There was a supposed leak about 6e that will be released in 2027 and it is currently in alpha or beta testing.
It was rushed because 5.5e didn't sell as much as Hasbro wanted.
I tried to find some good source about it but I found only gibberish, do you know anything about it?
>>
Not only do I not know anything about it, I also don't give a single shit about it.
>>
>>97571621
I didn’t care about 5e, or 5.5e. I don’t care what sort of Baizuo bullshit those Baizuo bastards make.
>>
>>97571621
What do they even call the current thing? I've heard it called D&D (2024), but did they really go full vidya reboot and just call it D&D™?
>>
I am going to be honest, these days I don't care for 5e 2024.

I got all I need with the 2014 rules.
>>
>>97571621
They already released 6e last year
>>
>>97571900
It's called D&D 5e 2024. You couldve googled this.
>>
>>97571621
>source for bullshit

Sure sure
>>
>>97571621
There's only one source. It all come from therpgpundint. He dose'nt claim to be the original source though and says it's coming from someone he trusts. Take thay for what you will, but right now I would consider it a rumor.
Supposedly they also want to bring in Tracy Hickman, Luke Gygax, and Ed Greenwood in some capacity. But it's unclear if they are doing it for name recognition and member berries, or if they will actually play a pivotal role in the development of the lore.
Either way WoTC is fucked because the audience they banked on to buy their product, the one they pivoted to and doubled down on, isn't buying it. And critical role now has their own game to sell them.
Me personally I don't care. I don't have any real nostalgic attachment to the brand. I played 4e and it almost turned me off of roleplaying completely. 5e was better but it's been going downhill year after year. There's really no reason to play DnD at this point when there's a mountain of better games to play.
>>
>>97571966
what do you play?
>>
>>97572075
The rule set is probably the least interesting part of my personal play style. Most of the tools I use to build the world and NPCs are card based and system agnostic. For me combat is the least interesting and worst part of the game, the game crawls to a hault and it can take hours. This is coming from the direct experience of somone who played DnD mostly when 4e was the main edition. I haven't played nearly as much 5e, but I hear it can still take ages.
Right now I'm using Micro Chapbook RPG. My goal was to find a game that moves fast and provides a roleplaying experience to resolve combat in as little rules as possible. It's also extremely easy to house rule and I can build whatever character I want and have it function in the system.
It's not going to work for everyone nor is it the best game out there, but it's ultra simple. And honestly I don't even use hald the rules because I have my own way of generating dungeons. I also mostly play solo at this point and thay is a ruleset built for it. It dose'nt get in my way or slow me down.
But the point is not to have one game that's the best or one size fits all, but to find one that caters to the things you are looking for as a player. That might be modern DnD, but it's probably not since it is trying to cater to everyone.
>>
>>97571621
source: it was revealed to OP in a wet fantasy
anyway I hope WotC dies soon so D&D can finally rest in peace
>>
>>97571966
Hold on now, I thought it was impossible to get the current Critical Role fan playerbase to play anything other than D&D, so how can CR make their own system?

I understand and agree with having a dim view of anything WotC does, but lets try to keep our antipathies straight. Jews are either weak inept inbred degenerates OR conspiracy-orchestrating superintelligences with earthquake machines.
>>
>>97571966
>>97571621
It was people doing stupid extrapolations. The things they though were clues (mainly people going to the WotC offices and sayign something was comming) were just related to the new Greyhawk set.

>>97572249
Oh, man, that post just got sadder and sadder as it went.
Usually combat won't last as long as it did in 4e because 4e was meant to be mostly combat. The people complaining about 5e just don't do anything to speed things up when palying with novice players, it's not a system issue if they take ages to pick a spell, that's a player and GM issue. I don't like 5e, but you can totally make a long combat resolve in under an hour by keeping the players engaged irl and getting them used to the actually ver limited options they have. I'd rather play something more in line with OSR, more about interacting with the world than fights being the main danger, but that's my personal taste.

I hope it fails. I want to normies/suits to go back to thinking of games as niche hobby shit they shouldn't care about.

But Hasbro/WotC fanboys are huge paypiggies who probably won't get pissed about short turnarounds between editions like other gamers would. Just look at the popularity of the gimmick LOTR and Final Fantasy MtG sets.
>>
>>97572368
They’ve stacked the deck for more of the same, why would anyone expect otherwise?
>>
>>97572329
I'm not sure what's sad about it. DnD simply didn't provide me with the experience I wanted or expected, so I went looking for a system or really a collection of tools that did. That game I play Is specifically catered to me and what I want to accomplish and experience.
Also rulesets can be swaped out at any time. I ran OSR b/x rules for a while. The Micro Chapbook is new. I liked that it had a card based version so I could randomize loot and monsters. And the ruleset seemed even simpler that b/x and is solo focused.
And I'm more inline with the OSRs style of play too. I run hex maps and procedural dungeon crawls. I run a sandbox open world. The whole idea behind it is to have content that's on a card, that can he shuffled around to create new worlds on the fly.
>>
>>97572329
>The people complaining about 5e just don't do anything to speed things up when palying with novice players

Honest question; is the thing holding novice players back a lack of mechanical literacy or a lack of narrative literacy? Sometimes when I watch a current-crop new player, I get the impression that they're just not from the same subcultural background as me to the point where I don't understand what they find appealing about the heroic fantasy genre.
>>
>>97571621
It came to you in a dream. Instead of just telling you to fuck off, I'm going to feed into your delusion by planting more schizo concepts about how they'll ruin the game more in 6th edition. Maybe they'll show up in your next dream and you can come here to tell us all about it.
>STR, DEX, and CON reduced down to one "body" stat
>INT and WIS reduced down to "mind"
>CHA is still around but only tieflings get to use it
>race list is now human, elf, orc, tiefling, and a new race called the "Gonzeggler", which replaces all short races i.e. dwarf/halfling/gnome in the lore and looks like a lemur with green and pink fur
>physical cards describing your spells are now mandatory by the rules, WotC makes you sign a contract when buying the rulebooks where you agree to this
>spell lists simplified to one single pool of spells that all spellcaster classes draw from and in order to cast a spell you have to draw its card from a shared deck
>all the Fighter's abilities are now considered spells
>the d20 is replaced with a proprietary 20-sided die where the 7 and 10 faces are replaced with an additional "20" face
>the term "Dungeon Master" is phased out for master-slave connotations, now replaced with the term "Dungeon Facilitator"

Most of those people have written adventure stuff, so they’re probably looking to pump out more modules / campaigns instead of reworking the rules

I played since d&d3.0, then I dropped and played other games, then I played a bit of 5e (mostly due I liked themed campaigns) but I disliked the game mechanics.
With 5e they had some cool ideas but they were limited by the dnd legacy an IP, they should just move on. Take the cool core and good vibes of dnd and create a new game.
There is a reason why OSR exists and it is because dnd is losing what it works.

"Modern" mechanics as of today are either crunchy autismo the likes of 3xx with all the supplements/4e overly designed mmo crap, or cinematic dumbed down bullshit that uses some cards to pretend it's still a game and not amateur theater. The way the OSR did is the right way: You either develop around the box of simplified rules of OD&D/Basic or push the boundaries of AD&D with the likes of ACK and stuff, or something in between.

its basically DoA. 5e is fine and there are enough competitors now that a new edition doesn't really offer anything new.

There is no reason for the consumer to choose the new thing, hasbro kinda revealed their hand when they called it "under monetized" a few years back. If you're trying to onboard yourself to 6e- why would you choose it over a dozen other different systems?

The meme stems from it being 50 years after adnd was released, which is already weird because wotc jut celebrated 50 years of dnd w/ the new release. They’re doing more grey hawk content with their league play, so why would it be weird to have the grey hawk family guy show up (luke gygax) and they’re currently in working on rebuilding old content with the 5e framework (adnd stuff) so why would they scrap all that crap instead of pumping out their 2024 remixes of old adventures (especially considering they’ve hired on a bunch of adventure writers)
>>

>Supposedly they also want to bring in Tracy Hickman, Luke Gygax, and Ed Greenwood in some capacity.
The whole claim was bullshit, but god you dipshits cannot help yourself.

WotC largely doesn't give a shit what Hickman and Greenwood have to say. They want their settings, but in the case of the Hickmans, not enough to keep paying them for it.

As for Luke Gygax, I'm gonna ask you something: who gives a shit about Luke Gygax? You can't even call him a nepobaby because that would imply that he has some level of success, notoriety or fame. His greatest accomplishment is having a niche-famous dad. And I'm going to be honest - most people don't know or care who Gary Gygax is.
>>
>>97576218
I asked you first, faggot, go on, give me a name of a modern game that you think modernizes the traditional fantasy dungeon crawling experience well and outside the OSR, after all, we are talking about DND here, so don't expect me to talk about anything else.
>>
>>97576329
Only we grognads really care about Gygax, but we are also not retarded to buy WotC shit just because they add a name to it. So, what are they expecting here? Maybe they just want to market it to the Stranger Things/CR crowd by going "LOOKZ GUYZ IT"S THE REAL DND FROM GYGAX YOU KNOW,REMEMBER VECNA? I REMEMBER. WHAT DO YOU MEAN EVIL ORCS NEED TO BE IN GREYHAWK? NO FORGET THAT."
>>
>>97576332
ok, you never played any.
>>
>>97576236
it's not about loving or hating DnD, DnD is just a system. It's a pack of rules that everyone follows.

So Hasbro has to really form an argument first why players NEED to switch from the system that they have spent the last 12 years playing. With the release of dnd next/ 5e the argument was clear: 4th edition had big problems and a lot of players were not satisfied with it. 5th edition was cleaner and simpler and simple generally means more turns and more fun for players.

The business goal for 6e will be to transform players into recurrent spenders. That is what they wanted for the failure that was 5.5. I just do not see a viable pathway for dnd to accomplish this.

I think its more likely that we see a new supplemental product. like some sort of new RPG system under the dnd banner where you can DM the game yourself by opening sealed booster packs and each card denotes a different dungeon challenge- with loot cards included at the end.
>>
>>97576350

The 6 classic D&D attributes are not a problem. It could have 3, 5, 8, whatever, it wouldn't matter. The issue is what you do with those attributes; how you build the rest of the game to interact with them.
>>
>>97577982
kek
>>
>>97572775
Strength and Constitution need to be merged
Intelligence and Wisdom need to be merged
>>
>>97578543
Sure, I agree, what I meant was that they will never leave those 6 stats due nostalgia, as they will keep the 3-18 with modifiers... that mechanic can go to hell, just keep the modifiers and who cares about having a 18 or a 20 on the sheet.
>>
>>97578543
Eeeeeeh, if you want to keep a game accessible then there are only so many rules you can put in hang those attributes off. We already know that 5e struggles to do enough with 6 attributes to make all of them worth taking as secondary attributes (e.g. intelligence being a dump stat), and also making them interesting enough that taking them feels like something other than a tax to be functional (e.g. con giving HP+saves and nothing else of note). If they want to keep the game approachable, then simply culling the number of attributes would improve things without sacrificing that goal.

That said, the big 6 are such a D&D sacred cow that I doubt we'll ever be rid of them. They can't even bring themselves to merge ability scores vs ability modifiers, which is about as clear a case of redundant mechanics as it is possible to have.
>>
>>97571966
>Supposedly they also want to bring in Tracy Hickman, Luke Gygax, and Ed Greenwood in some capacity. But it's unclear if they are doing it for name recognition and member berries, or if they will actually play a pivotal role in the development of the lore.
If this is the rumor, it's not true. Wishcasting the next edition.

The playerbase is not mechanically dissatisfied with 5e; 5.5e was mostly tweaks and weird changes-for-the-sake-of-changes that nobody particularly cares about.

If they did want to take a turn away from 5.5e from a design perspective, they'd look at the most successful other Fantasy TTRPGs That Aren't D&D (Draw Steel, Pathfinder, Daggerheart), none of which go in this direction.
>>
>>97576379
Every single one of these games are old enough they could have voted for Barack Obama. Outside of World of Darkness (which would have been 17 in 2008), they could have voted for him in his first term, at that. You are old and play old games.
