>>97587708I wouldn't play real Bello either for all the same reasons. Whether or not it's a real card is irrelevant to my opinion.
Thirty (30) starting life is objectively superior to fourty (40)
>>97587668Yes, absolutely. I love Bello's gimmick. I'd probably give the animates flying instead of indestructible to differentiate him from Gruul Bello. I'd also change the on hit to anything else since you already have a thousand Coastal Piracies in his shifted colors. Maybe have him reanimate an artifact or enchantment at the end of combat if anything connected instead. You'd need to bump the CMC for that though.

Did a bunch of bulk trading yesterday and I got this one as a bonus. Anyone tried building him?
>>97587841city of ass fits right at home in UW though
>>97587856>Anyone tried building him?many people
>>97587856The best trick I know with him is using skullclamp with mobilize. You can attach it to all the tokens and get 2 cards per. Other than that it's the usual "use cheap equipment with high equipment cost" build. He's basically a colossal hammer machine. He's in good colors to prevent kill spells which is good because the gameplay is incredibly fragile. Wish he phased out instead of exiled.
>>97587856>>97587885damn that's funny
>>97587885Huh. Never thought about mobilize. I didnt even think about putting skullclamp in, just the usual stuff like hammer and swords
>>97587913He works with ninjitsu and the new sneak cards from TMNT as well. There's no per turn limit on his attach ability, so if you have the equipment anything coming in during combat gets the attachement effect, not just him.

>>97588224>>97588146Hasbro will try to use anything they have the license/rights for. Everything they make toys of is on the table. They don't care about actual market appeal because the cost of making cardboard cards is dirt cheap, if set A and B and C flop all they need is set D to do well and they've recouped any losses. They know they have a captured base of paypigs who have made consooming Magic their personality and main hobby that they can rely on to keep the game going at a minimally profitable level, and the lack of real competitors (due to the player base's sunk cost fallacy and potential games refusing to just make a "Magic But Better" system) means they're more or less the only game in town so they don't actually have to be competitive to maintain their paypig base.A Barbie set? A distinct possibility. Paw Patrol? Not off the table. Bratz? We may just see it. Wreck-It-Ralph? Plausible. And if they release a glut of these sets and they all flop and the playerbase swears they're done with the game it won't matter because they're anchor them with Elden Ring or Harry Potter or Batman and a memberberry UW set like Return to Dominaria and they'll make a billy and have all the nerds salivating for more.If you genuinely can't stomach seeing Furby and the Power Rangers and Powerpuff Girls in Magic now is the time to quit because there is no bottom.
Somewhere in the future you find your old Magic collection in the basement after not playing for years. You get excited and show them to your kids. You start to tell them about the game and the epic battles you had and the game's history and how much money people used to spend. You ramble on an on. Then you look up and see them make this face. >>97588471You can run in bebop and rocksteady though
>>97588595Let's be honest, Avatar is a millennial IP, TMNT is a gen X IP.
>>97588547those places make you bring your own set?
I've been playing MTG since 2018 and for every single set that has ever come out since then i've read spoilers daily, reading over every single card and making a list of the interesting ones i might use in some deck. This is the first set ever where i just can't be bothered to go over spoilers. My friends are asking me if there are good cards and for the first time i just don't know. Everything just looks so gross, stupid and uninspired. All of the cards meld together because there's 20 versions of each turtle. I just don't care. And it takes so much to make me not care.
>>97588673Turtles are squarely millenial, turtlemania was an early 90s thing anon. Gen X would be stuff like GI Joe, G1 Transformers, MASK, Original He-Man.
>>97588699>2018You are like baby
>>97588595Avatar is at least a genuine attempt at a story. It has characters, arcs, themes. Sure, it's aimed at children, but it's something. TMNT is just vapid slop. There's no other way to put it. It's peak 80s/90s garbage that only existed to sell toys, and that some sad people cling to while claiming that its somehow deeper. It feels like the furby secret lair, except it's an entire standard legal set. The source material is just too shit. This might legitimately be the worst UB product so far . At least the Office cards were just reskin secret lairs. This is a full standard set of what essentially is garbage.
>>97588673TMNT was airing at the same time avatar was.
>>97588713The new game is pretty fun
>>97588713Just say "because I like it due to fantasy"Because we know everything else is a desperate attempt to justify your own absurd hypocrisy.
>>97588699This was me with avatar
>>97588740TMNT is an embarassing boomer-adjascent toy selling franchise like transformers and if you unironically consider yourself a fan of it as an adult you should commit suicide
>>97588673is this like how star trek is literally a boomer or silent gen ip? Since it is 60's
>>97588673Turtlemania peaked when millennials were 3-8 years old
>>97588706The TMNT cartoon premiered in 1987 bro, that is before the cutoff for millennials even being born. The reception of this would be better if it were an actual millennial IP no doubt.
>>97587651
>>97588732TMNT was at peak cultural relevancy in like 1987-1992. Avatar started airing in 2005. There is a huge generational difference
>>97588775>that is before the cutoff for millennials even being born.

>>97588794>That sinking feeling that the soul is dead and only productâ„¢ lies aheadThere was only ever product. The game has always been a product. It was never about the art or the story, it was about selling cardboard to speculators and players. >>97588946Your deck is pretty standard anon, Edgar is solved af. If you don't mind spending 1k USD for a deck, gl hf. You are just too low on removal, I mean, what do you do if some enchantment or artifact gives you trouble?
>>97588946Vampires aren't a playable tribe
>>97588967Mhm i just don't know what to cut in favor of more interaction, i feel like everything here besides maybe New Blood has an important function.Kinda hoping the deck will just have enough gas to function with less non-creature removal.
>>97588751Same, but I came around on it hard when I saw what the cards actually looked like.
>>97589008Exact opposite. Meme images and cartoon art don't fit on magic.
Why is Wizards so invested in desperately justifying shitty UB products to their investors? They put an unbelievable amount of value into the turtle precon landbases, way more than any precons before, clearly to prevent another Spidergoy-tier flop. But why? Why do they care whether it's UB or UW that they're tasked with making more of?
>>97588946I'd cut no mercywhat are you dark ritualing into?since you're going with the drain theme, I'd swap authority of the consuls to blind obedienceI kind of don't like pit fighter, but you're in desperate need of more draw>warren soultrader and sephirothyou should be slappedadd austere command and blasphemous act at the very least. corrupted conviction and village rites since you really should have a ton of tokens.
>>97589019That's what I thought Avatar would be like but they were surprisingly respectful. They threw most of the work to their Asian artists who did a really good job elevating their material. TMNT can't be elevated. It's toddler tier baby garbage with no depth. It might as well be Cocomelon to me.
>>97589030>Why is Wizards so invested in desperately justifying shitty UB products to their investors?Because in-universe sets from their perspective are wasting space that could be used to gamble. That’s it.I’ve said before but once you accept that all corporations are run by gambling addicts, the world will instantly make more sense to you. Why is every company inserting shitty AI features that don’t work into their products despite the biggest AI company in the world making losses in the capital B billions? Because they all think they’re going to be the company that wins on the roulette wheel and make a fortune.In-universe sets involve a lot of planning, you have to pay people to come up with ideas, a setting, characters etc, and then at the end of it all it might not resonate with players and even if it did it will likely only do modestly well. But with 3rd party IPs? The setting and characters are already done, the marketing is already done, the consumer interest is already there, all WotC has to do is the mechanically design they would be doing anyway, then pull that slot machine lever and see if you make 200 million in a single day like Final Fantashit. It’s as simple as that.
>>97589030They did it to prevent total rejection of the product. They did the same with with the Doctor Who precon manabases.
>>97589030It is cute you think the precon was designed in the past 5 months or something lmao
What are other video game themed cards we have outside of this precon? And I don't mean obvious vidya characters but cards with video-gamey names (Game Over, Continue?, Super Combo, Double Jump)
>>97589067It really doesn’t take much to see that Spider-Man flopped months ago, rip out some tapped lands from a precon and pay an artist for new art on high value reprints to insert instead. You could turn that around in weeks.
>>97589035>I'd cut no mercyI was considering that, but from my previous times playing Edgar i noticed that the deck just draws an outsized amount of hate regardless of how well it's actually doing, so i think No Mercy and Authority are probably gonna be very useful defensive tools to not leave the match too quickly, maybe?>what are you dark ritualing into?I mean it's generically good for putting out a bunch of creatures early, but casting an early Grave Pact/No Mercy/Beseech/Necropotence etc can really warp the game.>warren soultrader and sephirothWhy not? They're not vampires but they add in very valuable functions, Soul Trader in particular is a nice wincon since it's just a second phyrexian altar and can go infinite with oathsworn vampire + a blood artist effect.>add austere command and blasphemous actDo i really need more board wipes? I basically have 4 already.
>>97589067Entire South Park episodes used to be written, animated and produced in 1 week per episode.I think it's possible for wizards to commission some art in 5 months.

>>97589160The UB with a bare minimum level of artistic merit vs. the UB with negative artistic merit. There's potential to come around on Avatar. People are likely going to hate TMNT more the longer it exists.

>>97589128Then avoid enchantress of any type.
>UB is killing magic!>Actually shit like this is killing magic.
>>97589169>People are likely going to hate TMNT more the longer it exists.Wrong, for several slamdunk reasons:>When the next UB set shows up, all of the shills will move onto hating the next set even though it's Hobbit, because hating new content drives engagement>Drafting TMNT is likely to be a fun experience because the cards are about as well-designed as ATLA's set, so you're relying on pure visuals to carry hatred forward >The cards are much healthier for standard because they don't contain Lessons and the izzet spells archetype is pretty muted in TMNT>Most of the cards are actually just fine visually. >>97589217Again, most of the cards that look bad aren't playable outside of draft. People are desperate to convince themselves that Spicy Oatmeal Pizza is gonna be the next commander staple and that shit isn't even gonna see play in most limited decks
>>97589228Maybe, most talking heads are saying it's kinda shit. Which is weird, maybe they are trying to keep prices low for themselves

>>97589228This is a bad card. White has better options that simply keep their entire board alive. The only thing this has over all of this is it cost 2 mana and it gets around being made to sac your board and in syngerzes with ETB/LTBs.
>>97589268Nta but unlike regular white protection spells it also repeats ETB effects, i could see a lot of fucked up stuff happening with this.
>>97589279also lets a sacrifice deck just bring back 4 creatures to sac again.

I am angryANGRY ABOUT TURTLES
UB is fine. See pic related before any response.
>>97589228>>97589242There's cards that do better and are more versatile. I think most decks that are vulnerable to wraths are gonna want cards that just make everything indestructible like Boros Charm or Grand Crescendo or Rootborn Defenses rather than pull things out of the graveyard (partly because tokens can't be pulled back), and that's if they even want to run defenses and not just more options.I can see some decks that might want it as a combo piece, but for general usage I don't see the value. Even something like And They Shall Know No Fear is only $10 and that's with really limited quantities.

>>97589523Possibly. Seems like they're going deep for characters. Do we have the actual full set now or are we still getting previews?
I'm going full battlecruiser with a ramp commander for my next (budget) deck. I'm brewing the following ones:Ruby Gruul cascadeRivaz Rakdos Dragon tribalArixmethes Simic sea monsters tribalwhich one is the most fun/promising? table is fairly low power (goodstuff bracket 2 / dogshit bracket 3).I learned that people build ruby without any 1-3cmc spells, which sounds risky since early removal will set you back 2 whole turns, but once she gets going, she is a neverending stream of flashy creatures. Rivaz comes with better interaction and recursion, but the card draw feels meh on a budget. Arixmethes is a potential battlecruiser in the command zone, will probably be safer than Ruby but also slower.
I wish Lorwyn hadn't sucked.
>>97589482I'll send this in mtg Whatsapp groups and people will believe
>>97589573Arixmethes seems more fun imo because you can put this lil'guy in the deck

>>97589706Please. There are so many Arena cards that could be easily ported to paper and I can't fathom why they haven't yet.
>>97589782Those aren't going to dissuade anyone. You're just going to draw even more attention and focus from the table with those. Deservedly so.

Anyone have suggestions for a good UR(X?) big spells commander?I'm thinking about doing Ashling Rekindled, but I'm wondering if anyone else has any sauce for a commander she might be better in the 99 of.
>>97589782 see >>97589832There is absolutely nothing in the game that draws more attention then forcing people to sac/discard. Best case scenario the table goes into a temporary truce as people dig to find enchantment removal. Average case, you just made yourself the archenemy which is the exact opposite of what you are trying to use those cards for. Slamming either of those down on the table is going to paint a great big target on you.
>looking through spoilers to see if there's any cards I want>each turtle has like 4 goddamn alts>each alt has like 3 goddamn different art stylesUB aside this is one of the most visually annoying sets I can remember seeing. I'm actually getting pissed off trying to look through this shit.
>>97589907NTA, but I play Zurzoth. Making EVERYONE draw and randomly discard is annoying, but much softer than more direct hand attack. My opponents tend to be annoyed that I have them do it so much, but it doesn't draw much ire. There's definitely some nuance to what ticks players off and draws their attention to you. Vague, sliding scales of "how badly do I need to respond to this" and "how much does their deck make me feel like responding to it?"
>>97589832>>97589907No i know it draws aggro, but my point is that decks like Edgar are already the archenemy by default, at least in many of my matches here.Grave Pact is awesome because I have an endless supply of disposable tokens that can cost each player easily 5+ creatures + potentially a bunch of life if one of them chooses to swing at me, so it usually bought me at least a few turns of relative comfort that I otherwise wouldn't have had, when I used it in the past.Of course I could cut them but I struggle to think of any cards that would have a more outsized impact that I could replace them with.
>>97589923To add to this, Grave Pact at times also has a nice politics element where other players will be upset at each other for attacking me because they don't want their stuff to die.Of course it sometimes gets removed quickly, but when it sticks around for a while it's one of the best bulwarks in the game.
Does anyone have recommendations for interaction spells in UG? I need to readjust my new deck's ratio of creatures to noncreatures, and that means there's both room for and a need for some solid choices for removing and disabling threats.
>>97589700Is that Neil deGrasse Tyson
>>97589864Jeffery Epstein personally requested this set before his untimely death.
>>97589921Are you in on Devil tribal or do you mostly treat the Devil synergy as incidental? I'm trying to decide whether I should just include a few key Devils or go in on some subpar ones just to trigger more often.

I gotta admit it's an interesting design
>>97590157I was confused why it said destroy instead of the normal sacrifice until I read the activated ability but yeah this does seem interesting.
>>97590003I do devil tribal. Mine technically counts as a Bracket 1 deck, but it has enough threat from the devil token generation that it plays well in my group that mostly aims for Bracket 2s.
A thousand fetish based proxies were born
>>97590157Might be a bit too cute, but it's at least novel.
>>97589470Those are ugly, but they're reprints not even available to use in standard so easy to avoid or get alts for. TMNT is ugly, legal for the next 3 years AND mechanically unique.
>>97590305posted it again award
>>97590140The thing about Avatar is that the character alts are from different points in the series and reflected the growth of those characters. Stuffing two full sheets with the same characters for the main set and Jumpstart really made it feel like they were going overboard though, especially with Zuko. Exiled Prince, Seeking Honor, and Avatar Hunter are from the same point in the series. They didn't need all three of those. Exiled Prince, Conflicted, Firebending Master, and Fire Lord represent his character arcs well enough. There's fucking nothing in TMNT. It's an episodic baby property and the characters remain static because a toy from last year needs to be able to be sold to the kid watching the show for the first time this year.

>>97590494The sai/jitte thing is confusing to me. People say it was changed because woke but I don't really see how one is woker than the other. It seems to me like they just changed it to make it clear that MtG Turtles is its own alt universe like Rise or 2006 or whatever, but if that's the case why is this the only element that seems unique to Magic TMNT? Ape-ril being directly lifted from Rise, all the IDW mutants...
I feel really dumb for asking this, but can I get a rules clarification? With cards like Xolatoyac and Grolnok, where they have one ability that creates counters, then another, separate paragraph that refers to effects involving those counters, do the additional effects still function after these goofy amphibians leave the field?
>>97590535Not unless the effect is tied to counter creation (a la Obsidian Fireheart), but they'll be back "online" if those creatures return to the battlefield.

>>97591365I saw an article recently that Hasbro actually already has adjusted how hard they're going with UB. As attention-grabbing as the headlines about "best selling set ever!!!!" are, the actual growth for the company has apparently only been single-digit
>>97591422It seemed like WotC were trying to reduce the number of legendaries is all. I would have thought, specifically because of the retarded number in FF and Spiderman
>>97591434They are. There are numerous characters in the set that are generic but could have been legendary and they chose not to. Same in Spider-Man. >>97592342>yeah i can name 5: invincible, the boys, dc, marvel, and uh... the walking dead!lol only 5?that's peanuts compared to the JP industry and the emerging CN and KR industryand that's the most charitable view of your argument btw, don't get me started on how walking dead has no lasting impact (remember how no one was hyped when it was announced as the first SL?), that DC is just BATMAN, and marvel has completely jumped the shark and absolutely wasted their mcu momentum
>>97592342TWD already spent all of its cultural staying power. MCU doesn't count since A: They're movies, not comics, and B: It's ALSO not doing so hot right now.
>>97591756Omega or Gilgamesh when they do FF again
>>97592367Only weebs can name 5 anime series in the same time period with the same kind of cultural impact. And since I am also one, I can do it for you to speed this dumbass conversation along:>Jujutsu Kaisen>DanDaDan>Demon Slayer>Chainsaw Man>My Hero Academia>>97592365The MCU is a series of explicitly comic book movies, it absolutely counts and you are coping deeply about that. And point B doesn't even matter, even if it were to stop today, it would not undo all of the cultural sway that it had globally though. Things can be impactful while still being aged out of what is hip in the now
>>97592393I've got the post quotes flipped, make some fuckin lemonade with this you dweebs
>>97592393>it absolutely counts and you are coping deeply about thati'm not even denying the success the mcu had (how can you even waste something that you never got), in truth you're the one coping that the mcu didn't squander its momentum not because of hard to see future trends but because of woke dei bs (*cough* captain marvel)me believing that MSH will sell well has nothing to do with the fact that the western comics and western IP is being routinely beaten by manga and asian IP as a whole
>>97592411Again, this argument is dumb as hell. Things can have been very successful and very important and also have fallen off. But if we're going by raw sales Dav Pilkey is still mogging all of Asia. Which is why - in an attempt to steelman your own dumb argument - I have been staying away from sales figures and shit because cultural cachet is not necessarily the thing which sells the most.
>>97592430>But if we're going by raw sales Dav Pilkey is still mogging all of Asiado you really think dav pilkey fans are the same demo that will spend on cardboard? way to miss the whole pointthe question has always been "what demo wotc should collab with so that they can sell more cardboard" and you're not doing a good job advocating for wotc to collab with more western IPs
>>97592393you forgot freiren imo
Is it worth it to buy a copy of wasteland? How often do you run into strong lands to justify buying this card.
>>97592452Is that a stand?
>>97592478if it's not going to screw you over color wise, sure you can spend on wastelandjust a reminder that single target land destruction is not worth a card and has to be stapled to other effects to be truly worth italso the best land decks are in truth graveyard decks
>>97592448All the weebs already play the weeb card game, its Pokemon (or more rarely Yugioh and much much more rarely Weiss-Schwarz) and they're not that likely to pick up a new TCG even with the collab; Final Fantasy has mass appeal that a lot of animes really don't. And the animes with the largest mass appeal mostly all have their own TCGs which kinda obviates the need for a collab though a DBZ set would be among the fastest selling cards of all time I imagine.>>97592452yeah, probably replace demon slayer with it
Am I just fucked against this in mono red if someone plays it? A buddy has it and Blind Obedience in his usual enchantress deck and my Jaxis just cannot play through ether of them.
>>97592499final fantasy has its own card game but that didn't stop them from collaborating with mtgit should be telling to you that the only other mtg competitor in the physical space with plenty of western themes is flesh and blood, the TCG industry is rife with anime/anime adjacent IPs for a reaosn

new to tcgs, I find mtg actually interesting compared to pokemon or lorcana. Someone told me flesh & blood and riftbound are the best card games today , one piece also not bad but scalpers a ruining . Why is pokemon tcg so popular it feels mediocre compared to mtg or orthers. I also find retarted that pikachu ilustrator card sold for 16m and is not even playable in the game.

>>97592520Splash white for enchantment removal like Garfield intended
>>97592631Riftbound is LOL which is why it is the best
>>97592631>Why is pokemon tcg so popular it feels mediocrebecause it's got pikachus on it.>Someone told me flesh & blood and riftbound are the best card games todaynobody's played riftbound because of distribution problems. flesh and blood seems fine, but it's a different kind of setup than what most card games try to do.
>>97592631Pokemon TCG survives and is popular by virtue of Pokemon being a colossal monster of an IP, of which the TCG is unironically one of the least important aspects. When cards in the pokemon TCG get expensive, it's because they're collector's items first and game pieces like, fifth. In magic, the "Game piece" apsect matters a LOT more for the prices of things, though it has waned a bit in recent years. And you also have to remember, MtG was the original TCG. To the point that WotC used to actually literally own the concept of a "Trading card game" and received royalties from literally all their competition as a result. If Magic's basic mechanical systems and gameplay loop weren't sound, then TCGs as a concept likely would've died out in the mid-late 90's.
>>97592690We ride sheldon's dead dick here nigga
>>97592631Magics most popular format is commander which is the casual play basically 99.99% of the cards in the game and do whatever you want. It's also the most whiny format because it's considered the kitty pool and where retired tournament winners or wannabe tournament winners go to die. Pokemon is so mind boggling boring that nobody plays it in paper it's just a scalpers heaven and collectors beanie baby bubble bullshit. Flesh and blood is alright but basically non existent in all the LGS I've been too. One piece is fun but if you're not an anime fan or a part of that community you'll be turned off by the player base. Riftbound literally just came out so idk anything about it and lorcana is for Disney adults and their children and had a lot of mechanics used from magic the gathering. Magic is in a weird spot right now because it's becoming bigger from universes beyond pulling in new players and veteran players having meltdowns because SpongeBob killed their commander so some people claim it's gonna die some think it's just gonna be a different card game it's a mess in the magic community.TLDR Magic in my opinion is the best for fun, everything else is better if you want competitive play and tournaments without spending 5 grand
>>97592718that's right brother rhystic study is the spirit of the format and should be in every pod
>>97592730I still need to build Sheldor some day
>>97592631>Why is pokemon tcg so popular it feels mediocre compared to mtg or orthers.Pokemon is less of a game and more of a collector's item that is heavily bought by scalpers/investors. Pokemon's gameplay is legit awful and easily the worst of the big 3 tcgs. Riftbound is actually pretty good, if Magic died that's probably where I would migrate to.

>>97592631Find out what your local shop plays the most and play that. 95% chance that's Commander in which case I'd suggest looking through the card pool and finding a commander that looks interesting aesthetically and getting some help building it. You can play the Magic Arena tutorial for the basic rules of how phases and activations work. If you have any franchises you like that have a UB set that can help you narrow down some aesthetics for a starter commander. You can also just pick up a precon that looks cool to you, but I'd suggest getting some help fixing it up to not be so messy. If your LGS plays Edison format Yugioh I'd try that too. >>97595301The mana base is pretty shit, it has all 3 bounce lands and basically just tapped lands so you're bouncing tap lands to play a tapped land some times. She needs to be putting -1/-1s on herself to draw but it feels like there isn't enough ways out of the box to do that reliably
>>97595323Sorry, not herself, your board in general.
>>97595323I see. Well a bad manabase is way more fixable than the theme itself being bad. The Blight support in Eclipsed proper will probably go a long way toward upgrading it as well.

Had a newer guy drop a polluted delta in a bant deck last night (Pantlaza but it doesn't matter). We had to explain to him that it was technically legal in the deck even though it was useless. We let him play it as a different fetch but the whole exchange was just very funny that he bought a $20 land without even reading what it did.
