So Paladins are basically just freakshit right
>super speshul donut steel OC’s that are literally chosen by the gods because they’re so unique and special
>often a Aasimar just to highlight how extra unique and freakish they are
>typically shown wearing impractical overly ornate armor instead of simple armor that actually makes sense
>imposes their worldview and politics into the party and game regardless of what everyone else is doing and moralfags about lame shit
>not even a real knight and just some Marvel superhero wannabe

Are you a tiefling player perchance?
>>
(You) will never be a woman
>>
I know this is supposed to be a reflection of other threads like this which offend OP's ego but this is just sad.
>>
>>97572120
What game?
>>
>>97572497
Humans are mostly fighters, not Paladins
>>
>>97572120
You sound like a necromancer player
>>
Pretty sure Paladins get their powers from the oath itself, not the gods they worship. :^)
>>
paladins after 3rd edition are red flags for bad players.
>>
Only trolls say "freakshit".

>super speshul donut steel OC’s that are literally chosen by the gods because they’re so unique and special
Paladins aren't chosen by the gods. They dedicate their life to the gods.
>often a Aasimar just to highlight how extra unique and freakish they are
No.
>typically shown wearing impractical overly ornate armor instead of simple armor that actually makes sense
No.See picrel.
>imposes their worldview and politics into the party and game regardless of what everyone else is doing and moralfags about lame shit
It's in the paladins job description to be the moral compass of the party.
>not even a real knight and just some Marvel superhero wannabe
This isn't even a bait at this point. You just threw the fishing rod into the river.

>Paladins aren't chosen by the gods. They dedicate their life to the gods.
Anyone can dedicate their life to the gods, you have to be chosen by them if you actually want the holy powers that comes with being a Paladin

>Anyone can dedicate their life to the gods
Objectively, demonstrably and observably false. The vast majority of people are completely and utterly unable to dedicate their day to a singular purpose let alone their life. They lack the focus, will and conscientiousness required to do so.
> you have to be chosen by them
No you don't. You just need to have Str 12 Con 9 Wis 12 and the tricky one Cha 17.
>>
>>97572120
They're redundant but not "freakshit." The first point would make Clerics or any number of iconic fantasy characters freakshit. The second point is ridiculous, no one plays Aasimar. The third point is ridiculous, ornate armor is a genre staple and you love it when it's in your FROMslop. The fourth point is just called good roleplaying. The fifth point is a retreat to buzzwords.

not to mention marvel superheroes are all over the powerscale
obviously thor, silver surfer, and hulk are equal to CR20+ monsters
but then you have joke characters like D-man who are basically really good joe schmoes, barely level 5 by DnD standards
>>
>>97572120
>chosen by the gods
They are not
The way paladins obtain their powers is actually more special than that.
>>

5e is noncanon
>>
>>97581942
Okay but Paladins in 3/3.5 are the same way. They must be Lawful Good and adhere to a strict code, but they don't have to have a specific god or even any god at all. And from what little I've played of 4e, the same is true.

So unless it comes from 2e or earlier, the idea that Paladins need to be servants of gods is just straight-up headcanon/fanfiction. It's not what the class is about and the Cleric class already exists for people who want to be servants of gods.

"All paladins of Faerûn are devoted to a patron deity, chosen at the start of their career as paladins. Like paladins of other lands, the paladins of Faerûn must be both lawful and good. The paladin’s deity must be lawful good, lawful neutral, or neutral good. For example, both Helm the Vigilant One (lawful neutral) and Chauntea the Earthmother (neutral good) have lawful good paladin worshipers. Sune, the goddess of beauty, love, and passion, is an exception to the alignment rule, for her followers include paladins even though her alignment is chaotic good"

Now, you might reasonably point out that this is only true of Paladins in the entire Forgetten Realms universe / crystal sphere / whatever. Greyhawk, the default 3.5 universe, will even let clerics worship goodness or something instead of a god.

Even Eberron reserves paladinhood as a church knight thing- though of course that setting is kind of fast and loose with the gods.

So your point is that some Paladins worship gods and some don't?
>>
>>97587642
My point is that paladins worshipping a god is mandatory in some official settings. It is not "headcanon/fanfiction" at all, it's been a part of D&D for decades.
>>
>>97581883
>The first point would make Clerics or any number of iconic fantasy characters freakshit.
You're so fucking close to having a realization right now, but you're probably not going to take that logic far enough.
>>
>>97572120
Yes.

But they're on the list of 'trad and based and masculine energy/tradwaifu supremacy' so hobbylets, tourists and shit players who want to pretend they're good players say they're acceptable and jump through hoops to make it so, while calling a half-elf fighter who fights for moral reasons and not coin freakshit.

You're not actually talking about Paladins.
It's like saying Warlocks are freakshit, but then bringing up Tieflings as your point of contention.
>>
>>97572120
Paladins should be Fighter/Cleric multiclass.
>>
>>97572120
I hope whatever trauma causes this childish response in you burns out and dies. I want it to hurt, I want you to look at the ruins of your emotional state and weep for the poor choices you have made because you haven't the maturity to grow as a person. I want you to look at the reasons you thought you had for posting this and know how poorly it has performed and just how low you have sunk.

And I want you to get better and maybe one day joint the human race as an emotionally mature adult. Good luck on your journey.
