If you just go with raw contrast, it's going to be pretty dull, if you dilute that contrast down to the level of a recess wash, you'll get a good stain out of it still, and still get good reflections. For terrain, there are lots of options, but I chose to go with a mix of stuff I got cheap and stuff I 3d printed. See pic, I was able to fit more than a full table of terrain into the two tubs shown while packing my army and terrain to road trip to play with friends. Part of the reason it's possible to fit in those boxes is that several of the terrain pieces are 3d printed and magnetized so they can break down smaller.
