>removing all incentive for players to fight each other
>free units
so why even play a fucking skirmish game at this point? If someone wants a tabletop coop they can pick Gloomhaven
>>
>>97644018
game can be fun but yea it's a bit weird for sure for regular slap 'em up style gamers
>>
coop miniature skirmish game souinds kinda cool though, that's basically what war was from 400-900 ad
>>
>>97644018
Just buy the minis and play Mordheim with them like everyone else. Has anyone ever actually used the rules?
>>
>>97644018
>removing all incentive for players to fight each other

You've never played the game.

Why make a thread about a game you don't understand? Do you think everyone else here knows as little as you do? Are you just retarded?
>>
>>97648372
Lots of people play Frostgrave, it's up pretty high in the realm of wargames that aren't 40k. It helps that it's meant to use D&D minis so anyone with a collection of those has a head start.
>>
The Joseph McCullough hate is literally from paid GW shills
>>
>>97648944
It’s not that complicated. Nogames thrive on (You)s. They find what’s popular to insult it, and thus gain the (You)s they want. They literally do it for free, because they don’t have anything else going on to provide them that tiny dopamine hit a reply generates. That’s it. That’s all.
>>
>>97644018
Honestly I'm more incensed this shitty bare bones system got as popular as it did than the continued focus on coop.
>>
>>97648944
That retard couldn't design his way out of a paper bag. Every game he makes is just bland and samey, its actually kinda impressive. Shit like frostgrave has the exact opposite problem of GW games. Instead of corpo fagortry and monitizing everything its "designed" to be as simple as possible so it can be marketed to all the "hobbyist" who don't actually play games but like the idea of maybe playing one someday. The kind of people who will buy a box and post about it online and gush over the system and how good it is but never actually get their models to table. Its unwarranted success has seen more indie designs try and copy this coffee table pamphlet approach to the detriment of the /awg/ scene. Due to this I fucking despise not only the game but the faggots that play it. The sooner secondaries are cleansed from this hobby the sooner we can go back to the golden age of rules designed by people who play games first and "hobby" second.
>>
>>97649185
How are people playing a skirmish game with a campaign structure secondaries?
>>
>>97649262
Secondary is a buzzword insult to nogames.
>>
Honestly how is the frostgrave/stargrave system if you wanted to play a game night? Seems like a good way to use a mish mash of models and keep stuff running smooth
>>
>>97649185
Only nogames secondaries seethe about games they don't like or play.
>>97649321
I don't know about stargrave but frostgrave is fun enough if a bit swingy because of the d20 system. If you want a simple game that can be taught to anyone in under 20 mins and ran in under 40 with an average game time of about an hour it's a solid choice. I personally use a mishmash of models including old mageknight click base models for monsters.
>>
it's a shit tranny game
>>
>>97649826
We're not discussing 40k or AoS though.
>>
>>97651827
Not that you'd know anything about either, TOW secondary.
>>
looks nice

Co-op Frostgrave is actually pretty fun if you've got a friend (which I doubt OP does but still, we're talking hypotheticals here). Generate half a warband each (I wizard and 4 goons, a bit stronger than a solo warband but its fine). Up the random encounter spawn rate, populate the board with some patrolling mobs, randomize where the treasure spawns and try to get all the loot and escape the board before you're overwhelmed.

Throw in the mortal enemies stuff, make a map, create some stories, its peak wargaming.

Its less intensive than say the 5 Leagues/Parsecs games so its great for nogames friends/spouses/kids to jump in AND lts less structured in its scenario requirements than Rangers of Shadowdeep, so its great for someone like me recycling a bunch of old minis and terrain from other games.

50% agree 50% disagree

Osprey and JMC in particular seem to hoover up things that already existed under other imprints. I really like Silver Bayonet and Rangers of Shadowdeep but I found that they are still pretty swingy and like you say, plain. I think we get rinsed a bit hard on V2s, various supplements and so on.

But look at the corresponding minis, very useful and versatile but deliberately generic. As in, almost certainly the high fibre brown bread antidote to very lore domimated settings like Warhammer.

I prefer Ganesha Games for that sort of thing. Couple of stats, a number of weapons and traits, a few ranges, no odd dice.

Toofatlardies I heard was very big brained but they are very stop and start. I prefer Wiley Games for card driven activation.

Amidst the pressure to deliver some kind of cycle of products, he at least writes things intended to make use of your mini collection.

>Its less intensive than say the 5 Leagues/Parsecs

Nah not really, they just have the wherewithal to give it to you in one book. Osprey is the Aldi of this sort of thing, inexpensive decent introduction, the odd banger, mostly brown rice.

Reminder that the hobbyist is the purest form of wargamer, and true wargaming is 80-90% hobbying with the remainder actually playing games.
Without the hobby aspect you're literally just playing a boardgame

every time
>>
>>97648372
I've played it, it's pretty fun.
But we always play versus rather than trying to "win"
>>
>>97670096
He's right though.
Half the reason Warmachine was so fucking gay is because it was hyper competitive and put the Hobby stuff to the backburner.
Its also why modern GW is so fucking gay too.

If your army isnt fully painted you're nigger tier.
>>
>>97665705
If that's true why not just build scale models? They are usually far cheaper and have finer details when compared to "wargaming models" of comparable size. If building and painting is the best part of the hobby for you why not just do that and drop all pretense of using them in an actual game?
>>
>>97677270
What if I prefer fantasy to military history?
Also, the finer details aren't exactly a universal feature, even if there are some really good historicals.
>>
>>97648944
>hate is literally from paid GW shills
He was a cunt to my brother, so I hate him and pirate his games.
>>
>>97677270
I do occasionally, but I also enjoy the 10-20% that is getting round a table of nice terrain with the lads and having our fully painted forces fight each other
>>97677999
lol what did he do?
>>
>>97648487
He's not entirely wrong.
i think the local group in my area had an expectation that nobody fought each other and just collected treasure and if you did try and fight you were an asshole.
more of a mordhiemer though i was thinking of joining the next long term campaign.
>>
>>97682632
So more retards share the same level of knowledge on a game an anonymous retard has. Amazing.
>>
>>97682659
look anon, i don't dislike your game, i am considering playing it but I mean i'm looking at the rule book and i don't see an incentive system like say Mordhiem or Battle company has.
like BC has to have a winner and loser to close an encounter.
Mordhiem is until someone has lost 33% of their forces.
FC is until all treasure is off the board or someone is tabled.
Most Models carrying treasure are worse fighters and slower so you need to protect them.
Regarding EXP, you can get a trickle for casting spells and pulling treasures. models other than your wizard doesn't track EXP so it doesn't look like you have an incentive for anything but wizard battles because mookfights do not matter.

I understand there's a lot of books and gaps in my knowledge it could also be homebrew in my region, but, what's stopping people from doing this?
