This game's great but I feel like a pig when I'm eating 16 oz of pasta (dry) and meatsauce when one of the events that can take place is literally "famine".

How does it compare to normal Twilight Struggle? Faster paced?

You WHAT?

I've been playing the computer version, but the first thing to note is that "instant win" is extremely deadly and can hit you on the second action of the game if you aren't paying attention.
It's Twilight Struggle but scaled down. Actions are much more eventful and can cause wild swings which you don't get with full TS. There's no slow burn of trying to get things to pay off down the line. You have to be constantly performing or you'll suddenly get slammed with an instant win or loss. I enjoy it a lot more than full TS actually. Locking someone out geographically feels more natural, and you tend to play your cards for events more than just influence.

I saw there's supposed to be a Twilight Struggle South Asia coming out at some point, but I didn't hear too much about it.

I mean it's dry when I weigh it, and then I cook it.
