The most satisfying games are the ones where you have like 10 seconds left on the clock to checkmate him after successfully promoting your pawn, and he is desperately dancing around the board trying to time you out just before you get him

Reviewed a game I won earlier and realised I missed a chance to deliver checkmate with an en passant capture. I saw the move, but I thought it was just a check, not mate, so I promoted a pawn to a queen instead for an easy win. Would've been my first ever en passant checkmate too...

What are some really bizarre openings I can play that will baffle new players? They don't have to be good or even help me towards an endgame, I'm just messing around. I don't want to study the usual sicilian, whatever, blah blah blah, and I had a little fun just playing instinctually and specifically trying to throw other players off on chess.comUsually I hang my pieces and lose anyways, sometimes I win on time because they're so busy trying to figure out what I'm doing while I timecuck them with random bullshit "on instinct"Basically I am not going to seriously invest in chess and am just treating it as a casual pastime a few minutes a day, but I'm willing to learn 1 or 2 bizarre openings or gambits to force other new players into a deeper understanding of the game that I myself have no ambition to reachSo anything fun/obscure but simple enough that I can theoretically learn it without actually learning the fundamentals first?

Has anyone tried some chess learning apps? If you did, which would you recommend? I recently got into Chess through Duolingo (yes, you may laugh, it's funny to me too), which was good for me but I'm a total noob. Once I finished that I tried Lotus Chess which is all about memorizing openings; as I understand it all the very high level players memorize openings but it just isn't working for me: I can never remember them once the variations come in. What else is out there?
