvementStill the same slobs but with money Replace lore with arguing about weather effects on blackpowder weaponsI just want my dinky setupNo GWNo stressNO PEOPLEFree to explore my projects in weird scales and settings in my own time instead of buying the same stuff over, and over, and over again
>>97551077>>97551113I don't think it's fair to compare dining table warhammer to an office sized historicals club, but yes that seems the biggest difference between clubs and pick-up games.
>>97552408So you are autistic
>>97550597Here's the important question. Are you having fun?
>>97552529Well yes, definitely But I’m sure coke addicts are also having fun, doesn’t mean it’s not a massive waste of money
>>97552539Coke will fuck up your life. Playing with plastic miniatures with your friends or strangers and having a good time would get you called a dork or nerd at worst.
>>97552539Plastic toys are much less destructive to your health... as long as you have proper ventilation.
>>97550597I only spent €100 on RPG stuff in 20 years.
I keep track as well. Since summer of 2019, when I started keeping records, I have spent £16000 in wargames, videogames, comics and books. About £2.4k per year, quite monstrous.I have however slowed down heavily this last year, I believe because I have reached a point where I consider many collections "complete" and realize it will take me at least a decade to paint everything. I have also sold some stuff recently, and came out ahead even accounting for inflation, since rarely do I buy anything that is not at least 30% off, as I have such a pile of shame that I am in no hurry to buy more.
>>97550597my legit first reaction was a smile and then laughter, thank you
>>97550679>>97550597>>97550614You deserve it, paypig
>>97553799>and realize it will take me at least a decade to paint everythingif you're playing geedubs they will have obsoleted those models before you finish painting them :(
>>97551113truth nuke too devastating, blew wh40keks beyond recovery
>>97550597what does the reddit frog have to do with it?
>>97557619Oh I buy models I like, I care not about artificial obsolescence. At least a third are from less popular companies like GCT Studios, Crooked Dice, Bronze Age, Satyr, Zealot, CMON's Dark Age, etc. I have often hunted for models from long dead games. And for those that are GW's, it is entirely likely that they will be made obsolete, then brought back again by the time I am done. I panic bought a crap ton of Tomb Kings when they were being squatted back in... 2014? And now they are back and mine still in their boxes. At least I bought them at 25% off. Also gotta say, my painting rate hasn't been helped by the fact that I have moved continents 3 times in the last 6 years.
>>97558047then you're winning, son.
>>97550597So what? It's something you like that you're passionate about. As long as you can afford to do so, and it doesn't create any significant impairment on your life, I don't see a problem. I spend about $3,000/year for My hair makeup.
>>97550597Post results. You didn't just buy a lot of shit and left it untouched and unpainted... did you?
>>97558071>>97550597You are the only one who can say what the things you spend money are worth to you. As long as you get dopamine out of it (and don't hurt yourself or other around you), you can waste your green notes without any judgement from me.
>>97550597
>>97550597But at least you had tons of fun building and playing with all of your models. You did build and play with all of those models, right?
>>97560400>building and playing>not paintingAnon...
>>97550597I work at a dispensary, we have a bunch of customers who spent more than that on just buying weed
>>97550597Whoah, four grands in two years, that's like half a pack of cigarettes a day!
>>97559822Exactly.
>>97560983Woah, you bought yourself a costume as well?
>>97561088I don't wear costumes and that's not a photo of Me lol but it's pretty close/similar to My style. I'm very androgynous to the point I often get mistaken for a woman
