Are you ready to roleplay killing some nazis, /tg/?
>>
The premise fits a war game more than a character driven TTRPG. Like playing WWII troop war games is the proper genre.
>>
>>97665843
Not really, the Wolfenstein games are always about a small group of resistance fighters.
>>
>>97665843
Wolfenstein is about supertrooper man single handedly killing endless mooks
>>
>>97665838
Most people would probably prefer to play as the nazis in that universe.
>>
>more licensed shovelware from Modiphius
>>
Can we maybe get some miniatures of the nazi and their mechs?
>>
>>97665923
Match made in heaven with Bethesda.
>>
>>97665838
Already do.
I don't need a corporate product to do what I want in an activity celebrated for its vast modularity.
>>
>>97665838
Lancer already exists, and that game has giant mechs in it too.
>>
>>97665947
Toddshit did not have the good graces to remain stuck in vidya. It had to infect tabletop as well.
>>
>>97665975
Now that you said it, Modiphius's Fallout RPG indeed is literally a faithful tabletop adaptation of toddslop.
>>
>>97665838
>trillions of rpgs set in ww2 already exist
Beyond naked capitalism, why bother?
>>
>>97666034
Modiphius's entire business model is crapping out licensed slop based on any IP they can get their hands on. Almost all of which are just the RPG equivalent of all of those licensed versions of Clue or Monopoly where it's the exact same game in bunch of different costumes.

Wolfenstein is set in an alternate pulp future where Germany won WW2 and rules America.
>>
>>97666069
So’re about half the games that bring up wwii as a backdrop.
>>
>>97666104
What other alt-history ww2 ttrpgs are there?
>>
>>97665838
Been doing that for years, does this game offer anything else?
>>
>>97666106
It provides a blonde double-braided wig and nazi cap for your DM to wear while he sucks you off for killing mecha-hitler
>>
>>97666105
Achtung Cthulhu, for one. The Day After Ragnarok too. Tons of time travel games, GURPS Infinite Worlds outright gives all the timelines where Germany won their own designation from how many there are.

That and it’s really easy to take any rpg at in wwii and just skip ahead to a theoretical scenario where Nazi Germany triumphed to give the players the players room to topple them.
>>
>>97666151
>Achtung Cthulhu
Supernatural game
>The Day After Ragnarok
Post-apocalyptic game
>GURPS
That's a given

The Wolfenstein game seems to still have a niche here, sure it's easy to modify an existing WW2 system but also it never hurts to have options.
>>
>>97665838
>killing some nazis
lol I got the board game for the plastic nazis to use in various scifi skirmish wargames.
>>
>>97666161
Isn’t Wolfenstein the series that out Hitler into an mech suit and told you to shoot him with a rocket launcher to take back the Spear of Destiny? I think it’s a little late to be dismissing anything “supernatural”, and there are a shitton of games leaning on the weird occultism obsession of the nazi higher ups like Cold City, in addition to just giving them better equipment like Gear Krieg.
>>
>>97666212
This game is based on the nu-Wolfenstein games published by Bethesda, and as far as I know they are just pure scifi without real fantasy elements except for occasional "magic was actually science".
>>
>>97666212
It has some supernatural elements, but you aren't fighting a panther with spooky tentacles growing out of it like in Achtung Cthulu
>>
>>97666239
>>97666240
So nothing that isn’t already out there then? Gotcha. I’m not really opposed to a game about fighting Nazis, mind, I just find trying to use Wolfenstein to do it awkward since I just know it as the precursor to doom with Hitler in a mech suit, so it’d feels way too late to be trying to cash in on that. Especially since Reich Star and Rocket Age already jam sci-fi into the nazi-killing genre already.
>>
>>97666271
When was the last time you ever played Reich Star?
>>
>>97666347
Years ago. I admittedly go through phases where I try out RPGs my friends haven’t heard of for a couple sessions until scheduling conflicts make continuing more trouble than it’s worth.

Its from over 2 decades ago anon.
People are allowed to make variations on themes. Its okay, nothing bad will happen if there are more than half a dozen weird ww2 style games.

Can we get something new instead of regurgitating stuff from the last 40 years? Don't get me wrong, i grow up with wolfenstain, shadow warrior, doom, duke nuken, blood, etc... but i'm beyond the point of even being bothered by the nth product about "le cool ip your childhood!", besides the point i don't need some editor laying down a game this trivial in my stead.
>>
>>97666430
Anti-Nazi sentiment has never been so controversial, just look at all the seethe in this thread.
>>
>>97665838
this is like having a Doom rpg, the game is about you being a single badass killing hordes of enemies in the most brutal way...that doesnt make for a good ttrpg
>>
>>97666435
star wars is an ip a lot of retards REALLY like, so I can easily imagine a bunch of early 40s guys actually playing the rpgs and wargames associated with it. These second tier IPs like dark souls, or wolfenstien, or shit like this though, I can only imagine some faggot who identifies as a "nerd" buying it because he recognizies the cool epic ip he likes and not even attempting to actually run it, not that he would have the charisma to convince people to try it.
>>
>>97666439
No seethe, just seems a bit out of vogue. I know Eat the Reich and Sigmata are more recent, but they’re also explicitly much more preachy than the average ttrpg game where WWII is the backdrop for heroism and pulp action.
>>
>>97666161
isn't wolfenstein a supernatural game too?
>>
>>97666415
Modiphius likes making licensed shit to sell their system, otherwise people would ignore it for DnD.

The system is good though and they actually try to make it fit the theme.
>>
>>97666438
there are independent rpgs getting made that see some success, but slop like this HAS to have an IP. No one is going to buy generic rpg 93 unless it has a brand name that they remember from before their first gout episode on the cover.
>>

Such a shame the GM can’t decide how much of the supernatural the table is going to directly interact with then.
>>
>>97666579
The GM partially makes that choice when they pick the system, which Wolfenstein offers. It would be a fag thing to run an Achtung Cthulu game and not include anything supernatural
>>
>>97666591
>Wolfenstein
>Mecha Hitler
>The Spear of Destiny
Frankly, might as well be.
>>
>>97666470
So you're saying that you don't give a shit about the ip for nostalgia value but you're propping it up for some fake and gay metaphor of current year idpol?

>>97666462
Doesn't negate my point, i think there's a general inertia about these products that's getting more and more fatiguing imo.
>>

>>97666623
You keep saying that as if it actually means anything. Even then, Actung Cthulhu has an entire enemy faction of Nazis that focuses on the “unnatural to the time period” super technology aspect, so I’m still not seeing any difference eyo d not specifically having the name Wolfenstein plastered to the book cover.

Company that made Achtung Cthulhu 2d20 wants to sell Wolfenstein, also on 2d20?

>>
>>97666724
People who want to fight Nazis in an alt history they won without Cthulu stuff
>>

>>
>>97666767

>>
>>97666785
That is an incredibly weird assumption to make, anon. Are you okay? Did you take your meds? You’re the one acting like the Cthulhu elements are somehow an impediment, after all.
>>
>>97666791
The Cthulu elements and a matter of aesthetic taste. Also
>Just homebrew it bro!
Is the standard dnd player go-to, they don't believe in other ttrpg systems because rules can be modified at whim anyway.
>>
>>97666802
I doubt you’ve played games, cause people have been modifying games to play in their specific settings for ages. You should see all the threads asking if the Modiphius Fallout game is the only way to play Fallout in tabletop format, no matter how many times people point out Fallout Gurps exists or options like MYE or Twilight 2000 are also available if they don’t want to go with the “official” version for mechanical reasons.
>>

>>
>>97666862
...yes? Sure, you can argue that's not an ip recycling specific issue but to me it seems a direct consequence of the consoom culture, not something vaguely related.
>>
>>97666785
Nta, but that's literally what we are doing. The setting and especially the lore is shit-tier, but the rules are fine and it works as just slightly quirky WW2 pulp. No point being forced to follow a retarded setting that kills all the fun out of the game.
But you would have to play games (plural) to know this.

>Are you ready to roleplay killing some nazis, /tg/?
In the Machine Games Wolfenstein universe?
Not really.
I thought Bethesda has shoveled the Machine Games Wolfenstein reboot but it seems they're trying to milk it before that by appealing to the TTRPG market.

The gameplay was excellent for the first three (if you include Old blood) so the story was all that could be criticized.
And the second game's story was bad. Like last minute changes because of the 2016 election related events at the time that scared the devs into making last minute changes to spite their bigot boogeymen. Made it inconsistent.

Hitler should have been a sinister boss fight for the player to defeat instead of a senile old man caricature,
All criticism was deflected as being from bigots. I don't know why actual Neo Nazis would play that game since it is killing their idols, but it worked in deflecting the criticism. I think.

Then The Young Blood game with the twins came out showing that the story writing quality went lower than dinosaur bones and the gameplay was awful.

That Modphius Wolfenstein TTRPG is just a sad example of Bethesda trying to search the ruins of the MG Wolfenstein story for any crumb of profit to be made now.

It's embarrassing how your culture war bullshit tries to virtue signal against killing Nazis. A shitty, subpar system is going to be released and forgotten about a month later, and you want people to cry about it.
>>
>>97665843
(world) war is a good place for stories of individual heroism or shenanigans of small scale guerilla groups - think The Dirty Dozen or Inglorious Basterds, obviously 12 people is tad too many for ttrpg logistics, but similar style of action with say half a dozen player is perfectly feasible. Down to that one chucklefuck who slips up and fucks things up for everyone else.

>>
>>97666785
Isn't that just what they're publishing though? They take their existing 2d20 system about fighting nazis, scrub out the supernatural bits, slap Wolfenstein on it, and then sell it to you as if you were too dumb to to that yourself.
>>
>>97667051
Savage Worlds has Day After Ragnarok, which is an excellent venue for Nazi Killin'.
>>
>>97665838
Not in a Modiphius game, GURPS would be fine for this
>>
>>97667798
Yeah 'bad russian' is played out, but a similar world domination scenario with communists would be cool. Western and Eastern Marxists with resistance movements trying to operate in the middle.

Stalinists vs trotskyites and "new left" foucaltists on a world scale while nationalists are caught in the crossfire.

Though I guess quite a few would argue that's just the late 20th century.

>>97667935
If the product releases and it is 1::1 with Achtung Cthulu with the supernatural bits toned down then you're right, but that's more speculation. Even still it will be a setting book with tools to run within Wolfenstein.
>>
>>97668564
Let’s say it is just Actung Cthulhu with the supernatural bits removed. That’s them basically telling you to pay for the same game they already made, just with “Wolfenstein” slapped onto the cover. That’s why it seems incredulous that you’re insistent that it’s somehow filling a niche that didn’t already exist when there’s one that’s like 90% of the way there.

There's a Swords & Wizardry-based WW2 book, Operation Whitebox, which has its own supplement: Galaxy War 1939, a pulp space-opera setting. Just WW2 Recycled In Space. Really, it's WW2 in space.

Honorable mention to Dust 1947, it's a wargame. Never was one for wargames

Honestly, I just try to steer clear from WW2 media, fictional or otherwise. Popular depictions mostly satanize Germany or give highly distorted accounts from (((cited sources))) and just obnoxious in general.

Yeah, the United States went to war with Germany to "fight tyranny". Sure.
No, Hitler did NOT revitalize a battered Germany and was angry at (((them))) just because. Forget the COMMUNIST REVOLUTION & DECEITFUL SOCIETAL CONTROL, no! Everyone has always loved our (((friends))) & he was a hateful, closet gay Rothschild who did cocaine, while simultaneously PIONEERING THE FIGHT AGAINST THE DANGERS OF TOBACCO (never mention the Madagascar Plan, it's "propaganda").

I try not to lose my temper over these things, blind ire's not exactly Christian, but these (((historical facts))) always get me right fuming.

Good thing I've taken a liking to Gunpowder Age-Napoleonic history instead, or just pre-industrial / agrarian society in general. Saves me the headache (the American Civil War still tickles my fancy, though never with quite the same pull as the Terror or the Conquistadors ever had). Still have the occasional thirst for the 1900s (I could never hate WW1). If I DO dabble in WW2, I mostly focus on Mussolini's Rome (have taken a recent preference for Il Duce & Classical Fascism) or whatever Imperial Japan was doing.

Honestly, I filter people who complain about "Nazis" from my table. One, because half the time their conception of "Nazism" includes rather innocuous things like knowing wh at a woman is. Two, because being an actual "Nazi" is morally superior to supporting White genocide or DEI/AA garbage.

I play a lot of TTRPGs, but primarily online. If I see pronouns, complaints about "racism" or the like, I show you the door. If I'm not in charge, I leave of my own accord.

This filter has allowed me to find a great milieu

My point was more that there's a deficit of wacky evil communists in the same way there are for fascists.
>>
>>97666439
I mean the premise of them being some type of heinous evil is sort of undermined when the people they were spending most of their effort to kill turned out to be just as morally bankrupt and have no reservations using their methods on unrelated third parties for the sake of imperialist conquests.

We already had this discussion in /gurpsgen/, personally i think these stats to be shit. Wolfenstein has had
>undead
>cyborgs
>occult mysticism
>the spear of destiny
Since the second game, and it has had
>supertech
>demons and giants
>evil spirits
Since the fully 3-D titles. Arguably mechahitler was supertech but it was JUST Hitler who had that, it was the later games which added Tesla tech and giant supertech creatures and weapons. The most recent games also added
>secret Jewish societies which invented hypertech
And also giant fucking huge super robots, but I feel like if the tech could have handled it they would have done it earlier. So I’m not sure. I’m pretty sure Achtung Cthulu could just be any part of Return to Castle Wolfenstein except the first level and the airfield level. Oh and the one where you have to get into the city proper I think.

I will never understand the flak Adolf gets for his art.
I've always found it to be perfectly adequate. Beautiful, even.
Even more egregious, his application to art school was turned down, while post-modernist works, more akin to Jackson Pollock than traditional fine arts, was embraced with flying colors. Really brings the administrative probity of the faculty's admittance commitee into question more than any real testament to the artistic capabilities of the man himself.

Side note, Churchill once wrote a meta alternate history for a short story collection (an extrapolation of a Union victory at Gettysburg as told from the perspective of a Confederate victory reality).
Whatever qualms I may have with the man, I really liked it. He should've been a writer more than a statesman, honestly.

Always down to play a game where I fight and kill nazis. Though wouldn't mind some sort of game where it's the cold war and we're killing commies too.

The original Wolfenstein 3d was one man fighting through hallways of nazis and killing mecha-hitler. The Wolfenstein before that was nothing like any of the games that came after and was basically a very basic stealth game.

Their Star Trek Adventures game is incredibly well-thought-out and plays wonderfully. It is easily the best Star Trek ttrpg we've ever seen, and I've played them all. Its push/pull momentum system, episodic narrative structure, and reliance on hex-crawl-like random generation tables are exactly what Star Trek fans have always wanted.

You've obviously never played their games. This isn't licensed, generic slop. It's thoughtful, well-crafted, hella good ttrpgs that use a thoughtfully designed, well-tested, original system we haven't seen before.

It's specifically secret super jew super science. The reason for the camps was the Nazis torturing the super secret jew super science.

Every super science thing you see in Wolfenstein was something that jews hoarded and kept to themselves. Just stop and think about the implications there.
>>
>>97672982
So Jews are the new Atlantis?
>>
>>97673067
I guess. Except the jews've been around for thousands of years with their super secret super advanced super jew science. Humans could've colonized the solar system by 1945 but they literally didn't want the goyim to know.

Never understood why the Third Reich, of all things, would use to Jewish mad science to tie their shoes, much less win a World War.
Seems to me a hollow victory, fighting against Jewish control just for your entire society to be dependent on their technology.
If it had always been a non-issue, Deutsche Physik wouldn't have existed in the first place.
>>
>>97673164
Exactly, right? I think that's the point of it. I don't think the devs grasp the other implications - like jews literally have kept the rest of humanity backwards and ignorant - but hey, anything to make them nazis look bad, am I right?

painting was done with the works Hitler was making. It was trite, Passée. It'd be like if say, you showed up to rockstar and you said "my only game design experience is making DOOM Maps."

photography had come in and flipped the whole field of painting the other way around. Attempting to achieve 'realism' in painting was now a lost cause, no matter how long you spent painting a beautiful afternoon sunset cresting over the hills, no matter the effort you put in the shading and all, a Yankee with a camera could show up and say "cool, give me an hour and I'll have it done." and it was only getting easier and cheaper to do.

Painting had only one way to go: showcasing what no photograph could do, showing things that didn't exist or adding layers to the Art that simply couldn't otherwise be done. see: Impressionism amongst others.
>TLDR: Hitler was the dude that shows up with a pen and a calculator to an 'intro to Excel' class.

That's because communism is inherently boring. Fascism requires a force of personality to pull off, which leads to all sorts of quirky bullshit like Hitler's obsession with the occult or Mussolini being a fashionista and trying to reinvent Italian cuisine.

By contrast, all communism can do is tear down culture, destroy infrastructure, and generally drag everyone and everything into a bog of sludgy, gray sameness.

There's neither heroes nor villains to be found in communism, just NPC drones to be culled.
>>
>>97674189
>It'd be like if say, you showed up to rockstar and you said "my only game design experience is making DOOM Maps."
It was school, not a job application. Being able to paint realistic landscapes should be proof of the fundamentals at least, and the whole point of going to school would be to learn those newer styles and techniques.

If they were just rejecting anyone who had a portfolio of realism and accepting anyone with a portfolio of post-modernism while ignoring technical skill, then the metaphor breaks down even further.
>>
>>97679007
>It was school, not a job application.
It's not community college, even getting in meant you had to have potential to be one of the country's top artists
>>
>>97669900
Unfortunately Communism had a good 60 years to agitprop its way into mainstream culture as "Great idea, never executed properly" by pouring money into Hollywood.
Without that we'd probably get people memeing on Lysenkoism to the same degree we get people laughing at the NatSocs for "My ancestral race of hyperborian giants who ruled over Atlantis, which was sunk by the Jews BTW."
>>
>>97679696

Not necessarily. Even if that is truthful to some extent, that doesn't mean it cannot be done or an absolute.
.
Soviet aesthetics were very easily recognizable and gave them a unique flair as the default villain, given the influence of Cold War politics and its effect on pop culture at the time. Pulp magazines (when not some story involving Ghostapo) would feature lots of communists, be they Soviets, Viet Cong, even Cuban (I distinctly remember a pulp mag cover picturing a Cuban commando with a machete, about to decapitate a woman with a machete in the middle of some bog, the tagline illuminating an apparent cannibalistic tendency alongside the general disregard for life characteristic of communism).

C&C Red Alert had the USSR as the antagonist, but pulp science fiction made it all the more flavorful & fantastical.
Submersible robosquids, augmented dirigibles, Tesla coils, double-barreled tanks, psychic clones, etc.

In a similar vein, there's a setting book for the FATE system, Red Planet, where Mars is a planetary spacefaring quasi-communist state (rivaling both NATO as well as the Warsaw Pact) with a heavy Soviet propaganda aesthetic (one of the few setting books for FATE I do like, unlike the one with monster hunting as a satirical critique on the gig economy).

Really, you just have to know how you want it flavored if you want some salt.

That whole mindset is still plaguing modern art. Realism is no less impressive and beautiful now that we have cameras, and we have much better cameras than they did back then. Rich people are just mentally sick and can only find value in something poor people can’t afford, no matter how hideous and useless it is.
>>
>>97681369
The problem with Communism was never lack of communication technology. The problem with communism is that it's literally just a fancy justification for yet another fascist oligarchy, and as such suffers from all the related problems that brings.
