Maybe it was right place right time, with the OGL mess and 2024 DnD being what it was.5e was alot better of a ruleset than 4e was, but the game was more cringe and normie coded. In the circle of people that I play with, d20 games are not entirely thrown out, but they're relatively unpopular compared to the mainstream. There's a lot of trying out less common systems, and picking systems that are more custom tailored to specific genres of games.
