Imagine playing this SOCIAL activity alone.

lol. That's it, not even an lmao

>SOCIAL activity
On what basis?
What other people who just "follow the leader" say?
This activity is about having fun, and if it isn't fun with other people, then there's nothing wrong with playing alone.
Often times, a solo game is the only way to get a game, when the alternative is just people who only want to do improv theater or collaborative storytelling.
>>
What are your recommendations for a super hero rpg that is good for a first delve into solo play? I'd like a game that lets me make some not so serious powers while still being usefull.
The only game I have experience with is Das Schwarze Auge/The Black Eye, so something less simulationist would be appreciated.

There's a bunch of Supers RPGs on the lighter end. Prowlers & Paragons is a great standalone choice, but there's certainly others.

If you want something a bit crunchier, there's Mutants & Masterminds, or SWADE with the Super Powers Companion. Alternatively, there's Masks, which is a PBTA game in the vein of Teen Titans. It doesn't offer as much creative freedom, though.

Whatever system you pick, use the City of Crime supplement.

I know drive thru and itchio have solo rpgs. Where do you guys get yours from? Looking for new stores I might not know about.
>>
>>97638799
PDF share thread. Which isn't a good thing I think, too many options, trying to find the perfect system instead of playing
>>
>>97638803
Sometimes they're missing things. Also, I'm on the market for new stuff.
>>
>>97638799
>>97638936
Most creators just put their stuff on itch and drivethruRPG, and if they got any third space they are in those stores too. You might want to occasionally check out Fanatical/Humble Bundle book bundles and Bundle of Holding if they are having any solo or solo friendly e-book deals.
>>
trying to hone in on the system i want to run for an idea i had. the choices are HtV or SWADE w the horror companion and East Texas University. what system supports best the fantasy of being a dude stumbling into the supernatural and being forced to fight to survive, eventually becoming strong overtime through mundane tools, magic trinkets, and gained power.

I'm conflicted with HtV for its deep focus on the social aspect in ttrpg and the severely punishing nature of combat.
>>
>>97638998
forgot to add: feel free to recommend other systems
>>
>>97638799
recently found solorpglist.com

my approach is to pirate first to check if the book isn't crap (google and scribd, pdfcoffee, anyflip), if it's going to stick with me, then eventually get the paid copy to support the author (and have it neatly organized in itch or drivethrough library). but honestly, stop chasing the perfect system, and just play the goddamn things you already have.
>>
>>97639069
The perfect solo game must be assembled yourself from the mutilated corpses of other people's games.
>>
>>97639079
absolutely and entirely true. if your solo setup doesn't look like a serial killer's scrapbook of butchered pdfs, you're doing it wrong.

Are the tribe/village/kingdom leading Quests based on some published game, or all QM homebrews? I kinda wanna play something like that.

Look up Sigil & Shadow. I think it occupies a good middle ground somewhere between occult horror and Buffy-esque action.
It has a third party solo supplement.

I'm curious, are there alternatives to Mythic GM emulator and oracles in general. Like a different method to play?
>>
>>97647294
I don't think there is an escape from oracles of some sort, but tarot based ones instead of dice based are rather popular.
>>
>>97647294
prompt driven journaling (thousand year old vampire), freeform journaling (de profundis), gamebooks (fighting fantasy), crawlers (four against darkness), pbta-likes (ironsworn, technically has oracles, but actions have pre-set consequences). or you could vibe it all out, Carl Jung's active imagination Red Book style.

Also, for some reason ChatGPT decided one of the heroes is Haze from Anonymous Agony.
Glad to see he's still getting work in the industry I suppose.

stupid thread
just play a video game
>>
>>97655920
Retarded post.
There is no video game that can be changed or made as easily as a solo TTRPG.
>>
prep is play
reading retroclones you'll never run is play
binge watching 700 episodes of anime to seed your creativity is play
spending six hours picking the font for a character sheet is play
getting fired from IRL job because you spend company time theorycrafting is play
dying of old age having never actually rolled a single physical die is play, because the slow decay of your mortal vessel is just ultra-immersive OSR mechanics

it's all play, bros
>>
What is the consensus on Tales of Argosa as a solo game? Does the lone wolf mode stand toe-to-toe with Scarlet Heroes?
>>
>>97656606
Tabletop Simulator, maybe.
>>
Any games where you roll dice?
>>
>>97660139
Nope, we only use tarot decks or spin air fresheners here
>>
>>97660139
Tunnels & Trolls with multiple PCs and zero convenience rules for encounters.
>>
Hexcrawls sound fun but I've never played one. I remember a cowboy hex crawl someone posted, that was cool.
>>
>>97659866
You can add anything you want to it without knowing how to design assets?
>>
>>97666076
You don't really design things in TS. You import images and PDFs.
>>
>>97668391
nta I wish TS's text fields and buttons weren't completely asinine to work with
it takes a lot of fiddling to create and interactable sheet that doesn't look like total disasters
>oops! turns out this one particular button was floating a full inch above the slab of image you were converting into an interactable sheet , gotta start over again
>>
>>97665058
>I remember a cowboy hex crawl someone posted
That would probably be The Drifter.
>>
>>97657872
man alone reviewed it. i personally like the mechanic where you roll the 1d6 oracle die when you get damaged and depending on the result you counterattack or you dodge it, although i haven't tested it in a game.
>>
>>97670201
Yup that was the one. I'm trying to figure out what other popular hex crawlers there are. There doesn't seem to be one big game that everyone flocks to.
>>
>>97672786
Barbarian prince was the big one in solo circles, but it's quite old now.
>>
>>97673875
What happens in a BP game? I imagine it's just fighting.
>>
>>97674893
You lack imagination.
>>
>>97668391
Oh, cool, so there really is no video game that can be changed or made as easily as a solo TTRPG, like I said before.
>>
>>97672786
Kal-Arath is a good and simple one.
>>
>>97674893
Or getting lost trying to travel through hexes
>>
>>97675322
You design shit outside the game and import it. That's what I meant.
>>
>>97675258
Yes, look at where we are.
>>
>>97674893
There's actually far more ration collecting than fighting
>>
>>97678087
Makes sense, dudes got to eat.
>>97675595
Is the book all black and white?
>>
>>97678925
The core rules and lords of the pit are black and white. Twin sun sutra is color
>>
>>97679288
>Twin sun sutra
I would personally recommend getting this right at the start, the optional pulp character rules in it significantly improve playing with a single character.
>>
>>97678008
Touché... turtle.
BP is good though. Old, but better than The Drifter (new cowboy hexcrawl). The Drifter is just random shit and you have almost no control on how your PC faces these things. BP gives you more control over your big guy and what he does.
>>
>>97676808
That doesn't make it easier to make or alter than a solo TTRPG.
