If you dont digest them theyre forever weaker than they should be, and digesting them through acting brings you closer to the being who granted the boon. GOOs and gods and whatnot dont grant boons out of the kindness in their hearts, they usually grant boons to make pawns. So either you accept that your powers will be far weaker than same sequence peers with no hope of advancement or you allow yourself to get altered. Immediately getting a sequence 6 boon for example, assuming you survive it, will always make you much weaker than someone in the same pathway who went sequentially from sequence 9 to sequence 6 through boons, acting all the way.
